Beautiful footage accompanied by beautiful music.

  • Hey,

Great video! I'm interested in seeing Fiji by boat - on the Moet hopefully! What was it like, shoot me an email if you've got some time to tell me a bit about it, expenses- length of time, how fantastic it was!

    Cheers,

    Lucie

  • Hi Gary, Glad everyone is enjoying your film, that was a great trip eh?! We are organsing a similar trip in Fiji this year, so if anyone who is watching this is interested in sailing and surfing in Fiji email us: fransandsylvia at hotmail dot com (I have to write it like this cos they don't allow email addresses in these comments sorry) I'm just going to send you an email now Gary so check your inbox!!

  • Great :-) Good music ... Good Video ... Everything to dream !!!

  • Beautiful vid. Looks like you had a nice time. Its nice to to know theres people out there who respest what mother nature gave us!

  • damn good film, what area of fiji did you sail around?

  • Originally we were heading south from Viti Levu to Kandavu but that was cut short for a number of reasons. We then headed back up the west coast and out to the Manamuncas islands (past Tavarua and Nomotu) and then onto the Yasawas.

  • how big were the waves out between islands, i'm thinking of sailing around fiji myself

  • Do it. You'll have an amazing time. Plenty of waves to be found and the best/only way to get to most is by boat.

Size? Theres a shakey section in the film (around 4 minutes) which was pretty big but then theres always other options on nearby reefs.

  • amazing little video!!!

  • this is a great vid. wonderful footage and I like the outcome of using the super8

  • Hey a fellow s8 and surfer! Nice footage, must have been a great trip. Tried the ectachrome 64t yet? Cheers!

  • amazing man

    that surf was realy roots

    irado

  • Looks like a super fun trip! Did you sail from NZ to Fiji or fly? Hope you don't mind, I linked it on http://www.70percent.org

  • I didn't sail. The boat I was on had recently sailed from New Zealand but unfortunately it didn't work with the time I was there. Instead I boarded the boat in Fiji and spent the month exploring the islands by sea.

Thanks for linking it to the site, that great. I'd encourage that.

    Thanks again.

  • Wow, a month! Sounds (and looks) super fun!

  • great footage

    few questions

what kind of camera is this and where did you get the underwater housing

also was this all negative film or revesal

    and what music is this

all around great looking stuff though

  • Thanks Toby. It was all filmed using a Nizo 801 and a Eumig Nautica. All the water shots are using the Nautica, which is fully waterproof to around 30 metres I think. Both excellent cameras!

The film was all shot on Kodachrome 40 reversal film. I couldn't afford to get the best telecine at the time so the quality does suffer a little for that.

The music used is Ben Harper's 'Picture of Jesus', The Beta Band 'Dog Got A Bone' and Sigur Ros 'Hoppipolla'.

  • Wow! I loved every bit of it! well done!
