wait...what? I saw it, I missed MOST of it. I'd like to see it again but I wonder how many times do I have to see it to get all of it. I cannot. Alas. Gonna pull up a cartoon.
@ingaman This movie is from 1968. It was done using an optical printer, edited purely on film... Norman McLaren was a genious and pioneer of experimental animation.
Pas de deux is from 1968, so no computer wizardry involved. This must have been created by combining multiple layers of film negative and/or multiple exposure.
I'm proud to say that I met McLaren in 1968 at the Film Board while being privileged to work for a week with the Optical Effects/Animation Dept.& meeting lots of very talented artists! Yes, this has been one of my very favorite films. Thanks for posting it.
This still holds every bit of magic that it did for me the last time I saw it years and years ago. Thank you so much for posting. A poetic expression in 4Dimensions.
I was fortunate enough to have visited him 4 times. (The last time was when he was editing "Narcissus"). He was a wonderful person as well as a wonderful film-maker.
Do you by any chance have Narcissus (1983) by McLaren? I'm missing that one dearly, it would be a bliss if someone could uploid it here. Thanks again.
i love all of NORMAN MCLAREN's work particularly this one. it's very beautiful and poetic. the dance movement transform into graphic picture. juz can say wonderful!

Two hard key lights and ghost trails from iMovie. I don't see what's so special about this. My little brother could make a better video!

How many people actually took part in this? Was it just the two and the rest was computer wizardry? Am I asking you to divulge too much?
It was absolutely beautiful.

you're right - part 2 is definitely the more dynamic of the two. but both are stellar, nonetheless! mclaren was a god.
