  • i love lars von trier!!!!

  • @Foaje Have you watched Dear Wendy, a film written by Lars very similar to Dogville but about guns rather than the myth of the frontier town and liberal US values?

He shows how language in American is at it's roots Orwellian, with the acts of love and sex substituted in the use of deadly force. He also explores violence beautiful side, if acted out by those who represent a pure cause VS the same actions carried out those using of force for the elite classes are devoid of this beauty.

  • This, and The Hallelujah Chorus (Thanks Evangelion) are songs I can no longer listen to without freaking out a little bit.

  • End of the Movie: HOLY shit.

Start of these credits: Holy...What the fuck?

  • Lars Von Trier is very ignorant in how he views America as a horrible place an with the photos he represents. Von Trier has never been to America and is very wrong in sterotyping Americans as horrible human beings. As for the photographs, those were taken in harsh times of struggle and need. He must have forgot to show the photos of Americans helping each other out and prospering. If we went through photos from Denmark I am sure we could find stuff just as similiar to what was shown.

  • Lol, Lars trolled you guys so hard.

  • those credits are example of brilliant nihilistic trolling.

  • @mujdalsiucetkurva Ah, at last someone sharing my point of view! People tend to judge this movie as criticism of human beings and especially in the US, but the fact is, Lars von Trier doesn't care to give his opinion on anything that happens in Dogville. it's just a nihilistic presentation of his ideas, not his statements

  • Probably the most smug credits ever... I love it and I love Lars.

  • @rambo2709 well, it should be no surprise that Brievik the mass murderer loved this film, this film actively promotes genocide. The point is simple-poor people don't deserve to live. How could Lars make it any clearer?

  • @PtAltmVansanTarr

I think the point Lars is trying to make is how easy it is for people to take advantage of those unfortunate enough to end up on the lower rungs of society. At least, that's how I take it.

  • I take it there are no apressed or poor people in other countries.

  • Lars is the greatest.

  • America get your act together and start looking after your people. Things that matter too, like healthcare and education. Oh, wait that's a step towards communism isn't it? America, it's time to grow up.

  • @angelicxpretty: quit preaching.

  • I love you Lars, and everything you stand for.

  • Last scene the dad says you should judge other people by your ethical code! You should kill those who were raised in an environment that produced a different moral code then you, not forgive and understand. Then he compares the townspeople to low income struggling Americans, saying we should kill them as well they are immoral (most of the pictures were disproportionately black and jewish people). The movie was made to deliver an "evil" message, devoid of any logic.Big shock, it turns out he is Nazi

  • If you don't see this message in the film and how it is unethical, from pretty much every belief system, then you are a moron. It was wonderfully made, with one of the worst messages you could possible put in any film. To people who think his nazi remarks were a joke this entire movie was is proof that it wasn't. Lars vonTrier is a wonderful artist, but a shitty human being. I imagine his ethics are those presented in the film, since he made a3hour movie promoting an immoral ethical position.

  • @rambo2709 To make a movie about a country he's never visited and and never will seems odd. He makes it sound like corruption, crime, backstabbing, two-faced, betrayl and rape all originated in the early days of America. All these poor people at the end, are there no poor people in Demark, Lars von Triers home country? Am I wrong? If I missed the message what was it?

  • Fuck the USA!!

  • I love this film but I hate this ending. Von Trier said that Dogville was not supposed to be an anti-USA film but than he ends this film with images of struggling towns people across the United States. What is he trying to say? That this film was all along an anti-USA film?

  • Interesting that the only moving images (not stills) are at around 3:46, where the American flag is shown.

  • Love the movie, these credits make me feel a little uneasy. Not exactly sure why, they gave me chills but they also made me kinda angry (I think its because he's never been to America and yet he makes such daring statements about it). I'm undecided on my feelings toward the credits. However, one things for sure, I fucking love Lars von Trier. Whether or not I like these credits, I sure as hell respect anyone with the balls to put these images with this song.

  • In the DVD commentary, von Trier proclaims that his critics can't possibly argue with the "facts" as he presents them through these photos and this song. That's a bogus claim considering the selective way he presents the images and music, but the results, independent of the movie, clue us in to the level on which von Trier often operates - that of a teenager who suddenly gets political and has to enlighten the world. In that sense, they're revelatory! And the song bleeds cool, so that helps.

  • @Coolestmovies hmm, interesting point, but I tend to think the images alone are pretty revelatory and self-explanatory even without context (other than that they are from the US).

  • @mayarose354 --- The images alone might be "revelatory" to non-Americans, or those within N. America who are too young to have a sense of history (which is far too many people these days, sadly). What I meant by "revelatory" in my last comment, though, is that Von Trier's use of the photos REVEALS (and/or confirms) an adolescent-level social commentary that's both simplistic and obvious. His claim that his point can't be argued is like something a teenager would make, ergo it's ludicrous.

  • @mayarose354 --- Something else that struck me about this film's "message" was just how many times it has already been made in AMERICAN films over the years. In the DVD supplements, including the commentary, you get the distinct impression that he thinks he's really taking the piss out of American culture (keep in mind that he's NEVER actually been there), while remaining seemingly ignorant of the fact that he's far too late to the party. But because it's von Trier, it's "controversial" LOL

  • I really love this stuff (bowie song) also i think it bleeds cool with movie ending :))

  • I love this movie. To believe that when this film came I was only 8 years old. Amazing, masterpiece.

  • anyone know what font is used here?

  • Lars von Trier did it for the lulz.

  • Probably the most exhilarating closing credits of the last 20 years. (The movie is pretty damn exhilarating too mind you!)

  • @incrediblehulkmoviea America spends all it's money on war. "Socialist" "evil" Europe spends it's much much more money on "evil" socialist healthcare programs.

  • So this kind of stuff only happens in America? You've got to kidding. I worry about Mr. Von Trier.

  • Nice song. Fits perfectly with the movie :)

  • LOL

  • excellent!

  • I hate Lars von Trier so so so much.

    but thanks for posting this.

  • Lars von Trier hates you too. :)
