I've heard it told several different ways by my parents (I'm not Russian, I'm American, but my parents liked to tell me stories and legends as a child), and I was *scared to death of her* as a kid! That house always got me, as well as the physical description of Baba Yaa herself.

I never thought a fairy tale of my people would become a cartoon like this! the plot wass basically left the same,though :-D Only the girl in the tale did not kill Baba Yaga, she just managed to escape from her - while in another version Baba Yaga told her to go away because the girl was blessed by her mother.

What I like about Baba Yaga is that she will grant you knowledge (besides not eating you) if you show her respect. She is a task-master but with respect she will grant you a boon.

I think that in different fairy tales Baba Yaga is _either_ a foe _or_ a wise advisor, but never both. There is a fairy tale where there are 3 Baba Yaga sisters, 2 of them give advice to the hero, but the 3rd one wants to eat him.

But not really me and a few of my friends were playing walking pretending to be looking for Baba Yaga. LOL. My grandmother, who is a practitioner of Witchcraft, they all called her Baba Yaga so we went to her house and she made us piroszhki :D. Nice baba yaga<3 LOL.
