when compared to all other "shoegaze" bands these guys are well n truly not really "shoegaze" - too much rockin, too much riffin, too many change ups, and just too fuckin good.
- One of the first indications of the shoegaze sound, or any genre of music for that matter, are the instruments used and how they're used to create that sound. Typically, shoegaze used electric guitars with heavy distortion and chorus effects. Swervedriver's sound and style uses distortion, chorus, wah, volume pedal etc., at various intervals and measures within a song...combine several styles of guitar playing all weaved into a tapestry - They're sound is distinctly 'Swervedriver'.
@AsmodelSoljah They do shoegaze but this really isn't that. Compare to songs like Slowdive's Alison, The Chamleons UK's Perfume Garden or The Daysleepers' anything.
This is more grunge with shoegaze influence like Lush's Ladykiller is new wave punk with shoegaze influence.
going to see these guys in June. Sad that a lot of these bands from back in the day still use their headshots from 15 years ago. Time for an update dudes!
wow this was the best sound i had lesten after radiohead!!!! epic..i think we will drink from thislake for inspiration..tx so much for sharing it, and feel free to support our original music.
i never heard from this band till 3 minutes ago someone left a msg at our original music channel saying that we sound a bit like this guys..i said who the fu***** is Swervedriver???...well now i know and im already a big fan!!!
@bbuteo If you haven't heard of them, you should give Ned's Atomic Dustbin a listen. I heard of them around the same time I found Swervedriver - on Jerry Bryant TeleVision in the mid-90s. Just recently I heard Skin Yard for the first time and they're really neat too but not quite as good, for me, as Tad. Different sounds really...
Beautiful 90's ! We had everything ! Amazing rap music .. Madchester .. And the shoegazing / noisy-pop scene ... Swervedriver was definetely not the most famous famous band but will remain my heart's favorite !!!..
@eclipsespilce no their other albums made it over here, you just had to really REALLY search for them. Mezcal Head was another great album, better mixed than this one but didn't seem to have the same edge.
i love how back in the '90's all the bands didn't stare into the camera and care more about how they looked than how the music sounded. these guys are prime example. somehow, i never heard about swervedriver until today. yeah, i'm a loser. you don't have to tell me.
This song is the shit. I had Raise and Mezcalhead, and the other two were too hard for me to get until, uh, the internet came into prominence. It sucks that Swervedriver didn't make it big. They deserved to.
I loved this song to bits back in the days & played it back to back with Dinosaur Jr.'s 'Bug', but listening to it now I'm annoyed by the guy's American sounding vocals. Where was his road trip? From Swindon to Cirencester?
spuff. maybe you miss the idea of a concept album and the soundworld SW created with records like Raise . Look at Dire Straits , JAMC..... , and there are tons of U.S. bands that emulate a Brit vocal sound. Greenday etc ..... . I'm sure you folks have some long hi-ways over the pond where folks can pop in a tape ,drive and conjure "elsewhere" just like we do over here .
A 'tape'? Dude, are you by any chance wearing crushed velvet bell bottoms, popping 'ludes & listening to Boston's 'More than a Feeling' whilst knocking back a can of Schlitz?
haha , good one spuff.: ) unfortunately a decade too late for that bud, but tapes are fond childhood memory .maybe you meant 8tracks ,never had the pleasure.
saw SWD open for pumpkins in 94 and there was no way SP could follow them. SWD were amazing. Saw Adams new band a few weeks ago opening for The CHurch. Amazing show and his new album is a refreshing change to all the crap out there now.
The last band I ever staged dived to live, I landed head first and copped a graze down the side of my face, serves me right. I also jumped on stage after the gig and gave Adam a hug, something I'm quite embarrassed about 14 years later.
Still one of my all time favourite songs all these years later.
SOMF is one of my favourite songs of the 90s - during a great era for guitar music. Bring it back and get rid of these skinny fuckers passing off as bands these days.
