@tsunayoshisawada Restoring sound money would be first priority. Then massive cuts. I'd start with the wars, the nation building, the military/industrial complex. Next would be to cut government waste and fraud, all together creating a budget surplus. At the same time lower taxes, particularly the corporate income tax (which is the highest in the world, so there goes your raising taxes argument) which would create jobs AND increase revenue. Then we could reform the entitlement system.

@jedmondson67 also, you're wrong, the SS system is nowhere near broke. it has enough money to last until 2032 WITHOUT any more funding. that includes helping out the baby boom generation, which isn't exactly helpful to this country. the ss system is vital. and we all know that you'd be complaining about it not existing if you where retired and dependent upon it for survival. your personal wellbeing doesn't matter. its the overall that matters. why dont you conservatives get that?

@tsunayoshisawada I'm not sure what planet you're getting your figures from, but SS is entirely self-financing. There is no trust fund. Payroll taxes finance SS. If you need anymore proof that SS is broke I suggest you look at the last time there was a Cost of Living Adjustment. BTW I am counting on SS not being around by the time I retire, and unlike you, I have what's called personal responsibility, and have my own retirement savings.

Sorry to break it to the socialists/liberals here, but Social Security is going broke, Medicare is going broke...it's not working. So, just how are you going to pay for it? Oh, i forgot, by raising taxes! It amazes me that people don't realize that you WILL be taxed more, nothing is free people. Even with Military healthcare, (which is a great example of universal wait-care) isn't completely free.

Secret the corporatocracy doesn't want you to know: Single Payer (also known as Medicare for All) would cost a NEGATIVE amount. That is, not only would it not cost extra, but it would save several hundred-billion dollars per year (for-profits waste that much per year with 15-25% wasted on overhead/administration versus 5% or so for public plans like Medicare or Canadian), enough to pay for covering everyone. see pnhp dott org

Jesus was a capitalist. Jesus was not a socialist because socialism believes the government should FORCE me to help others. Jesus and Paul (under inspiration) taught that if a man doesn't work, he doesn't eat (2 Thess 3:10).

The only form of socialism that Jesus taught was voluntary contributions (known as charity) -- something conservatives do far more than liberals.

people want free stuff, yea. but i dont think the working man would mind paying for his own bills. but when the average person only makes 1.3 million in thier life time and a majority of them get health issues when they get older and the bill is 1/5 of their life earnings, thats the problem.

I'm beginning to think, and feel free to reply to this comment and tell me if I'm right or wrong or if it's not this simple, but I'm beginning to think private insurance models only work for things that MIGHT happen, like fires or car crashes, but a collective risk pool for services EVERYONE will always need, like medical services, leaves no room for profit (at least not HUGE profits like those they're taking home now) without denying coverage, making single payer necessary

A lot of people have been pushing for it; it would be called Medicare Part E, as in for everyone. That is the ideal plan, a public health insurer like medicare or the VA, that is a right of birth for all citizens; that can be opted out of or exchanged for a private plan. If only we had the votes.

A laborer is worthy of his hire. As long as doctors and guys who make medical machines still get paid, this could work. If everyone becomes a moocher though, it'll be tough to pay these people.

Personally, I'm not altruistic enough to work 19 hours a day curing cancer for free. Heck, I don't think I'd work that much no matter what I was paid.
