  • Has anyone tried the Plank Challenges at Konkura.com ? There is a 60 year old woman on there who has managed 25 minutes at the standard Plank position!

  • @KarlMalone

That's right! That program at the site

    AmazingAbs.info

is d real deal. This workout is a lot

fun but most importantly, it works like

a gangbusters. In just a few weeks

under its program, you'll get the shape

    you've always wanted!

  • She's doing it completely wrong, you're supposed to do it in public and stay completely still while laying face down.

  • This is hard to do when you have a cold. -.-

  • might be a dumb question.. does this acually work out your ab muscles and get you more ripped or does it just build endurance?

  • haha i do this almost everyday but i that time passes so slowly like, i plank with the stopwatch on so i know how long i go for, but is there something i can do in the meantime to let the time fly past? ive tried listening to music but it hasnt helped much ):

also what is a good time to do it for if youre a female teen? ive been doing 3minutes

  • @MissShulley Do you mean 3 minutes without stopping? :o I don't think many people can do that, even if they have been doing it a long time. Maybe you aren't doing it right? Or you just have really, really, really strong core muscles.

  • dudes its been plank for as long as ive known. 5 years ago when i was in kenpo they called them planks so its not facebook people tryin to be kool. theres prolly more than one name for things, ever think of that? u guys make me laugh HA

  • ok i tried to do this, only managed 10 seconds and then my head started spinning.....is there something wrong with me?

  • @misuniadziubek

Either your holding breath or your fat or something, get that checked out.Might be something else

  • @asomeman1223 well thats a really f-ing considerate thing to say to a stranger.

  • @misuniadziubek

sorry,i only say the truth,i never said your fat.but You likely are are sense your comment acted offended...

  • @misuniadziubek You probably should discuss this with your GP and get your blood pressure checked. There is also an easier beginner variation where you place your knees on the ground which may be worth looking at. Make sure you go to your GP first though just in case.

  • @funkyironman69 that's really good advice, since then I did go, and i was related to my adrenal glands misfunctioning causing falls in BP. Thanks for your input.

  • I love being 16. Did this for 5 mins a day and already had abs 2 weeks later

  • @nebhuskers923 how much did you weight before this

  • @TheFhrjffe - no this won't help you get an 8 pack. And at 13 I don't feel you need to worry about such a thing.

  • also called elbow and toes idk why people started calling it the plank guess that the stupid facebook people trying to be cool when really they just fucking looking stupid. ooooo look at me i can lay down on shit now i'm cool.

  • @CurtisPenner thank you for the video it was great, but i reallt need your advice!

oke so i'm a 13 year old boy, with a six-pack (nearly eight-pack), and i really wanna get an eight-pack... If i do this 3 times a day for 3 minutes following these steps, will that give me an eight-pack? please respond fast :) - Other peepz knowing what they're talking about can answer - it would be greatly appriciated if some of you answered me

(Oh and before i forget - sorry for the bad grammar, i'm Danish lol)

  • How long should I do this per day

  • @chocolatecokeguy13 10x30 seconds.

  • @chocolatecokeguy13 a minute i knnow cuz rihanna does this for a minnute i saw it on a website of her workouts and girl i look faboo

  • i hear this planking thing is on equal footing of working out the whole abs just like doing squats work out your legs and quads

  • /user/midgettosser666 check this out for the most effective core exercises to try out! you'll get flat abs and a strong core

  • it hurts

  • This hurts just watching

  • This kills

  • This discussion of exercise seems to be suffering from cerebralism.

  • Nice

  • I can only last a min lol, wow 33 minutes? WOW

  • How come when I do this I feel no burn in my stomach? My shoulders begin to burn but I never feel it in my midsection

  • @PickupSavant because the core muscles are POSTURAL slow twitch fiber muscles. this means that they resist fatigue VERY well, as they are responsible for keeping you from collapsing like a ball of mush all day. they are by nature resistant to fatigue. the shoulder area is more of a fast twitch fiber are, which means they are not responsible for continued postural support, but more adapted to fast, sudden, powerful moves. these types of muscle fatigue more easily.

  • ok, someone help me out here....when I do this exercise, the only pressure I feel is on my shoulders holding myself up?....am I doing something wrong??..thanks..

  • @SketchLasVegas

it means you are raising your hip/butt too much, lower it so that your body is in a straight line as shown here.

  • @SketchLasVegas Only advice I can give about proper form for this something not dissimilar to pushup posture. When you do pushups, you are ensuring that your body is nothing more than a lever. The functional difference between planks and pushups is that you are using that lever in a pushup to work your chest muscles, where the work in a plank comes from resisting gravity with your core muscles.

  • i can do this for only 35-40 seconds lol :)

  • The current world record (according to Guiness World Records) for the plank position is 33 minutes and 40 seconds, set in Queensland, Australia on 11 May 2011 by 68 year old Paul Drinan.

  • if you let ur stomach sag doing this its cheating.suck in the stomach and clentch the butt and i guarantee you will only be able to hold for half the time you normally can

  • CHECK OUT THE OFFFICIAL PLANKING SONG FOR THE USA ISWAGGMG YOU SHOULD DO ANOTHER DEMONSTRaTION with our song playing

  • if you feel pain never stop. it doesnt count until it starts to hurt.

  • @nothingcreativenow It depends on the pain. There's the dull muscle ache that tells you you're straining your muscles in a way that will strengthen them, and there's the much sharper pain of a pulled muscle, sprain, or similar injury.

  • @nothingcreativenow They mean lower back pain, it can injure your back if done stupidly

  • johnny* hey plank what you wachin?

  • Real life planking! :-D

    /watch?v=wKml9Dczj_A

  • @initiativeX lol, getting a bit sensitive are we?

  • @TrumpetGuy6 I think what you're referring to is the "can't support my own body weight" position. =P

  • @initiativeX I think he was taking the piss tbh...calm down

  • @TrumpetGuy6 ...retard.

  • i did her :) oh yaaaaa yaaaaa

  • you spelt straight wrong in the vid btw

  • I did this but only my arms hurt

  • MILF.

  • @oVelocityGaming You didn't even see her face! LOL ^^

  • my dad called me this morning and told me this exercise FIXED his aching back lol

  • How long is recommended? 1 minute?

  • is this good for flat abs?

  • it's so sad that this is what i get when i look for Plank's constant

  • @andreirocks1992 Because you misspelled planck

  • @Georgenhoff well.. yeah, but still :)

  • @Georgenhoff *plank

  • @andytomas07 That's how the original guy spelled it. When you're talking about Max Planck the physicist, or his constant, it is Planck, not plank.

  • @andreirocks1992 Yea, especially when the video's called "Ab Exercises: The Plank."

  • question: how can you tell when your body is straight. also, how long and how often should i do this?

  • @downlowprohofosho mirror

  • yea um i fail at doing this. lol

  • i lasted 5:45 seconds, ;D

  • @FlySpray61 You mean. 5 minutes and 45 seconds..

  • @IamJigle haha yes, but i have improved it now to 10 minutes :)

  • this is pretty much the only exercise tht will guarantee a half decent 6 pack over time :)

  • I need an exercise that is good for your all round core-strength, ie. abs, lower back and hip muscles. Is this the best one?!

  • geez @ the warning at the end. who knew this would be the thing to kill me LOL :(

  • I started out at like 10 seconds and i was having trouble but i've been doing it every other night for the past couple weeks and improving. Right now i'm at 2 minutes but during the exercise my lower back starts to hurt and i want to stretch it out but at the same time i don't want to stop the exercise. What should i do

  • @Seyoum14 maybe you should stretch your back beforehand, and reduce the time you're doing the exercise, unless it's just the muscles, in which case, they should get stronger over time :P

  • -holds breath while doing this-

  • OMG I did this for about 30 seconds TWO DAYS AGO and my abs are STILL sore! lol

  • Great job!!! :)

    theabstand*net

  • oh is it bad if you do it too long? 1 and a half years ago, when i was 11. I did it for the first time, and i got 5:00 :D

  • There is now an online Plank Contest at Konkura.com

  • @GIocks my rugby coach made us run to one end of the field and hold it for 1 min, then back and hold it for 1 min 10 times. god it sucked

  • @GIocks what i do is try and hold it for a minute (NOT EASY) and then once i can comfortably reach 1 minute, add 10 or so seconds to it and just keep adding as you get stronger at it.

  • how long should i do this? how many sets?

  • What muscle groups get trained by this exercise? You didnt mention it at all :(

  • Hey nice vid but have a bit of a worry.

Tried out the side plank for 3 sets and I left with a horrible pain at the front of my shoulder - lateral to the pectoral region above my armpit. It's painful when swinging my arm backwards e.g when walking and doin any rowing movements,

    any suggestions?

  • i do these for 45 seconds in 3 sets during my workout :D

  • Holding the plank can never be harmful if you do it right... the form shown here is crap for example.

Most people do it wrong for some reason, can't explain why.

  • AhHa the plank we had to do these in P.E. as a warm up AND a punishment the warm ups were 3 for 10 seconds but for the punishments we had to do this for 5 minuets and a wall sit for about the same time

  • when i do this what happens after a couple od minutes is that my abs are so tense i can't really breathe and have to stop

  • my problem is getting to the correct plank position - and sometimes i feel i am working my arms and shoulders more than my core while doing planks.

  • same

  • I'm a swimmer in college, the first time i tried this i held it for 14 minutes so i win

  • @loxspliff1 Yea you win a one way trip to back problems later on in life

  • @SleepinDevilX i doubt it

  • @loxspliff1 Damn! my longest is 3 minutes! ;p;

  • Search "Exercise Program" on Krustbox (dot) com

  • Thanks

  • iv been doing this for bout a month along side sevel other core and obliqu ecsercices but the plank seems to feel redunt now i cant feel it.

  • So that means it worked right? Maybe try putting more weight on your back or something.

  • That wouldn't be good on your back.

  • you're supposed to keep your back straight... but it is not a good excercise for people who already have back or spinal cord injuries.... also this is not really the full Plank. The Full Plank involves leg lefts in addition to what is mentioned here.

  • @chado2423

idk if you were thinking i was talking about the vid or not, but i was mentioning to some dude who said to put weights on your back. I don't think that would be effective.

  • @BrokenPiecesOfHeart... yes I was talking about the video. But I do second you. Adding weight is supposed to increase resistence... however, adding weight to one's back can increase the likelihood of back injury or pain. If a person finds it necessary to include resistence to their back during this excercise it would be more benficial for them to add more repetitions rather than actual real weight in order to decrease the likelihood of injury.

  • How long should a beginner, intermediate, and expert be able to hold it? I'm in decent shape, tried it for the first time and made it just over a minute.

  • @rudysmustache for beginner do it for like 60 to 90 secs if you get better hold it for 2 to 4 minutes if you want to be even better try 5 minutes and up

  • Strength Training: As long as you can

Toning and trim abs: 20 to 60 seconds

When I was doing amateur boxing we would do about 5 reps for 5 minutes each, helps out when a big guy throws a hard punch right into your gut.

  • thanks

  • @Sorkijan I think i'll blackout just doing 1 rep :)

  • @rudysmustache Athletes should be able to hold it for five minutes. Should give you an idea.

  • when I do this, my arms(deltoids) give out before my abs, what do I do?

  • sounds like you need to add some more pushups into your routine :)

  • work your ams (deltoids)

    surely that isn't obvious?

  • Keep going. Shows you need to work your shoulders. Eventually your shoulders will develop so that they can hold you in the plank

  • @bati555: Same thing happens to me...

  • @bati555

    work on your deltoids

  • @bati555 me too, i can't hold myself for too long

  • @bati555 that's mostly the case, The plank puts a lot of pressure on your arms, but however isn't making your arms stronger, its more difficult to keep your arms steady, but it does in fact give you some strong abs

  • @bati555 Sounds like you need to do a few pushups!

  • hiyaa Ellie :D well..this video ...is a disgrace to everyone who is lazy or has a JV 4 hour class tommorow at sunshine..we have to do this for like 4 minuetes... *tear in eye* ...sorry im sooo hyper yeh so ill get negative comments but ohh weelll :L and btw ...KEEP YOUR STOMACHE BUTTOCKS AND LEGS TIGHT DURING THE EXCERSIZE

  • So...I'm trying to develop a 6 pack. If I eat right, jog, and do this every day for as long as I can, well I eventually grow into one?

  • mix up your exercise routine. bicycle crunches are one of the best ab workouts as they work the obliques and abdominals. you won't get a six pack without oblique workouts. you also won't get a six pack if your body fat is too high. doing cardio and eating healthy are the first step.

  • Do some good cardio (jogging for example) every day, eat 5-6 smaller meals a day (rather than 3 big ones), do ab excersizes such as leg raisers, planks, side planks... yes, you'll have them eventually. Don't expect a 6 pack in a month though, lol. Once you have one you have to maintain it, too.

  • Basically yeah, But you can't just cut off weight and gain a six pack, you need to work your whole upper torso, try weighlifting and pushups, sit-ups ect, and the plank will help too.

  • you have to add to your regime as plank becomes too easy, just look around for some good excersices :) pallof press can be good, situps on a ball where u basicly lay on the ball, arch ur back all the way back so that it curves over the ball and then just lift ur body up till u crunch the top part of ur pack. I see many people trying to do situps/crunches and instead they just damage their neck and so on by holding hands behind, ball is a better option. U got many other options aswel, look around

  • dont worry about only do it for 2 to 3 minutes that still really good when i started i could only do it for 45 seconds but after 1 year of hard core training i can do a plank for 8 minutes now try takeing short breathes if that makes it easyier or playing music

  • God dammit I can do the plank for only about 2 or 3 minutes but that's because I can't breathe easily. It's really hard for me to breathe deep when doing this excercise. Any help?

  • it is difficult to breathe, thats because your core muscles are constricted throughout. Just take deep breaths, and dont worry, 2 to 3 minutesd is pretty dang good

  • that girl's got a great ass

sorry, i HAD to say that.

  • That "girl" was about 49 years old at the time of this video. :-)

  • Dayum - kudo's even more then.

    Dat ass :[

  • milf

  • @CurtisPenner shes certainly doing something right then, maybe its the planks eh?

  • @CurtisPenner classic hahahaha clasasic *wipes a tear from his face*

  • @CurtisPenner so your saying she can't have a nice ass at the age of 49? Your dumb.

  • @CurtisPenner yikes!

  • @CurtisPenner how long is too long (on average)?

  • @CurtisPenner what a milf!!!!

  • @CurtisPenner Age aint nothing but a number. Id hit while she was in the sagging position.

  • @CurtisPenner Milf! jk.

  • @CurtisPenner 49yo or not ,she looks HOT!

  • @CurtisPenner Well I'm 49 now and wish I had... er. as fit a body as she does. :)

  • @CurtisPenner age aint nothin but a number... :)

  • @CurtisPenner I wouldnt say no!!

  • @CurtisPenner

    ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • Thats my mum!!! lol

  • @xsabbathgamer Great ass? She dont have any ass, man! Which girl you talkin about?

  • @xsabbathgamer

faggot u cant even see her ass.

  • @xsabbathgamer LMAO xD OWNED!!!

  • I heard that holding a plank for too long can be bad for your back?

  • Yes, too long may be bad for your back. But start out slow and keep working at it and before you know it, you'll have a stronger back.

  • so this helpsyour abs or what??

  • I have been practicing this on the wii fit, and I have got better and better at it.

  • Just made it, could hold it for 4 min 20 secs. :D

I improved incredibly fast, while only doing 3 sets a week. :)

  • Oh junk! I forgot to breathe. :-(

  • you must be dead then XD

  • okay just a bit of advice please.

how many times, and for how long for every day would you have to do it for effect?

  • I got 4:45 on this once, this is a great workout

  • This one really does work, its kicks ur butt!

  • This is a good one. I do this for a minute and I feel like I've done 40 situps.

  • I see this and I think,"This is gonna be easy."

Then I actually do it and then I'm thinking,"Oh sh*t."

  • do it for a minute then u'll feel it...do it for 2 mins then u'll really feel it

  • I know.

Thats where the,"Oh sh*t." part comes in.

  • @521182 lmao thats what i was thinking

  • does anyone know if this will make you lose fat?

  • no it won't. Cardio and diet will help you lose fat. Increasing overall muscle mass also helps to burn calories even while you're resting.

  • we do 1 minute planks at school at gym and today my friend timed how long i could do a plank, i pushed myself and got 2 and a half minutes, although i couldve gotten 3 minuted if my muscles werent hurting so bad, i think im doing planks worng though cause only my legs and muscles hurt when i do them not my abs but i keep my body straight what can i b doing wrong?

  • Comment removed

  • rofl ma waffle! "buttocks"!

    wow, we're immature :P

  • I was amazed when I first saw this in Pilates class, I thought so easy,, until that was I tried it,

even harder is with your feet on a wabble board so your feet are not static, your core has to work even harder to keep your level and in line, as for the side plank, ouch! but excellent also!

  • I've seen photos with the arms kept straight (so your body points up). Does that make the exercise easier? Is that a "womans plank"? :)

  • this is harder.....but you have to lay on your stomach with ur hands flat down then push up onto your hands and into the position keeping you whole body in a STRAIGHT line like above otherwise it wont work. x

  • Ah no sorry, I wasn't very clear, I know the one you're talking about and that's way harder, yes.

I'm thinking of the one where you hold your arms straight and vertically to the ground (you're upper body is higher). That should be easier I guess.

  • Good job. That just means you're doing it wrong.

  • wow i never knew this was an ab exercise. i always thot it was for shoulders
