i think that Luffy is the English/American name, Rufy is the japanese....there are very different names, for example here in Italy he's name is Rubber...

@M4ND0N In one piece, They distort some words intentionally, because they want it to be funny, like franky when he said Reft instead of Left, but thats not the case. in translation rules, Names cant be translated, so they pronounce them as they are .. so Luffy is Luffy in every tongue .. so its the fault of the idiot who thought the japanese spelled it Ruffy, then translated it based on what he heard ! end of story good night .

However, "Ruffy" sounds a lot better in German than "Luffy" (from the pronouncing), and they translated "Luffy" to "Ruffy" in the anime. Probably for the aforesaid reason. I actually couldn't care less whether I read "Luffy" or "Ruffy" in the video comments... everyone knows who people are talking about anyway.

@emilons97 If you listen close enough, japanese people say a mix between "L" and "R", probably because they can't pronounce the "R" properly. The original japanese name is "Monkii D. Rufi", however the wanted posters say "Luffy". You can argue about that but I don't see a sense in it.

Franky for example calls Luffy "Rufii" or so, whereas Usopps pronounciation is rather "Luffy".
