woa...I'm actually going through the exact same thing after my 2nd session with Master K, my legs where not spread enough and I didn't hump the air to initiate my kick. Also, this changes the point of impact(max speed) for the high kick. Its a little later in the arc.
@sharked Yes, he kept telling me to "slow down" my kicking leg and "speed up" the turn on the standing leg. I found the only way to slow down the kicking leg is to utterly relax it and let it become a whip or like a baseball bat trailing behind me and just focusing everything on that standing leg. But getting the turn and THEN the thrust is hard on kicks; I can do it with a knee, no problem, but I can't get height for a kick. Yet.

@aoshi3000 I've heard it called a "banana bag", but we just call it the Fairtex bag. It's full of various kinds of cloth, I think.
