  • when compared to all other "shoegaze" bands these guys are well n truly not really "shoegaze" - too much rockin, too much riffin, too many change ups, and just too fuckin good.

  • I still love this band after all these years!!!!!!

  • - One of the first indications of the shoegaze sound, or any genre of music for that matter, are the instruments used and how they're used to create that sound. Typically, shoegaze used electric guitars with heavy distortion and chorus effects. Swervedriver's sound and style uses distortion, chorus, wah, volume pedal etc., at various intervals and measures within a song...combine several styles of guitar playing all weaved into a tapestry - They're sound is distinctly 'Swervedriver'.

  • Good old 90's x) no that I'm that old.. but I AM a 90's kid...

  • I have never actually HEARD Swervedriver prior to this. People think this ISN'T shoegaze?

    People are dumb.

  • @AsmodelSoljah They do shoegaze but this really isn't that. Compare to songs like Slowdive's Alison, The Chamleons UK's Perfume Garden or The Daysleepers' anything.

This is more grunge with shoegaze influence like Lush's Ladykiller is new wave punk with shoegaze influence.

  • I remember buying this when it came out :)

  • - People who consider SWD as shoe gaze just don't have a clue about music.

  • @ajarnfrankie I agree.

  • the 90s best kept secret

  • underrated...

  • @beo74

    OMG!! so fkn underrated....sfkn SICK!!!

  • going to see these guys in June. Sad that a lot of these bands from back in the day still use their headshots from 15 years ago. Time for an update dudes!

  • omg this the greatest song and awesomest band they inpired me heaps - and Rave Down also a classic, like lots of their songs

loved this song so much i neva learned it properly like all my best faves

i cant copy that i dont wanna i just wanna stand next to your fire

    peace

  • saw these live in early 90s, great band

  • vim por causa do D2

  • Not heard this for years! God this is STILL good! Thanks!

  • wow this was the best sound i had lesten after radiohead!!!! epic..i think we will drink from thislake for inspiration..tx so much for sharing it, and feel free to support our original music.

i never heard from this band till 3 minutes ago someone left a msg at our original music channel saying that we sound a bit like this guys..i said who the fu***** is Swervedriver???...well now i know and im already a big fan!!!

  • @bbuteo If you haven't heard of them, you should give Ned's Atomic Dustbin a listen. I heard of them around the same time I found Swervedriver - on Jerry Bryant TeleVision in the mid-90s. Just recently I heard Skin Yard for the first time and they're really neat too but not quite as good, for me, as Tad. Different sounds really...

    Thanks for Upload digtbk!

  • This song is the "Ace of Spades" of shoegaze!

  • 44k views, wtf? this is arguably the best indie/alt song from '91

  • Thx so much.

  • nirvana meets mbv

  • no no it's driving perfect song.great music it plays in the elevators at my work.

Always loved the swervies. Thanks fir the upload.

  • perfect driving song

  • @1967nj I would have died to see that.

  • seen them open for the pumpkins in early 90's blew my mind awesome show by both

  • This is fucking awesome. Nice mix of styles.

  • erm...is there a louder upload?

  • love this song!

  • This and another 12" EP by these guys. Last Vinyl disks I ever bought ...1990 and a lifetime ago whenever it was.

  • FEEL SO REAL

  • Gotta love 90's rock... Timeless.

  • One of the best guitar riffs of the time.

  • Beautiful 90's ! We had everything ! Amazing rap music .. Madchester .. And the shoegazing / noisy-pop scene ... Swervedriver was definetely not the most famous famous band but will remain my heart's favorite !!!..

  • Had this song in the headphones when skateboarding down the snake run at Paul Revere. That was a good day.

  • brilliant band

  • Still one of my favorite bands and always will be.

  • I got hold of a promo copy of Raise in...I think 1993. It's all that made it to the states. They got screwed. WE got screwed.

  • @eclipsespilce did in come with the bonus 7", with Surf Twang, etc, recorded in 4 track?

  • @eclipsespilce no their other albums made it over here, you just had to really REALLY search for them. Mezcal Head was another great album, better mixed than this one but didn't seem to have the same edge.

  • 4001 = plank hehe

  • Great song, great album

It's a real shame these guys don't get as much recognition as the other bands of the time

  • @777Lateralus They had the opportunity... they signed to Creation... I guess they've only got themselves to blame.

  • brilliant track!

  • Fucking awesome production by Pat Collier, played this to death, incinerated.

  • i love how back in the '90's all the bands didn't stare into the camera and care more about how they looked than how the music sounded. these guys are prime example. somehow, i never heard about swervedriver until today. yeah, i'm a loser. you don't have to tell me.

  • @theartofnotbeingseen At least found them. I was one of the lucky ones that discovered them almost 20 years ago.

  • This song is the shit. I had Raise and Mezcalhead, and the other two were too hard for me to get until, uh, the internet came into prominence. It sucks that Swervedriver didn't make it big. They deserved to.

  • I loved this song to bits back in the days & played it back to back with Dinosaur Jr.'s 'Bug', but listening to it now I'm annoyed by the guy's American sounding vocals. Where was his road trip? From Swindon to Cirencester?

  • nah, that's how they talk in wheatley. honest.

  • Most people sing with a Yank accent. It's hard not to sometimes. I mean, just imagine Tom Jones singing in a Welsh accent!

  • watch?v=5rNozUC1txA&NR=1

spuff. maybe you miss the idea of a concept album and the soundworld SW created with records like Raise . Look at Dire Straits , JAMC..... , and there are tons of U.S. bands that emulate a Brit vocal sound. Greenday etc ..... . I'm sure you folks have some long hi-ways over the pond where folks can pop in a tape ,drive and conjure "elsewhere" just like we do over here .

  • A 'tape'? Dude, are you by any chance wearing crushed velvet bell bottoms, popping 'ludes & listening to Boston's 'More than a Feeling' whilst knocking back a can of Schlitz?

  • haha , good one spuff.: ) unfortunately a decade too late for that bud, but tapes are fond childhood memory .maybe you meant 8tracks ,never had the pleasure.

  • 8 tracks? Way too modern, back in the day I entertained myself by learning madrigals of the middle ages on a lute fashioned from a mastodon's skull.

  • @spuff =D . a documentary is in order .

  • Top 5 song of the 90's for me...along with Rearview Mirror, Unsung, Killing in the name of, Shit Towne.

  • well, i guess i am turning into my dad. because THESE WERE THE DAYZ!

  • Yes, these were the days! Swervedriver was one of my favourite bands here in France in the years 92-94. I'm 36 now...

  • the dreads are amazing

  • I'm still crazy for them

  • hello,good souvenir in my poor france,thanks,bye.

  • seen these guys in 92 and fuckin blew everyone away.3 ENCORES!!!!....they had it down with Raise but then kinda flaked out

  • Seriously? Mezcalhead was a great album.

  • how the fuck does this only have eleven thousand views

  • They don't look like the Jonas Brothers. That's why.

  • well most ppl are not aware of who they are other then the ones who listened to them in the 90's

  • saw SWD open for pumpkins in 94 and there was no way SP could follow them. SWD were amazing. Saw Adams new band a few weeks ago opening for The CHurch. Amazing show and his new album is a refreshing change to all the crap out there now.

  • The last band I ever staged dived to live, I landed head first and copped a graze down the side of my face, serves me right. I also jumped on stage after the gig and gave Adam a hug, something I'm quite embarrassed about 14 years later.

Still one of my all time favourite songs all these years later.

  • @blusennent dude! Never be embarrassed you hugged Adam.

    What a positively awesome thing.

  • love that riff

  • sdadsa

  • One of my biggest regrets .. that I never got to see them live in the early 90s. One of my greatest tracks ever.

  • Cloth ears

  • ohhh my g....oodness! I totally love this band.. now i am nostalgic....

  • not even 9k views, pity pity

  • I remember seeing this song on the itv chart show on the indie chart in late 1990. Its still a great song !!!

  • Cool. Sounds like classic alternative/punk from the 90s. Very STP/AIC/Goo Goo Dolls, cool progressions too. =)

  • Oh my. Bite your tongue. No mentioning of the Goo Goo Dolls and STP in the same breath as SWD. Ouch, that is just not right.

    Long live the Swervedriver!!!!!

  • Thanks for making that correction, mr. resplendent. Ouch, indeed!

  • no kidding...i would have accepted sonic youth or something like that...but swd sounds nothing like any of those bands.

  • Early Goo Goo Dolls sound like a 'Mats cover band. I'm not much of a fan, but it's certainly a lot different than their radio hits.

  • They should teach this in college.

  • yes dude they're should

  • I'll second that.

  • SOMF is one of my favourite songs of the 90s - during a great era for guitar music. Bring it back and get rid of these skinny fuckers passing off as bands these days.

Thank you digtbk for uploading this!

  • I'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks music was amazing in the 90s.

    Well said and thanks digtbk!

  • They never made a video for rave down? its a great song too

  • I did also upload the Rave Down video but unfortunately youtube deleted it for copyright violation.

  • @Oldretardo There is a vid for Rave Down. It's on You Tube somewhere I'm sure.

  • @Oldretardo

Of course they mae a video for Rave Down :)

    watch?v=wGDIGbPLQ4U

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I've loved this band for years and years, so glad they are back together and touring again.

  • Brillant song. Its been ages since I've seen the video for this song.

  • ahh the shoegaze days , great video of a true standout band , many thanx for the post ,.

  • great song...thanks for adding this...i remember this video from 120 minutes
