Have you seen Andrei Arlovski throwing hands? Without the gloves, most boxers would be useless. Boxing is a science, NOT a way to fight. There is no such thing as a fair fight. You have to take the win, whatever your opportunities are. If your opponent is a good boxer, he probably will have skinny weak legs and why shouldn't you fight on the ground? It is easier to beat them at a game they can't play. It is all about technique, timing and luck.

You can't quite compare 2 great champions just like that. It's true Tyson wasn't near the performance of Lennox in that match , but it wasn't Lennox's fault that he didn't train , Lennox if I remember right , was 1 year older than Tyson, so age was of no importance tot the equation. the guy with the best hands in the heavyweight division right now is junior dos santos. his hands are nothing special at all, hes got some power tho. but would definitely get eaten up in a boxing match by a top heavyweight boxer, even with some of the shitty caliber of fighters now. take nothing away from JDS, the kids constantly improving and loves boxing, and is a great fighter. hope to see him take the belt

@jeryd2003 Actually the defense against a tackle is called a sprawl. An uppercut is a preemptive strike against a tackle. but once his shoulders are about 6 inches from your torso you wont be able to uppercut. Only a good placed knee would be optional.
MMA is the best for hand to hand combat. And no i dont mean what the use in ufc the cliche mma.
I mean all aspects of any martial art system which are practical like muay thai and krav maga.

And i just like MMA better because of its inclusion of all aspects of fighting, not just your hands. And that old argument about guys wrestling being gay is too outdated. Theres nothing gay about gaining leverage on your opponent that if applied full force can break bones, rip ligaments, make someone unconscious and also in extreme instances ... kill. I have seen Andrei Arlovski and he has absolutely no chin and wouldn't stand a chance against any one of these top, elite HW boxers,
he would not even have a chance against the smaller 5''11, 105 kg David Tua who had a true iron chin and a left hook that would spin Arlovksi's head around like The Exorcist . If you're in a street fight against 3 men Boxing is more effective.. you're going to be able to atleast get many punches in to protect yourself, rather than try grapple 1 guy to the ground

In a street fight you have to be retarded to try to grapple one of three attackers. Every mma fighter knows if their going to get ganged up on they dont start grappling out of no where. Now maybe they might spear one guy for space throw a leg kick at one guy and etc.

There is nothing better than seeing a Boxer throw a beautiful, crisp combination and knocking out his opponent with the intention of doing so.

The US military trains MMA, and lots of jiu jitsu.
The roman military trained pancration which is MMA.

If you were fighting in the street then taking someone or throwing a man to the ground on concrete would be enough to severely hurt them. In such a fight you wouldn't roll about but throw them to the ground while you can then find something to hit them with whilst they're getting up. ... whip an MMA fighter if the fight came down to a fist fight, but boxers are weakest in the clinch and on the street and in a real life or death fight, being able to smother your opponent with your body and or break their bones by throwing them to the ground etc is a very useful and effective skill. If a boxer went into MMA he would probaly lose, if he went on the street he would be hard, but a combination of boxing and something like ju jitsu would be the best!

Have you seen Andrei Arlovski throwing hands? Without the gloves, most boxers would be useless. Boxing is a science, NOT a way to fight. There is no such thing as a fair fight. You have to take the win, whatever your opportunities are. If your opponent is a good boxer, he probably will have skinny weak legs and why shouldn't you fight on the ground? It is easier to beat them at a game they can't play. It is all about technique, timing and luck.

He might be the most underrated heavyweight champ to the general public that we've ever had. I think he's in the top 3 of all-time.
