Before Game 5, with the Giants leading the series 3–1, Rentería joked with teammate Andrés Torres that he was going to hit a home run. In the seventh inning, with runners at second and third, two outs, and no score, Rentería hit a three-run home run off of Rangers' pitcher Cliff Lee that won the series for the Giants.
@fleetfox84 They are homers, but not even CLOSE to as much as the Rockies' guys. I'm a Giants fan that lives in Colorado, and when I watch the Giants on TV here against the Rockies, it's SO ANNOYING! These guys will literally cheer on Tulo and Car-Go when they're up with runners on in 9th. One time I heard one of them say "Come on Car-go"! Really!!!
@JOVANNIESTRADA100 the one microscopic bad part about winning the WS is that we get so many primetime games with espn and such. So less kruk & kuip dangit...
The break in his voice shows the emotion of the moment and really made this a great call. So many call guys around the league are so monotone and plain. I can't wait to hear this call again in the next World Series!
I remember when Flemming was doing PBP along side Deane Ehlis for the Iowa Cubs nearly a decade ago. Deane is still doing the I-Cubs and Dave's doing the Giants with Miller, Kuiper, and Krukow.
Ranks right up there with Sean McDonough's voice cracking call of Sid Bream sliding into home plate safely with the winning run in Game 7 of the 1992 NLCS.
:And he is SAFE!! Safe at the plate! The Braves go to the World Series!"
Callers sometimes make weak attempts on KNBR to sorta knock him for this call but honestly, I can recite every single word of this call from memory. So memorable. It was funny and epic and fit the moment perfectly, just like Renteria's shot. A great call from a great announcer. Thanks, Flem, I'll play this for my kids one day.
Dave said he wished his voice didn't crack; but I tell ya what...I'd have it no other way! I watched all the games with the tv sound turned down and the iPod radio broadcast synced up so I could hear the KNBR guys. They are the best!
I agree. I have replayed this so many times. I was in the car when I heard this and I couldn't stop screaming. All I was hoping for was a hit to get Uribe and Ross in. the fact that his voice cracked reflects the total out of control excitement we all felt. Way to go Flem.
Just a heads up----- Send me a message and I can get you this radio call and the final pitch on Mp3. The anti-fans who run MLB deleted my videos so I'm sure this one will be next. Apparently it is not about the fans, but about taking every penny from us it seems! My rant is done - I look forward to your e-mails.

He's golden on the mike, a great complement to an outrageously talented broadcast team. But he does look like Howdy Doody. I little less so each year though. Smart dude, glad he's broadcasting the Giants.
Fleming finally hits puberty!!! Took Edgar Renteria doing the impossible to create the impossible. Can't stand Fleming as he is an obvious nerd who was pants in school and likely never played baseball at any sort of competitive level. I guess he is the announcer who can relate to the silicon valley techy dorky crowd. That's cool I guess. Just realized his place on the broadcast team as I wrote this. Glad he hit puberty though....should be EVEN better next year!! Giants Baby...!!!
The voice crack will be the most memorable HR call in San Francisco Giants history as of now, especially with Renteria hitting it with a torn bicep tendon!
Flem has nothing to worry about...I remember Hank Greenwald's voice cracking when Will Clark hit the ball up the middle off of Mitch Williams in the 1989 NLCS vs the Cubs...at least the mic was working this time on a historical call
I love the flemster...... knows the game very well... explains the strategy and the consecuences as to what can happen if you do or don't do whatever it is the situation is in the game at that moment... and i know he was upset by the break of the voice in the "GONE" part of the call..but, that in itself makes the call even better because all giants fans had the same reaction...... good job flem... im glad you weren't at stanford for the world series..

This almost beats any call Kuiper or Miller homerun call simply because his voice crack symbolizes the worlds reaction to the Giants.
"Holy crap(crack), they're going to do it."
