berserker276 The last living verified veteran of World War I is Florence Green, a British woman who served in the Allied armed forces. The last combat veteran was Claude Choules who served in the British Royal Navy, and died 5 May 2011, aged 110. The last veteran who served in the trenches was Harry Patch who died on 25 July 2009, aged 111. The last Central Powers veteran, Franz Künstler of Austria-Hungary, died on 27 May 2008 at the age of 107.
I watched the documentary on last few veterans of the Great War again - The Last Tommy broadcast by the BBC and I am hoping someone will be able to shed light on the brilliant piece of music that is throughout the film. You can also hear it as the final credits role. It is such a fitting piece of music with the sole violin/viola playing and it enables to stir emotion whilst these brave men recount their sad memories. I look forward to a reply. All the best.
The music comes from Scindler's List my friend, it is a very stirring and emotionally charged piece of music and is I agree a fitting piece of music to honour those brave souls. Thank you for your kind comment. All the best.
Thank you very much. I immediately searched for it upon reading your reply and yes what a brilliant score it is. I wish you the best of health and spirit.
At 108, Claude Choules is the last surviving British veteran of the WW1 (he resides in Australia), along with Canadian, John Babcock and American, Frank Buckles, both109 and US residents.

Thank you you are absolutely correct. However Claude didn't serve in the trenches, if memory serves me correctly he was a seaman.
oldman1915 2 years ago
Claude was indeed a seaman but none the less involved in that terrible war to end wars!!!
