@bernarmainwaring The Everly Brothers made a fantastic version of this song in their own unique vocal style but it was written by Bob Miller and covered by many artistes.
All this bollocks about singers who "cover" a song and" make it their own" is just that ...BOLLOCKS . Because the original version is usually the best version especially if it's by the singer songwriter and what these cover artists do ,or how they do it is never as good as the Real Thing because it's already been "made their own"by the original artist..
my mom used to sing this a lot when I was little. I even thought it was one of those nursery rhymes! lol. Although it never failed to bring me at the verge of tears when she sang this, i love this song dearly. I miss my mom...
O, grab my heart on NY eve morning. Reminds me of my Gram; i have the rocking chair she rocked my mom and uncles on, and then me and my bros and cousins. Everly Bros were just babies here, sweet young voices, faces. Good photos. They say siblings and family members have the best harmonies. Everly Bros proof in the pudding. Loved them in the 50s, but had never heard this old time stuff. THANK you!
Ive searched all over for this great song , it means so much to me and I guess millions of others who really love and miss there Grannies . The words are so meaningful full of love and beautifully sung by the Everlys Bros . I am not sure but I think it was written by Eddy Arnold
the song is so great, and sad.....i love it and can't stop tears too....thanks so much.....it remains me when my mother died and i am only 8 years old.
How sad to be so alone in old age - so much of it all 'round the world - we should all spare some time to stop and chat , instead of just passing them by without a glance in their direction. Most are only too willing to talk to you and seem happy someone has taken time to strike up a conversation. Lovely thought provoking song.
I have always thought of my grandmother in this song.. I love and loved her dearly.. and I know if mom could hear this, she may even cry.. I know I do
We are so lucky to have had them. Beautiful harmony and an inspiration to so many artists. One of the first songs I learned on the guitar and sang harmony with my sister.
This song may be is a song for every grandmothers because I heard, " I saw my old mother with silver hair." I dedicate this one to my late-grandmother and great-grandmother.

used to have the double LP of their hits...pressed in the early 70's. This one of my favorites. Sadly I lost it and many others in fire.
