Anyone know which Goose was in front of the San Miguel County Courthouse in downtown Telluride for years and where is it now. The fact that any of the Geese were restored to operation and run on the D&S and C&T is an amazing and good thing. Next time I am in Colorado I hope to ride a Goose. Highest compliments to those who made it happen.
A Goose ride is a hoot, well worth doing. They ride smoothly and accelerate briskly. They are quicker over the road than the steam trains. Other railroads asked the RGS for plans so that they could build their own. It's a good thing that all survive: Goose 1 was dismantled to build Goose 2, but the replica is pretty faithful.
Aside fromthe replica of Goose 1 at the Ridgway museum (Buick chassis, operable), the rest of the geese flock survives. Goose 3 is operable at Knotts Berry Farm, now with a diesel engine. It's used when the steam engines are down for service or off season crowds. Geese 2, 6, and 7 are at the Colorado railroad Museum, and will all be operated at the ehd of November. Goose 4 is being restored at Ridgway. So by the end of this year they may all be operational!
yup also they were major gas guzzlers They averaged 1-3MPG lol so? they REAL cool railroad equipment!! I believe someone did a exact replica of Goose #1
Folks, these were the streamliners of the Narrow Gauges.. They were desingned for survival, and in that, they succeed briantlly for antoher 25 years. The folks behind these were creative beyond any reconditin we have givne them.
THE Narrow Guage equivalent of the streamliner.. These things were HUGE.. they allowed opperaters to go on for another 20 years against utterly hopeless finances and odds.
