My band director said he spoke with Broege about this piece and the whole idea was "Imagine you are in a car driving down the road and listening to an old fashion radio where you had to turn the knob to get to the next station, the change up is going from one station to the next" Pretty ingenious I would say.
You can barely hear it at all because Broege is a hilarious jackass, but at 4:42 he decided to give the Oboes an entire layer ALL BY THEMSELVES that makes absolutely no sense in context to what is happening with everyone else.
If you ever have the opportunity to play this piece I'd highly recommend getting your director to isolate that section so everyone can hear "what the hell the oboes are doing". XD
