Yes "rap" was an old term used in the sixtes and seventys, refferd to as talkin, like from the movie airplane when the lady who spoke jive was talkin to that dude, and he said hey my momma didnt raise no dummy I dug that womens rap...
with all that was going on in his personal life at the timehe just really lets loose on this one....I love it!Wish I could of seen him live in person, what a treat forall of you that were able to.I have this dvd Crimson Whit & Indigo I recommend it for all.
Brent was so willing to push this one out to the edge - what a great rap! I never heard Brent rap like this before. And Jerry is totally getting off on that! A great sight to see! Beautiful video. Thanks so much for this one!
@thanksmrminer I guess 'rap' is an old hipster term for 'talking.' Often it would mean someone had a particular routine or 'rap' about something. It didn't have to be in music. "That freak laid down a heavy rap, man." It definitely predates the use of the term for 'rap' music but kind of means the same thing - talking music. So when Pigpen used to 'rap,' he'd be laying down a picture story outside the usual lyrics for the 'song' he was singing.
(Have you listened to old Pigpen performances like Lovelight and Good Lovin' where he starts talking to the audience in a kind of poetic illustration, usually somewhat raunchy or bawdy?) So during the second half of 'Blow Away' here, that's how I regarded what Brent was doing. He wasn't singing the lyrics but delivering a 'rap.'
Two great legends of the music industry who are no longer with us. Atleast they let us record their wisdom and playing for later generations to hear and enjoy.
one of the most distinct and incredible voices I've ever had and still have the joy of listening to.. Happy Bday, Brent and keep singing up in that magical sky
Fantastic quality clip, would love to know the source or at least have you post more, so rare to see such quality video clips, Thank you... Brent brought an electric sound and drive to the band that turned a lot of us early 80's high school age people to love the band. I saw a lot of shows and really enjoyed Brents Mojo, late in this clip, Jerry is groovin, I know they had their differences but they patched it up... Bravo

@vajrastorm What do you mean 'rap?' I hear that term tossed around with the dead, never understood what it meant though.
