  • So this is the year 3000?

  • The monitor from the '80s was a pretty retro touch.

  • Dooley fancies herself to be some sort of transdimensional Natasha Kerensky. This is a nice little production and all, but there are a lot of things stated that make me cringe, like a Thor that's 13.5 tons overweight and the apparent depiction of Solaris 7 as an active battlefield.

Oh well, it's still no Dark Age.

  • I used to play this in Walnut Creek, CA. And it looks like there is still some working in Houston. I might just have to check that out for Thanksgiving...

  • Teleporters?

  • I remember there was one of these BattleTech centers here in Costa Mesa California at Triangle Square mall. I would go there when I was like 14 and spend all my allowance playing these games and buying the toys. Heck, I think this was before they even had 32mb graphics cards. Goood times

  • Man, what a trip seeing this. After I watched it back in the day, I agonized over what callsign to use, not wanting to look like one of those "rooks." I ended up going with "Gunslinger." Wow. I remember it now. "Damn it, 'slinger! Get your butt down here!" "Hang tight, Phantom. En route now..."

  • Cool

  • wow that was super cheesy and I didn't even know it before

  • What BattleTech needs is hollywood putting so much advert into making anime into movies (Transformers, Astro Boy et cetera) and start up a new (RL) BattleTech series for the 21st C. Then hopefully it would get crafted into a movie script

  • Red Planet is back. Visit the VirtualWorld web site.

  • I would go to Virtual World every time I went to Las Vegas. I liked the Red Planet game better. You got 3 games for $20. Back then that was a lot. I would pay that now if they would bring these games back.

  • Does anyone know what happened to the Chicago site and why it closed. Im looking for people who used to go there. This is Kharn.

  • The BattleTech Center moved to Dave and Busters on Oak and Clark until 2005. Then everything moved to Kalamazoo, MI.

  • You guys need to bring that game back to Dave & Busters! Why don't you work something out w/ them. But I do agree that this game came out decades ahead of it's time

  • @dkempster2004

It was a sad day when that happened. However, North Pier Festival Market was dying a very slow death because the bank that owned the building wanted to get rid of it. The building now goes by a different name and caters to upscale clientele. River East Plaza is what they call it now.

  • I used to work at the Virtual World Center in Costa Mesa, CA, and these videos were used for training new 'pilots'.

The graphics were amiga based, running off custom rigs that were not as impressive as home PCs, but the 8 player matches (or 4vs4 sitelinks to other stores) were a big draw considering how limited home networks were (and we were all on dialup still).

Thanks for posting this, it really took me back.

  • .....LOL! Hardcore graphics, really freaking scary!

Nah but my wish is they will someday start making Viritual reality games. which will feature. damage. real stuffs like reloading, you name it

  • What the heck is this?

    Was this filmed last century?

  • Yes. The BattleTech Virtualworld stuff was either late 80's or early 90's.

  • Seriously, guys.

Graphics - it's the early 90's, running 8 or 10 units at the same time, no lagging, no delay.

And it wasn't JUST the video game - it was the experience! You didn't just go there to play a game, it was immersive entertainment. You freaking could hang out there alllll dayyyy.

  • Its funny when you think about it, that only 4 years later a computer game came out that easily ran on a 486 without a decent graphics card in it surpassed the graphical capabilities of VWE simulators called Mechwarrior 2. VWE died because home consoles and computers now had 3D games. Not that anyone ever complained about it either, Mechwarrior 2 owned VWE Battletech, too bad NetMech had such a horrid beginning.

  • The latest version of the Tesla OS ( 6.x I think? ) is parallel to Mechwarrior 4 in terms of graphics.... massively better gameplay because you don't have to have all those HUDs coving half the screen ( because you have 4 other displays for that ). I just spent an entire day playing on these suckers last week. It's a damn shame that they aren't successful anymore.

  • yeah, but Mechwarrior 4 graphics are bad by today's standard's as well.

  • Yes it is a shame it's not successful anymore either. On the positive side, the original owners of Battle tech are in control of the rights again.

  • I used to run these at the WOTC Game Center in Seattle; I got SO SICK of this video. Heh.

  • That was a long time ago

  • LOL

  • It is about vurtualworld and there is still one out there with the new pods

  • This is cool and all, but let this be a lesson to anyone trying to pitch an arcade simulator based on a popular title:

Don't fragging hire a producer/writer/director for the promo videos who doesn't know a damned thing about the subjext manner!

Seriously, it was like this was filmed by a five year old who had never seen a giant robot in his life, let alone knew was battletech was... Jeeze... Morons.

  • P.S. The IS names for clan mechs suck.

  • A few aint too bad, The Thor for example.

    The rest mostly suck.

  • Marrying the VWE to Battletech was a horrible idea, I loved the sims but wished they stuck with the original.

  • that was deliberately bad, they actually paid ppl to be that cheesy.... I don't know how much it cost to make but man why would they try so hard to make it garbage?

  • Brilliant.

  • Are there more of these ?

  • LOL at 0:41 the "servers" to the right are only a couple of centimetres thick =p

  • hey, its about the year 3050 ^^

  • This is like embarrassing to watch...

  • It is about vurtualworld that has the game that play with other people.

  • what the hell is this crap?

  • AHHH MY GOD!! NOW WHAT!?

  • Wow... I miss this place! 1993, whoopeeee!!! Anyway, I still have pictures from the place and also the stat sheets at the end that they give you. This is what got me into Battletech/Mechwarrior!

  • ha, i know it's the best they had back then, but i get a kick out of how they use CRTs for the 30xx battletech universe

  • LOL Her boss definently never talked to girls in school.

  • That is a blast from the past alright.

  • Been a while since I've played that....

  • And I am a proud owner of Steel Battalion for the XBOX. Its the closest we can get to the real thing. And there are videos on Youtube that shows what many people are missing out on.

  • i own steel battalion as well and i am so mad that i spent $150 on a game that was so disapointing. Greadt graphics, but they should have just cloned mechwarrior and used the same controler. I hate how there is no location specific damage or critical hits.

  • OMFG! This IS a blast from the past! Hey, Wicced, do you remember Pizza, Pizza! in Chicago? What a way to kill the servers! ;) What a time that was... '91 - ChiCon 5 and BattleTech.

  • I stand corrected. 1993 (as I should have known better being that these are 2.5 3.0 cockpits)

    Thanks Wicced

  • No, thank you, man. This has spawned the most amazing trip down memory lane I have had in years. Dear god but I miss those sites.

  • You and me both. The ex-Costa Mesa techs from Doom Site 13 would make trips to San Diego where someone opened up a place called Vintage VR and we'd hop in the pods like the good old days.

  • Wow, that is more than a flashback. Those were some crazy/fun days. Brings back some long lost names like Ronin, Zephyr, Scarab, Rom and Deadman. Glad to see you are still around Wicced. I hope this message finds you well.

    Dan (Reno) Pasadena VW

  • @Wicced1028 Wicced?????

    No Freaking way!!!!

    I hope you remember me....

I was one of the last 4 number card holders....

    TARDIS...

I hope everything is good with you...

Yeah, yeah, I know, took me long enough!

  • So.. They let this guy drive a Mad Cat why? I mean, it's bad when he'd fail on a Chamelion..

  • You do know this is from 1991 right?

  • 1993

  • The graphics on this really sucked.

  • That was awful!! I couldn't even finish watching...

  • this is so not battle tech...but if it is these people are nt clannners for sure....clanners hate contractions....lol

  • lol, that was bad =p

  • kaiserpanda: Yes it does. I clearly recognized a Vulture/Mad Dog, Thor/Summoner and both the pilots were using Mad Cats/Timberwolves.

CaptCamping: This was made in the 80s/early 90s. That's why.

  • Geez, what a BITCH, damn where the hell you get this actress?!

  • Holy crap that's aweful. That has nothing to do with Battletech at all! >.<

  • you can do your own vgl today at home for cheap with better graphics.

  • haha i remember playing in those pods (altho the graphics i played with weren't as clunky as tht, maybe a later version) wayy back when..ur callsigns would flash on a an LED dislpay over the pod ur in..after u'll get a de-briefing where everybody would sit a nd watch how the game went..honestly..all they gotta do is re-fit those things with some xbox's and steel battalion...i sense an arcade revival!

  • Lol (:

    That was great.

  • The rookie is Kenny Johnson from "The Shield"

  • As much as I love Battletech this is so incredibly painful to watch.

poor Judge Reinhold, musta been really hard up for cash.

  • omg...the fun-ness of pixelated explosions!

  • wow, how did you get your hands on this? i remember going to VGL to do battletech but that had to be 15 years ago

  • God, I miss the VGL. Ah, the fond memories of drinking a trillion potion on a dare. Got to love the algae. And the all time favorite. Martian football.

  • gold

  • I feel bad, "Isis" actaully sent me one of the original VHS masters for the trainers and barkers and I never got around to sending it back. It now sits on my bookshelf as a reminder of better times for both VWE and the VGL

  • i would like to know why this show was made

frankly i prefer battletech the cartoon "INITIATE ENHANCED OPTICS"

  • It was a training video for the Virtual World BattleTech Centers.

  • Obviously not a VWE Mechjock.

  • Joan Severance? Judge Reinhold? Gedde Watanabe (Long Duk Dong from "16 candles") I was wondering how they scored this cast for this project. Being an old school board game battletech player this was an odd choice for an orientation flick. Don't get me wrong it's shot very well, but they would've connected more with the fans if they stuck to a more accurate battletech plot.

  • Not to mention Martha Hackett from Star Trek Voyager was in here too

  • AHAHAHHAAHAHA!

Good gracious... Gotta love the good ol graphics..
