  • its ok to use the grigri but back it up wit a rusik or get out and buy yourseld a petzl ascender.

the are much easier and lighter than the grigri

hope all othe climbs go well DONT FALL !! like hte video thanks :)

  • Dude nice video, love the harness. I would use a grappling hook instead of a tennis ball, I am even developing a grappling hook arrow you shoot out of a bow.

  • what an idiot!

  • I have never seen such a daft fucking pilok in all my life from a qualified harberistbye the way for the daft pilok/tree surgon if u dont know that and i hope u die next time u trt it to make a lesson for ur children and a inbarising farther

  • May I ask, does your rope on the tree wear out?

  • You should get a copy of The Treeclimber's Companion, which shows safe ways to rig DRT and SRT climbs. That climb you did looks well-suited to a double-rope technique (which is basically a single rope with a modified prussik in it). Also, don't forget some sort of treesaver so you don't saw through the tree. But of course I wouldn't ever recommend anyone try this stuff without proper training! ;)

  • If you try that again, I recommend tying off one end of the rope with a timber hitch around the bottom of the tree, and using two prussic loops to ascend just one rope. You said that you went about 6 meters up, and in doing that, your arms pulled the equivalent of 12 meters.

  • you should stick to messing about with techno toys and stay away from trees. You did an exponential amount of work more than you needed too in order to get up there. A prussik, some aiders and a sturdy rope was all you needed.

You are foolish to think gadgets make things easier.

  • Amazing tree climber .... (its really amazing, climbing opposite way) /watch?v=Wmv3vR8BvhM

  • cool video you have there my friend.

i'm no climber, but i also plan to climb a tree. your technique seems to be too tough for me, i'll try to use a prussik to lift myself up with the aid of my foot.

    thanks for explaining the GRIGRI

  • Hi Fed,

Careful about that technique, experienced climbers disapprove it... Seems grigri might not fit that purpose!

Prussik sounds like what's often suggested, safer, more efficient, etc. I'll be glad to watch any vid you upload about that! Let me know :D

  • what is the rapelling device called

  • According to their sayings, my usage of it is wrong. Doesn't change the device's name :-)

It's a grigri, made by Petzl.

    Cheers!

  • ..ok that all for today..no more time for this "Bullshit "moves...They are cool any way!!

  • Wow you got some stamina to watch all these in a row :D

Yeah, it's my bullshit factory n_n

    thanks for watching!

  • this is not advice

  • you need 50 lb mono and kids compuond bow you dork i can shoot a line 80 ft up in under 5 minutes

  • hmpf you mean that yellowish compound bow in my attic? Out of arrows mate! Back then, I fancied to buy some in july 07... not climbed trees ever since

  • Haha! :) This video is so entertaining to watch! Love your accent! Keep posting vids! :) Climb safe

  • Ahahaha you got a great sense of humor :)!

The Grigri is a great all around device, I do think they are quite unique, although I stick with an ATC Guide (can use it for this purose too, although much harder to use) I do think the Grigri is a very multi-use belay.

Just be careful doing that, you can wear your rope really quick on the rough surfaces of a tree branch, you might want to sling up some protection for it with it, falling from that height sucks.

  • hey thanks ^^

Ah, the ATC guide, never tried one of these, looks harder indeed :/

and yep, the rope sustained some damage :( Next time I try I'll attempt to use a nylon, non elastic rope to maintaint a pulley or something... let me know if you upload any climbing vid!

    cheers

  • haha i like how u improvise with the stick

  • i am going to show you how to climb a tree...

  • good idea, share the link when it's online! cheers

  • i'll do it but we're having really bad wheather here i'm waiting for a good weekend then it'll be done...

  • hahaha sounds like goldmember at about 8:00 when he says isn't that vierd hhahaha

  • yesh yesh i know I have a dutshh acshent ;-)

    (shmoke and a pancake?)

  • shut up you have no idea what you are doing you irratating little faggot

  • Ok so you're back with a brand new account, created today. Jeez get a life please!

  • i actually hate u!!!!! learn to climb properly u silly french muppit!!!

  • Hmm. Not only you hate people with no reason, but you have nothing to do of your life? Jeez. You gave me a good laugh though. First time I see a hater creating a new account just to send brainless hate.

  • All the gear and no idea!!!! you stupid french man... this is not how to climb a tree.

  • ... "no idea"? I had fun. Is it the reason why you envy me? People don't address hate without a reason... I'm not even french.

  • real men dont need ropes to climb trees. =P

  • you can kill yourself and your "new hardware"

the tree is rough and its damage the rope...

Plus, there is special gear to ascent a rope (dont do it with your hands like that)

  • so a device like the gri gri will automatically lock when he takes his hands off?

  • is he climbing on dynamic rock climbing rope? and yeah the propper term is bodythrusting, a prussik is only the name of the friction knot.

  • you are crap mate

  • prussicing would have made that so much easier than hauling yourself up that rope, even with your method if you put a weight on the other end of the rope the grigri would have auto fed,

  • I don't know what your talking about, because I don't know anything about tree climbing. I just got interested this morning in buying the belt and spikes on ebay so i could do it at the redwoods sometime. who has a credible video on how it's done?? Lost and treeless!!

  • For one thing, you DON'T!! use climbing spikes, spurs, or gaffs on LIVE trees. There are many vids on here or you can go to the Tree Climbers International website and check out what they have.

  • What if I want to remove a live tree?

  • If you are removing (cutting down) a live tree then using spikes and a flip line is fine and probably your best bet. You don't have to worry about damaging the tree or giving parasites and diseases a way into the tree.

  • It seems to me that you have an average knowlege about trees in urban areas.

Thank´s for answering my stupid question.

  • you will find people working on by power lines will climb living trees with spikes just to cut a limb off just because they can work faster, a real tree surgeon will not.

  • Dude you retarded!!!!!!!!

  • wow...I've never climbed a tree yet but I do know a ton of stuff that he did wrong. Bad video if your thinking of climbing a tree. Even I know not to use a gri gri, never climb alone, use a thinner throw line, get a better line setter, get a tree saver, use a friction knot instead, umm shall I keep going. How bout have your hand always on the down rope when decending with a gri gri.

  • amazing je je je

  • yeah dude, dont use a grigri for Ddrt, no need. Tie a blake's hitch and save your grigri for single rope climbing. And if you use a slmall pouch of shot instead of a tennis ball for a throw-weight, you'll pitch way higher

  • Finally, never climb with only one point of protection (ie. always have a backup system in case the first one fails)! Especially with something like a grigri, you will kill yourself. Also, don't climb alone, have someone along with a phone.

Climbing is awesome, however, I am sure you could find some local climbing groups or a place like greenpeace that could train you properly. Dying is a bad idea, especially over something as dumb as looping a grigri the wrong way or picking your tree badly.

  • You should look into a technique called "Prusik'ing". It uses an alternation between legs and arms to ascend the rope, gives you two points of safety, and costs a hell of a lot less than a grigri. Hauling yourself up the rope with your arms is crazy! (see my video)

Tossing a rope over a branch can save time, however, if you are going very high, it makes sense to learn how to tree-stirrup. It does not harm the tree and again doesn't involve fancy equipment. You can go as high as you need.

  • "prussiking" Think you mean using the prussik friction hitch and using the technique called body thrusting. Never heard that expression im a professional tree surgeon, not being funny, by the way

  • prusiking/prusicing is usually used as a causal term amongst rock climbers.

  • This guy makes it look like hard work, and your better using a cambium saver if your going to prune trees, but spikes are great fun on dismantles!!!!

  • I don't think that this is a good technic to climb up a "wire"

  • LMFAO! ita a bit like davy jones eh? eh? oh never mind.

classic, good work mate, keep it up!

  • This really isn't the proper way to climb trees. You damage the tree, search for some proper info...

  • Using claws is bad for the tree, too :(

However, I've bought a second rope, meant to hang a pulley. That won't damage the tree.
