i just love to hear these kids sing. No one is a bigger fan than me, but they are "Classical Crossover" singers not opera stars. I don't know if any of the 3 will ever sing in opera - maybe, just maybe, Ignazio, the big boy lyric tenor, but that's a big "If" - if he trains with the right music teacher. Just listen to Mario Lanza as a teenager (Youtube - Mario Lanza at 19 years of age) & then make a comparison.

Opera requires NO AMPLIFICATION. Josh Groban, IL VOLO, IL DIVO, Celine Dion and yes even Andrea Bocelli (for the most part) are NOT opera stars. Bocelli has done opera, to mixed success. Most of the folks just mentioned have operatic voices, but that's it. They are classic crossover or operatic-pop.

Most of them do not have the power and range to sing (no microphone) opera so that it can carry to the back of an opera house. Of the 3 IL VOLO guys, it's iffy whether they'll ever sing opera. One has a Lyric Tenor voice, one a Spinto Tenor, and one a Heldentenor (Baritone with high upper range). Only the tall one (Lyrical Tenor) has the potential to sing opera later in life.
These are NOT Opera stars... they are known as "Classical Crossover", or "Operatic Pop"... as is IL DIVO and Andrea Bocelli. These guys voices are still developing, and should be outstanding by the time they're in their 20's.

These are talented kids, but why does video refers to them as "opera singers"? This mis-labeling creates a lot of confusion and is not fair to both these singers and to real opera singers. Some decades ago everyone sang in a similar style including pop singers. What I find curious is on the one hand media and public claim that people don't care for opera and on another hand media seems to feel labeling someone an "opera singer" is beneficial. Why is it?
If you really want to get technical, what they are doing is operatic style pop. Pop-opera just verbal shorthand that is a description most, especially non-musician, people understand. I have heard them do some operatic arias as solos, not as a group.

I am really looking forward to hearing them sing in person and seeing in real life. I love live performances! They have a series of concerts set up all over the country and adding more as we watch these videos. Thousands of people are going to see these great young performers.

@Draeconin Goodness, this was about two years ago. All their voices have changed, especially Ignazio's. At 16 his voice is much more powerful. They are not opera singers, but the one at the present time who technically has a voice which lends itself more to opera is Ignazio. They are all sensational & no one hits a high C better than Piero or has a more sensual sound to his voice than Gianluca

@Draeconin Goodness, this was about two years ago. All their voices have changed, especially Ignazio's. At 16 his voice is much more powerful. They are not opera singers, but the one at the present time who technically has a voice which lends itself more to opera is Ignazio. They are all sensational & no one hits a high C better than Piero or has a more sensual sound to his voice than Gianluca

Good voices...but "opera singers" sing in operas. This is a concert, not an opera and O Sole mio is a popular italian song. It has nothing to do with opera.
