  • Good young man!

  • and you guys are acting like this guy just went down the street protesting anti women's rights, calm the fuck down.

  • a sexist bigot pertains to someone who thinks that all girls should stay in the kitchen or that they shouldn't vote or work or whatever. this boy simply refused to fight a girl, you can have whatever distorted justification of hitting woman you want to have, i really don't care. but i think this boy showed a good amount of character by sticking to his morals and beliefs, (even if you don't happen to share them)

  • A girl that's made it that far deserve their respect man.

It's the ones that "try" wrestling that don't deserve people wrestling them.

  • respect for this boy

  • the bigger issue is this: God isn't real.

  • Joel is a true gentleman! I appreciate his respect for women and his stand for what is right. Men and women are equal but different and should be treated as such.

  • @LadyAbigail90 then girls shouldnt be wrestling at all because according to you "a true gentleman" stands down whenever he has to face a female, definitely not equality if you ask me but if that is the feminist ideals then girls should not be wrestling at all because it is unfair to boys who have to "stand down" whenever they face one of them. Which I think is bs and certainly isnt equality but instead privilege.

  • I'm not so cynical about his motives, genuine people who walk the talk exist

  • The main ting is who wants to wrestle a girl for a competetive sport? If you lose you look like a pussy and if you win you look like a douche and either way you have to beat up a female

  • I'm friends with this kids dad. This is crazy that the AP picked this up. Is it that big of deal?

  • lots of wrestling moves are illegal in wrestling when fighting a girl, but the girls are allowed to do them against men

  • Joel Northrup is a home-schooled son of a minister who claims his faith won't allow him to wrestle a girl. His father says "girls" should be treated with dignity and respect. What ? Men shouldn't be treated with dignity ?

I'm saddened the media hasn't pointed out that this father and son are sexist bigots who belong in the 1950's. His "religious beliefs" are a thinly veiled cover for archaic misogyny and the belief that women should stay barefoot in the kitchen pumping out babies.

  • @Perfectchi, it's good to see there are still a few advanced people left on this planet. Are you advanced enough to provide some sort of evidence to substantiate your claims? If anyone can do it, I'm sure your modern, advanced mind can.

  • I'm shocked that more news sources haven't pointed out that this guy is a dinosaur and a Neanderthal.

Does Joel also believe that women shouldn't be allowed to get a job, and would he refuse to wrestle someone who is gay ? I get the impression his father is the type who would have refused to wrestle a black man 30 years ago - because the Bible "says so."

  • @Perfectchi, you are the type who would let a door smack a woman in the head. I have as much evidence for this as your idiotic assertions. Out of the gene pool, you neanderthal.

  • @geojoey15

    not necessarily...

While I do believe women deserve dignity and respect, I don't think Joel fully demonstrated those beliefs here. The reason I say this is because she has wrestled since 2nd grade, understood and accepted all the risks of wrestling, and became pretty damn good at it. She worked hard to earn her bid to the state tournament and compete. To treat her equally and wrestle her would have been the way to show respect towards her; that what she wanted.

  • First, the pseudo-biological argument "boys are just naturally stronger than girls" as justification for not allowing mixed-gender wrestling is BS. She proved her worth by qualifying for the match to begin with; even if EVERY other member of her sex were indeed weaker than EVERY other male on the planet, she should have been granted the respect she earned by being met in the ring as an equal.

  • Secondly, that father's statement disturbs me deeply. "Girls should be treated with dignity and respect" implying that the way to do this is to not meet them in combat (regardless of whether said combat is honorable, fairly judged, nonviolent, and the combatants are determined to be of equal worth, which FURTHER implies that MEN should NOT be treated with dignity and respect in this manner. What I hear is "it's okay for boys to beat the shit out of each other, they're not as valuable as women."

  • Her "winning" the match epitomizes the American spirit. She got something (an advancement) for nothing; in addition, she is being hailed as a pioneer American woman, second only to Annie Oakley. Her parents shed real tears of joy. There will be statues of her in the public parks.

As for her "male" opponent, he epitomizes the continuing emasculation of the American man. I cringe when people call him a coward, but I honestly cannot think of a better word. It's sad, very sad...

  • Equal rights versus religious beliefs - I'm not sure how I feel about this matter.

  • He was more afraid of losing against a girl than anything. That loss would have been too embarrising. I think after she grabbed his nuts and smacked his face into the mat a few times, he might have found his fighting spirit. Wrestling practice is where the real fun is. Anything goes. Nobody is watching. Oh yea. I wonder who are her wrestling partners in practice.

  • @westin1985: I think you're right. It's laughable how the father tries to position it as treating women with dignity and respect. Since it's obviously the girl's choice to participate, honoring the match would be treating her with dignity and respect. By forfeiting, he not only looks like a wuss, he places women in a 2nd class.

  • Equal rights. Just kick her ass. I would.

  • I don't understand why this is even newsworthy. For personal reasons the challenger forfeited. It happens all the time in sports. There is no deal to be made here.

  • @TheseareStrange Its newsworthy because the news is controlled by liberals, and liberals are the ones pushing for equality in all aspects of life, even when its inappropriate--like sports. Especially a full on contact sport like wrestling. So when a conservative christian says he won't compete with a girl, all of a sudden its news.

  • I think this boy is a sexist coward. That girl is a "state-qualifyer". She knows the rules and risks involved. To deny her the glory of kicking his ass was worse than just giving up from the start. And then he hides behind religion to justify it. COWARD!!! that is all.....

  • @MightyPhalus I'd fight her in MMA and just knock her the fuck out for trying to be in a boys league when there are girls leagues... Shes the sexist one. It would be COMPLETELY frowned upon for the guy to join a womens wrestling league, but she can join mens with the guys taking the heat for not wanting to slam a girl.

  • @joeandray If you think she should be knocked-the-fuck out, then let it be. But for him to quit makes him look like he was afriad of losing to a chick. If he kicked her ass, then so what.

  • ah, i like the camel toe at the end. now THAT is journalism!

  • Lol yeah we're all equal.

  • i would say no because i wasent raised to hit girls it think its wrong if girls want to play sports that boys put them into a girl vs girl sort of thing

  • They shouldn't be doing that, competing a girl against a boy in this way. But if they are going to do it, a good looking girl should be competing against the boy AND there must be no sexual harassment charges that can be filed. I would've enjoyed this sport and have wrestled girls all the time. I would have my own special wrestling moves/positions. Ready-to-go women would love to wrestle me!

  • 1:22 lol sorry couldnt help to notice...

  • I respect the kid for his decision.

  • What a disrespectful dick

  • Religion and faith = Sexism and discrimination

  • @Vladimir0538 your right girls should be able to get there asses kicked by a guy in a sport such as wrestling. girls in wrestling is the stupidest thing ive ever heard. im not sexist but to put a boy in a position like that is really stupid.

  • @Vladimir0538 Agreed.

  • Good thing she's so tiny, or her camel toe would really be poking out.

  • I kinda understand the kid. I had to wrestle girls and I loved it lol, but my little brother lost to girl...badly he was never the same.

  • i woulda groped her mang

  • I know I'd be proud if he was my kid, giving up such an accolade because it went against his principles. Good quality to have as an adult.

  • @Corvastus What you call principles, I call a closed-minded bigot.

  • @MightyPhalus Another public school indoctrinated idiot, one who probably believes homosexuality is normal and surrender is better than any sort of war. The 1960s called; they want their belief system back.

  • @Coachwkr Homosexuality has always existed in the world and there is proof. It exists in ever country, society, racial group, every class from poor to rich, each gender and even amongst some animals. Therefore, by definition it is in fact normal.

  • @Caroo2 ...Animals cant be homosexual because they arent attracted to anything. Its all instinct...you sir... are fucking retarded. But yes its been around forever, its just never been exepted.

  • @joeandray First of all, being retarded doesn't equal being stupid. There are some intelligent people with mental disabilities. With that said, I am neither. Secondly, the point is, if its always been around, then its normal. Regardless if people accepted it or not. The sun has always existed, therefore the sun being in the sky is normal. If we're not mature enough to accept the sun exists naturally and isn't a man made creation then too bad but its still gonna shine. Same with gays. Truth

  • While it is never a good idea for women to compete in a sport with men....the girl understood what the possible consequences were of injury. She agreed to them and wanted to compete anyways.

    She was fair game.

  • i would kick the f'n crap out of that clueless bitch

  • If you win, you beat a girl.

If you lose, you lost to a girl.

And everyone might see you get a boner.

That being said, it looks like the matter was handled by everyone involved with sportsmanship and principal.

  • @DrLeroyGreen lol I remember a friend popped a boner, but the funny part is he was wrestling a dude. 6 years later we still call him"boner" I cant wait until his daughter says, uncle john why do you call daddy boner.

  • I may be outta line for saying this, but if the girl is flat-chested it wouldn't bother me. She looks like a boy anyway. Now if she had some curves on her I'd would find it hard not to pop a Saint Peter.

  • i would do it but just to grab her ass legs and pussy just keepin it real

  • He should have broken her neck and ended the controversy. See how many more girls want to fight.

  • Fine young man.

  • I think it's sexist to think that all girls are weak and shouldn't be put in the same situations >_> Just because they're usually smaller doesn't mean they can't be powerful.

  • @Gahagafaga

pretty fucking sure that since they're smaller they are less powerful

  • why has this video got a nissan advert!!!!

  • religious nuts at it again, they just cant stop can they

  • 1:18 camel toe attack!

  • Good on him - Even in sport, men should not be beating up on women.

  • I would like to beat the S#hit outta that girl!

  • @jaowseph ahahahahaha equal rights and all

  • Lol
