and scott mosier is a great producer. but aside from that Kevin Smith is a good director. maybe no at the beginning of his career but he has gotten much better, his movies are not the most visually stimulating but there very dialogue oriented and the dialogue, i feel, makes up for it.

Directing is not all about visual style. He's able to communicate his views to the actors effectively and draw out great performances. He has an eye for comedy as well as being a terrific writer. And in the types of movies he makes an over the top style would be intrusive at best. In the end the mark of a good director is his product and Smith is truly original and one of the best comic directors working today.
