Umemiya showed great skill and even more character. He should be proud of his performance. I feel that in his mind, the challenge of Michiba was the victory, not the winning or losing...it would be an honor for any "common" chef to go up against someone as great as Michiba.
Nice touch by Michiba in giving green bell pepper bowls to the men and the yellow to the woman. Surprise he didn't give her a red one, though, since according to Chairman Kaga in another episode, the saying goes, "Green for the king, red for the queen, and yellow for the prince."
I was surprised that he challenged Michiba, I guess he knew he didn't stand a chance at winning. Great battle though, he was a funny guy. I hope he wasn't too disappointed with his soup.
I think there was an IC America with Puck vs IC Morimoto, and Flay vs IC Sakai. I think both Japanese chefs lost.
Then again, there probably is some kind of favoritism going on (judges were American, and the show is ICA). I remember this one special guest that his palette is so unsophisticated (it's a battle w/ Morimoto in it I think), that it makes you wonder if he's even qualified to judge (the type that only eats burgers & spaghetti). Win rates of Morimoto and Cora is also suspiciously low
Ahhhh....Michiba style...I knew he would win. Good job Michiba! The challenger tried his best and gave a good performance. Thanks for the upload once again.
i'd have loved to see him challenge sakai, he is usually pretty funny.

Props to the challenger. I didn't expect him to win but still he gets credits for stepping up.

You know, I can't think of a single American celebrity who would be able to challenge an IC. That being considered, the challenger did quite well.

I think this is the only Iron Chef battle that I have seen with an amateur as the challenger. He did well.
