  • I love being an LPN, I work in a nursing home in an upscale NYC neighborhood on a rehab floor and love it. This is my first job as an LPN and my salary without ot is 51k. I plan on doing the RN but for now I am pleased. I do feel fulfilled in my job and while it is hard work and no way to give 40 residents meds in a 2 hour window, as long as you do your job and maintain a positive attitude you coworkers along with your charge nurse will still respect you as long as they see you working.

  • lpns are the lowest paid nurse nursing homes are awful the staff meaning management are nightmares , they will hang you out to dry i am still waiting for that feeling of i am actually helping someone . nursing is a business and the rules are outrageous to finish giving 40 peopple med in a two hour window. every mistake you are demonized and half the nurses do not want to be there they all hate the job

  • @9akashi I think LPN pay all depends on where you are and of coures how many years you have in it....I think it takes a special kind of nurse to work in a nursing home

  • LPN's are the backbone of the nursing profession. They also have better clinical skills and clinical knowledge than RN's. RN's want to delegate work more than do the work. Everybody wants to be charge nurse! They also make much less than RN's.

  • @ah4288

much less? i dont think so.

  • @djackson111 Depends on where you are...I make way in this state than where I came from

  • Is the job of an LPN hard? Do you have to bath patients, wipe them, and lift them as well? This is a field that I am contemplating on going into.

  • @Icec0Id0 Depends on where you work...home care yes...you are the only person there...in a facility you have CNA's...that's their job but if you are short staffed it would help if the nurse would help out...I am one nurse that will help out my CNA's.....lifting is something you will more than likely have to do...if you have a pt you are giving meds to and they are too low in the bed...ya have to pull em up

  • @PunkinLPN Thanks for the info!

  • i am in lpn school about to do my practical exam in two weeks anyone need any advice starting lpn school just message me in my inbox

  • is lpn school hard?..

  • @applecandy68 It is a lot of info to take in....you have to focus on it

  • What u say about people saying LPNs are being phased out?

  • @supremo502 I think every LPN class always hear that they are going to phase out LPN'S......my mom heard that when she was in school and that was 30 years ago

  • @PunkinLPN all the hospitals around here in TN from Hopkinsville,ky to nashville, tn all the hospitals fired all of their LPN's or forced them retire. And hospice here dont allow LPN's either. They are doing a pretty to job of keeping the LPN's in the Nursing homes Hospitals fired them all and wont hire them.

  • @PunkinLPN i inquired about taking my LPN boards and my nurse manager at Vanderbilt Medical Centre told me if i took my LPN NCLEX i'd be fired, it was RN or nothing.

  • @rcarnes1988 Wow! never heard that one. Do they not hire LPN's? Is that where you want to stay when you get your RN? If not I would look for a LPN positions somewhere if you have your permit. Taking your LPN boards is a good practice for when you take your RN boards....plus that would be more money for you. Your going to have to decide what is best for you...let me know how it turns out

  • iam going to do my lpn this year last year i did my pct.my only fear is dealing with death i hate it.my sis is a RN.im studying for the teas test now.

  • @remarkable305 I start my pre reqs on the 24th for my RN. Death is hard to deal with... we have lost around 7 patients in the last 2 weeks and I found myself overwhelmed....you just have to deal wth it in your own personal way. Good luck to you!

  • im going to do the lpn this year my only fear is death i hated death.my sis is an RN

  • ..it does piss me off when a nurse does answer a call light and then comes and tells me that someone needs to go to the restroom or needs a bedpan. you're right you have to be a team player and its all about teamwork when it comes to nursing or else one should not become one. i'm applying to an lpn program and i hope that i will get in so that i can start next august =)

  • @tomx1704 I'm finding that my CNA's are not understanding that we can't do a lot of stuff for them. I do do the call lights and do what I can. They got pissed at me because I told them that I can help you with your work but when your all done and I'm still here who is going to help me finish mine. I find that some people are justhard to please but that is part of this and any profession. Good luck with LPN school

  • @PunkinLPN thanks! I'm sure the other CNA's are grateful for your help!

  • it's so good to hear that you help out with your cna's!...its SO true many nurses won't help their cna's or answer call lights!...it doesnt take much to take someone to the restroom or put someone on the bedpan..and it doesnt hurt for a nurse to answer a call light every once in awhile when your cna's can't get to them bc their busy in another room taking care of someone.. bc someone may need something simple such as needing water or needing more covers on bc their cold..

  • totally off topic, but I had the same bedroom set in a tan color...lol

  • @visionofsexxy LOL...someone else commented on one of my other vids that they had my dining room table

  • You seem very positive and intelligent i wish you the best...keep on going....im taking my lpn now so wish me luck!

  • @iyannah100 Good luck!

  • My Mom was a LPN too!! and my best friend!!

  • Some hard work.. I'm good just working in Media :-P

  • Very informative video. I learned something new today from you! =D

  • really enjoyed hearing your story i just love the medical field =)i think you really shoud do the fast track proram and i pray all goes well =)

  • I can tell you are a good Nurse...team work is def the way to go, I have seen nurse act all stink in hospitals as if they cant do anything besides paper work..and thas terrible...I have been thinkin about being an LPN lately cause thats what my b/f does and he tells me what its like, and I think i might wanna give it a shot, I went to school for MA and still cant find a job and that was 2 years ago now :(

  • @ItsSandyCheeks it's worse in the nursing homes...many nurses won't answer call lights or help their cnas except for a few..and nursing is all about teamwork..cna's and nurses have to do their part...not just nurses passing meds and doing documentation!..im applying to an lpn program & hope i get in so i can start next august..look luck to u =)

  • @tomx1704 Yes I have been hearing so many bad things about CNA'S and RN's and its so sad that people act that way. Anyways I started LPN in September, its a lot of work so far I hope I make it to term 2 and start clinicals

  • Thank you! :)
