  • All of us have our favourite singers.

    Brenda Lee

    Shirley Bassey

    Ann Murray

    Patsy Cline

All of these female artists have strong distict voices and very gifted

  • what a voice

  • Elvis sung it for Priscilla, while he was running around on her (and for some reason people think he is in heaven bc he sang a few gospel songs; that doesn't qualify). That is why Elvis' version is so heartfelt; it is not theoretical. It was sadly true. A great artist; a very poor role model, albeit passionate and gifted.

  • seems our comments should be about this song done by Brenda Lee, not fighting over other artists as to how good they are, or aren't. I love this version. RIP Brenda

  • My goddddddddddddd

  • Whoever said ' Elvis was a complete nothing ' should check their one brain cell , it's not working ,

  • I put my hands up on this one and show my complete ignorance.

I did not know Brenda recorded this, way before all the other successful versions of it, as well.

Very similar imo to Dolly Parton songs the way Brenda sings it, true feeling and emotions in her voice.

    A luvly lady.

  • Elvis' version is great, no question about that - simply because its ELVIS ! the King!

but for female, original or not, I love all Brenda's song - its because, she's Brenda Lee the one and only Brenda Lee! Thanks for liking her song folks

  • @bebotski0811 Elvis was a complete nothing

  • @1002anna - Really? Biggest selling recording artist in history (1.5 billion and counting) says you're wrong.

Also a qote from RS's Encyclopedia of Rock: "His (Elvis') legacy is not just his own incredible body of work - it's the entire music industry as we know it today"

  • @AlaCarcuss do you really believe that?? how dumb can one be. for example, Beatles is said to have sold 1 billion records, but the truth is 245 million. record companies are liers

  • her voice is such a release

  • Just looked up Brenda because of xmas, home alone and the like, and will say I never knew Always on my mind was hers. *shame on me* dammit.

Rock on Brenda... Yahoo! \mm/ \mm/

  • one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  • @OmarGudmunds thats for sure well said mate

  • A great song by a great singer your songs can never be bettered, keep on rocking Brenda your voice is unique.

  • no words to describe this song and singer

  • nice to listen to the original version!

  • masterpiece ! ..i mów sobie co chcesz !

  • GREAT SINGER VERY UNDER RATED

  • J'adore la version de Chris De Burgh, mais celle-ci est l'originale.

  • Brenda Lee is in a class all by herself. She's amazing now and always has been.

  • i knew the cover by Willie Nelson, but i love this version.thank you from France

  • Hi desert3347. love this song and love the singer , but in todays downloads 1 million is nothing , check out Shakira's' Waka Waka' ( This Time For Africa ) at 424 million hits and Miley Sirus Party in the U S A 260 million hits. i.m not saying that those songs are better than this just trying to put it in perspective for you . wish this track also had 400 million hits because its as good if not better than others , fingers crossed.

  • @TheNigelc8 who cares about that? don't be a nerd about it

  • @TheNigelc8 Yea Nigelc8, I see that Adele has Millions of Hits. I have noticed that many of the 50 & 60's Music have very few people watching/listening. I attribute it to Age. So many of us Baby Boomers, like myself, are dying & HUGE groups like the "Four Seasons", even "Rolling Stones" have minimum hits on their Biggest selling songs. Generation X is in control now. You've made a good point.

  • country & western music: I understand it now

  • This is magic, c'est magnifique

  • Aww. I was named after her. ^_^

  • pas mal l'interpretation de brenda j'aime egalement l'interpretation d'elvis

  • wau!!! que linda cancion sencilla y hermosa a la vez!! acabo de conocer esta canción por SHAKIRA!! Y SU gran interpretación!!! WAU WAU!!

  • Skomentuję wszystkie Jej piosenki:cudowne, jak cała nasza młodość.Z każdą piosenką związane jakieś wspomnienia, nastrój,przeżycia.Dobrze,że się jeszcze o Niej pamięta.!!!

  • Great that she was the original singer coz I love Brenda Lee and this song she sang is sweet to my ears.

  • usually if the original isn't a big hit, then it's forgotten about it but this song went on to be covered over and over and made into hits by differant artist.

  • i dedicate this song to my friend lewis who i was mean to this morning

  • Willie and Elvis, or anyone for that matter can NOT sing this song like Brenda lee can!

  • Elvis versionisthebest.

  • God, this is so Beautiful.I haven't been here for a few weeks &

I see this song has gone over the "Million" mark.

I like others, didn't know that this is "Brenda's" Song, sung way before

Willie & Elvis. I Love all Versions, but this is the Version that "touches" Me,

    Deep inside My Heart.

  • Brenda Lee , name sake of so many Brenda's born in the 50's... Ti Amo Bella!

  • Love this arrangement. Brenda sounds great!

  • no,the word is die not di-hi

  • Love you so much Brenda Lee.

  • Thanks for sharing

  • How great is Brenda Lee

Can i buy this song on CD ??? (to sound just like this)

  • Spot On..!

  • Comme toujours = rien ne vaut l' original = Bravo Brenda !!

    Jean Pierre (from France)

  • no es mala la version original, pero Elvis hizo la mejor version de todos los tiempos

de este tema, por algo es y sera siempre

    THE KING !!!!

  • Piękne wykonanie!

  • I GREW UP LISTENING TO BRENDA LEE SWEET VOICE. HIGH SCHOOL SOCIALS,A QUICK FEEL THAT LASTED ALL SUMMER LONG, SLOW DANCING TO FLOYD CRAMER S' "LAST DATE". THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, BRENDA,

  • Nice listening to the original version for a change!

  • Since She started to sing like me and that continues today and will remain for me and many others, the only one. YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER IN MY MIND WILL BRENDA LEE. BRENDA ES INCOMPARABLE EN TODAS SUS CANCIONES.

  • Why don't they make a tribute movie about Brenda Lee? That would be awesome! And have her play herself. Hey, Brenda...

  • the best version!

  • I Love "Brenda's" Interpration of Thie Beautiful Sad Song...... A Tear Jerker..........

  • didn´t know the Pet Shop Boys didn´t write this song - but both versions are so different and still great! Thumbs up for both!

  • what a lovely song and a lovely voice. :))

  • Brenda Lee is always on my mind when I hear this song. If I made her feel second best, I'm sorry I was blind. She is always on my mind. She is always on my mind.

  • I've never heard this original recording until now. Its nice but I think it works better (lyrically) as a song sung by a male artist. The Willie Nelson version, in my opinion, is still the best as he just gives it far more depth than Elvis (regardless of his talent) did.

  • This is a good song.

  • "Always on My Mind" is an American country music song by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson originally recorded by Brenda Lee.

Allmusic lists over 300 recorded releases of the song in versions by dozens of performers.[1] The most successful US version was performed by Willie Nelson.

    (Taken from Wikipedia) : )

  • @ThinkingThinable I'm gonna change what is on Wikipedia right now! (as seen on a chapter of The Simpsons)

  • yo, dumbasses. this song belongs to brenda lee. she's not doing a "version", she is the original artist of the song. do a little research will you?

  • @SokSa you are so right, Brenda owns this song and did it her way, and it is beautiful

  • @SokSa Recht haste!!!

  • @doghall67 hahah :) I can't help it. too many dumbasses in one place. bitte.

  • @SokSa - wow but you're full of yourself

  • @fred450611 thank you. I take that as a compliment. being full of oneself is not as bad as being an ignorant douchebag, really. anything else?

  • @SokSa I suppose that depends whether you're full of sh*t or not. But Brenda is great and I enjoy listening to her as often as I am able to.

  • @SokSa Well, she was the first to record it, but it actually BELONGS to Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson - they WROTE it and still hold the rights.

But yeah, she is the original artist that Willie, Elvis & PSB covered...

  • @empath69 I stand corrected. what I meant was that she is the original "singer" and owns in that sense, not the songwriter. thank you for setting it straight empath69

  • @SokSa Thanks, I only just found this today and had no idea that " Little Miss Dynamite" was the original artist .

  • @SokSa except that she didn't write it. It could have been written for anyone at the time. Just happened she was chosen. I did the research.

  • brilliant version nice to here a woman sing it, pulls on the heart strings this song

  • sweet

  • Beautiful voice nice and clear, love this version. Thanks for sharing.

  • la canta super bien, me encanta!!! pa mi la mejor version

  • Esta mujer canta esta canción, mejor que Elvis y Willie Nelson. Amo esta canción.

  • Love old song even I was born in 90's.

  • Узнала об этой певице из радиопрограммы Алексея Кашпура на РСН. До этого никогда о ней не слышала. Потрясающе!!! Сколько нежности и чувственности!

  • no,Elvis in 1972 and brenda lee in 1973

  • beautiful song! ooh and, everyone loves elmo!!!! :D

  • Love it!

  • aaah!...Brenda Lee....on of the greatest artists of all time. A great country singer, a singer in the ealry Rock and Roll, immortalized in a Chuck Berrry Song. She was popular in the UK before the US and actually once toured the UK with the Beatles as her opening act-that's how big she was and always will be.

  • lovingtheoldtunes, you took the words out of my mouth, beautiful

  • Wow! I didn't realize Brenda Lee had the original rendition! Beautiful job.....

  • I came here via Willie's version. I don't think one has to declare for one or the other. It's a very powerful song and each rendition offers a rich experience.

  • Ask anyone in the "know" and they'll swear Willie wrote this one. I heard Elvis' version and now, Brenda's-- they stink compared to Willie's. Who the hell can truthfully wash away their prejudices and stick to believing Elvis and Brenda can touch Willie. I'm NOT a country fan, but I know good renditions when I hear it-- Willie wins hands down. Write what you want-- but you're wrong, wrong, wrong and no amount of bull---- will change that. Look at the stats on Willies sales of the song! Yea

  • @zaputzaput1 Don't you think all these great artists wanted their audiences to appreciate the writers of the songs they performed? I don't think great singers want to be compared to each other. That misses the point of what they're singing about.

  • I love this song

  • This is the original recording of this song written by: Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson.

Popular covers where made by: Willie Nelson, most popular in US and Elvis Presley, most popular in Europe.

  • @KuyaTino Pet Shop Boys' version is the most popular version in Europe. It was a 87 Christmas number one smash it and PSB's most successful single in their catalogue. It is one of their creative anthems in their cannon, and it was chosen as the second best cover of all times by UK Telegraph. Ask one of every two people on the street "what is always on my mind?" and they will say one of PSB's best songs.

  • @harisbaki Mate, you have to be kidding. While I love PSB's version (and Willie's and Brenda's) I think you'll find almost everyone on the planet associates this song with Elvis. One of the (many) Elvis versions on this site has almost 30 Million Hits!! So many in fact they had to disable the comments due to overload - that should tell you something.

  • @AlaCarcuss Don't be that sure. Until PSB covered this song, many young lads were unaware that Elvis performed it. This is not popular one of songs by him. As to why 30 million hits: American singers or singers who are popular in the USA always get the highest hits. It is directly proportional with population. Look at Justin Bieber look at J. Lo disgusting singers but reach 100 million hits because you Americans love those untalented singers very much.

  • @harisbaki

Ok, first of all - I'm not American, I'm Australian and YouTube is International anyway.

Also, FYI: Elvis was and is actually more popular outside America than he is at home.

Lastly, to even insinuate that Elvis was untalented just makes you sound like an idiot.

  • @AlaCarcuss Are you suffering from dysplexia? Who said Elvis was untalented? I just said the number of views does not matter because America's population is huge and whenever an idiot becomes number one in USA, his Youtube videos are automatically watched ten million etc. I just meant that a high number of views does not automatically warrant that what is viewed is of high quality. So you are Australian you are a native speaker of English but you still have problems.

  • @harisbaki (continued from the last message) So you are Australian you are a native speaker of English but you still have problems in understanding. In Europe PSB version is more popular than Elvis version that's a fact. As to Brenda or Willie version, a handful of people should know this song was also performed by them.

  • @AlaCarcuss no, actually most people that I know of that have ever heard Always on my mind, the associate it with PSB. Period. I fucking love music, I know tons of weird obscure facts, and I didn't even know that this wasn't the PSB's original song. I didn't know Elvis sang it, and I'm a fan of his. So no, not almost everyone on the planet associates this with Elvis. There are nearly 7,000,000,000 people on this planet. Most of them know this song from PSB.

  • @Lestat3721 - Well, before I came on here, I certainly never knew PSB recorded it.

Probably a generational thing - Let me rephrase then - almost everyone on the planet over the age of 35 would associate this song with Elvis.

  • @KuyaTino Yeah, because the Pet Shop Boys cover wasn't popular in Europe at all, was it?

  • nice song and version.

  • I've known of this song for a few years now but I had no idea this was the original. =o

  • Scotty Mcreery did the best so far.

  • @jeffrehley Oh, crap. Another one!! McreeryOkay, fella, Dream, dream, dream, dream...

  • Fake Elvis has recorded in 1972 and Brenda lee in 1973,Elvis the first and the more great singer in the world

  • @SanDamonphotographe Brenda Lee recorded it in 1971, Elvis recorded it in 1972 and Willie Nelson about 10 years later.

  • Ashamed to say this is the first time i have heard this version, beautiful just beautiful, shivers down my spine, wow

  • @TheNigelc8 Yep and this is actually the first, original version. Everyone else's is a cover.

  • Beautiful song singing by Brenda..

    Thank You

  • Before Elvis, Willie Nelson & The Pet Shop Boys cover.

    What a fantastic song!

  • this original version is the best.

  • i love this song and version i had ben looking for diferent versions and this is the only 1 i liked :D

  • Brenda, Elvis, & Willie all did credit to these lyrics! John Wesley Ryles gets an honorable mention..

  • she sure is one of a kind. there isn't a singer that could touch her now days.

  • Brenda Lee really could sing in different styles and did it quite successfully. I love this version of the song.

  • Whilst this (Brenda Lee) is the original singers version, clearly the Willie Nelson version with a US no. 1 outshines the others for it's tenderness and emotiveness. The flat, commercial Elvis version (only) rated no. 16 by comparison. Everyone do themselves a favour and check out Willie's performance "The Highwaymen - Willie Nelson - Always On My Mind" while Johnny Cash, Waylon & Kris look on.

The haunting guitar solo is exquisite.

  • Patty Page, Mary Ford, better pitch. Sarah Brightman, Sarah Vaughn, better singers.

    Still, I prefer Brenda.

  • i love you elaine mckenna,gerry

  • Maybe I Baby I didn't Love you quite as good as I should have. Love It!

  • I did not Brenda Lee sang this song before Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson did. Show you how old am I.

  • Les paroles sont si sinceres.

  • Yesterday I read GUIDEPOSTS. I read about Brenda Lee. He is amazing person. Its nice to know that she is a Christian.

  • I like this version too. :D

  • Very lovely woman, love her singing this.

  • My friend Wayne Carson wrote this song way back in the seventies, and I thought it was a great song, and still do. Wayne got a real shot in the arm when Elvis and Willie recorded this. Brenda has a good cut too.

  • TRUE!!! it´s really what happens!!!! you were and are and will on my mind!!This is one of my musicas when I felt in love with you!!!!It´s so beautiful and lovely!!!!

  • you were always on my mind and you will always on my mind <3

  • One can say of Brenda Lee, one of the most romantic of romantic singers. Splendid! Thank You

  • wahnsinns Song von einer unvergessenen Sängerin !

  • que porra é essa kk

  • elvis is the best

  • LAS PEQUEÑAS COSAS QUE DEBÍA DECIR Y HACER

YO SIMPLEMENTE NO ME TOMÉ EL TIEMPO PARA HACERLAS (pero) SIEMPRE ESTUVISTE EN MI MENTE

    -memorable tema- melódica voz.

  • I really like her voice, but I don't like her version of this song (my favorite version is Willie Nelson's). She makes it sound too much like a happy song.

  • Tal vez no te he tratado Tan bien como debería, Tal vez no te he amado

Tanto como debería, Cosas pequeñas que tendría que haber dicho y hecho

Simplemente nunca me tomé el tiempo...Siempre estuviste en mi mente

    Siempre estuviste en mi mente...

  • Brenda dear dear BRENDA how wonderful to hear your beautiful voice you were such an inspiration to me when I was younger I was about the same age as you however I had been singing from the age of six when you came on the scene. I know it sounds as though I am writing to Brenda and I am also to the wonderful EBK who uploaded this and allowed many people maybe who never experienced the velvet voice of Brenda Lee as she was only fourteen I believe when she cut her first record. GOD BLESS YOU. Hugs

  • Au contraire!! Brenda's release was before Elvis BUT it was NOT the first released 45 of this song. Gwen McCrae released this in Jan. 1972, several months before Brenda's 45. Not to hijack thread but I've uploaded Gwen's version.

Brenda's version really is a nice tune.

  • Forever always. Susan Robin Roth, i love you.

  • tell me ur sweet love has not died....

  • little things i should have said and done...

you are always on my mind...

  • And life goes on

  • Maybe it's the influence of Elvis and Willie Nelson's more famous recordings of the songs, but I've always heard this as a song sung by a man to a woman. To hear Brenda Lee's version as the *original*, with a woman singing it to a man, is a revelation.

  • Always on My Mind"

Written by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson

    Published 1972

    Original artist Brenda Lee

Recorded by Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Pet Shop Boys, B.B. King, Michael Bublé, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, Erlend Øye, among others

Performed by Shakira at the 2002 VH1 Divas: Las Vegas

  • Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson composed the song and Brenda performed it first and best!

  • this song is originally recorded by Brenda Lee .

  • powerful vioce, clear and sharp, thanks for posting.

  • Just don't get the feel like I do with Nelson.

  • One of my funeral songs ...beyond doubt. Thanx to poster to keep that art alive!

  • To też dla ciebie wśród pozostałych utworów ode mnie...

  • Have always loved this song. While Willie Nelson had the biggest hit recording

of the song ---Brenda did an outstanding version of it. Thumbs up!

  • @Fegen Elvis' version is best

  • @Fegen.. let's not forget elvis and the pet shop boys versions, they both were good too..

  • oh nooo...this song always makes me cry :( doesn't matter who's the singer...full of emotions...

  • Brenda Lee was one of the most popular singers in my

    youth in Germany

    Thank you very much!!!

  • Wouldn't it have been wonderful if Elvis had lived beyond the controlling Colonel and stayed healthy. What a great duet this could have been. Even better than Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers!

  • @leitros yuh, wldn't it have been nice. what a loss.

  • Chuck Norris is furious of 27 people

  • thanks for posting. love it

  • Me ancanta esta, y casi todas las canciones de Brenda Lee. Me recuerda mis años jovenes. Todas sus canciones era melancolicas. Carmen

  • A 60 anos atrás se ouvia BRENDA LEE , hoje em dia se escuta JUSTIM BIEBER, ai que triste

  • Tho' Brenda Lee recorded this a few weeks before Elvis. I thought Mark James,

Johnny Christopher and Wayne Carson wrote this for Elvis. The last time I checked, Willie Nelson had the biggest hit on this song. Thank you.

  • Of course all versions of this song are good,

    that's because it's a great song.

Most singers can sing a great song -

BUT, NO SINGER CAN SAVE A BAD SONG. Thanks for postin'.

  • O execuţie bună !

  • I like this version, is the first i listen to

but the slackers version sounds a little good to me.

  • This is who my mother Alice White said she named me after, i love it, Brenda Battle Jordan.

  • brenda con una de las mejores canciones de elvis presley
