The way I fixed it (I've got this one multiple times before) is I make a new text document on my desktop and then make a .bat file that runs cmd. from there i ran my anti-virus and it deleted it. (It actually lets you run notepad, and kaspersky anti-virus amazingly)

I removed it manually, but mine didn't drop a rootkit. Kaspersky found it, but it wouldn't quarantine it (odd) but it helped me find it because it displayed the folder it was in (same as rogueamp's) and deleted it.. I found the way around this .exe problem. Right-click and click Run as admin. Then, I went to BleepingComputer and downloaded a file named FixNCR.reg. That fixed it. Then I ran MBAM and removed any remains and it found 3.

I tried this fix and had a little bit of trouble. For me, the program files was listed just as "iexplorer" and not "iexplorer.exe" and same for firefox. I was unable to change to .com. I looked at a few other videos and couldn't find one that worked. Finally i looked in comments and someone had a code/product key to enter. I entered it and it worked to get me to the combo fix download step. That fixed it! The code that I entered was 1147-175591-6550. This was the only thing that saved me.

My PC still works fine so i know it works , Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, Computer- Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz 3.19GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM. This virus will hide its self in different places and use different names. OS (C:)?. Well OS means Operating System, you can click on it and open it, App Data maybe in there somewhere. Just do this download combo fix from another PC copy it to a usb flash drive rename the combo fix file on the usb stick to (5.com). OK now go back to your infected PC turn the PC on and tap F8 rapidly then start safe mode without networking. Once in safe mode plug in your usb and open the combo fix file you renamed. Let it do it's thing after that your PC will reboot itself virus free.

Don't do a system restore it don't work, i tried it and it said system restore is incomplete, it's a waste of 15 minutes on XP anyway. I don't see how this didn't work for some.. make sure you rename the combofix install file before you put it on your infected PC, If you don't then the virus will just override it from fixing your PC. I lost nothing everything works like it did before i was infected, Now just go and delete them old restore points that are infected and make new ones. good luck

I booted into safe mode and ran a couple anti-virus and anti-malware programs and nothing. I tried restoring to a backup but the clever bastard deleted all my backups. It eventually came to the point where I was forced to restore to factory default

Thank you man fixed my PC, I did manage to find a way around the browser block, in safe mode without renaming the file, i just opened my Firefox then when the virus shit popped up, you open task manager and kill the 3 letter process, mine was tuu.exe, then you can use your browser, that's how i found your video, went to another PC downloaded combo fix to a USB stick, renamed it 5.com installed in safe mode worked, after that i used CCleaner to clean out the registry, Verizon full scan, Works :)

At 10:20, you were having trouble renaming the chrome file back to an exe. This is because Windows wasn't showing the extensions of known files. Checking the option for Windows to show all file extensions in the Folder Options box should allow you to change everything back.

Btw, there is a way to get ont your browser with this rouge and WITHOUT having to go into safe mode and/or changing/adding onto the file ext. of your .exe file. Just open up CCleaner and hit the update link. It will bypass the rouge and bring you straight to the piriform site, at which point internet access is allowable again. I've done this, mainly using F.Fox/
