Janet is in this video of course. She's in the limo and she's also the shadow. The joke is that she's everywhere, but doesn't make the appearance on stage. It adds a certain mystique to her. Good concept.
Also for the people that may piuggy-back off "lilka913", James "Jimmy Jam" harris III & Terry Lewis were from The Time. They played with Prince way back in the day and produced for Human League, Alexander O'Neal, Madonna, and a shit-load of others. they stated that they like to take artists that have bad albums and make thm batter. They did so with Janet & New Edition (when Johnny Gill joined). Not taking from janet, but she doen't deserve ALL the credit.
@afrosensuous I WAS JUST SAYING THAT YOU SAID THAT WITHOUT THEM JANET WILL BE GARBAGE AND I DISAGREE BECAUSE SHE HAS MORE TALENT THAN LATOYA IF NOT IN MUSIC SHE WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ELSE
@lilka913...I admit she has toins and tons of talent. She went to the same Jr High as I did, so I was able to see her talents while she was still filming Good Times. In an interview with Jam/Lewis/Jackson, the stated her albums vefore control was way below par, so they took on the task of fitting her with the right chemistry, so she helped their careers as well. However, had someone else grab a hold of her, she would not have done as great. That's all I'm saying. They all blessed each other
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis did te shit outta Janet's music. had she had any other producers/writers, she woulda been in the same box as LaToya....GARBAGE!!!
@lilka913...First of all, it's called "co-wrote". Secondly, the album "Control" was her third album and the first collab between Jam & Lewis. I merely stated that Jam & Lewis boosted her career. Her 1st album had multiple producers and the album didn't do well. Her 2nd album did a little better, but not that good. "Making Love In The Rain" was not sung by Janet, but Jam & Lewis wrote it and produced the music. It gave us real listeners a chance to hear the music behind the singer.
whatever judgement you use on anyone you will get it back but much worse stop judging people your lives can't be better than hers everyone goes threw something some people are delusional and believe they are perfect and live a saintly life you can easily hide your hiedeous face and body behind words on youtube take a look at yourself look at the plank in your own eyes and remove it. losers and hater on youtube thats all.
nah, janet wasn't in the video. can u believe it? i like the other "unsung" song janet did called 'making love in the rain.' i dont believe she did a video for that one either.
@DancingSpiderman Herb Alpert said in an interview years ago that after paying so much for Janet to be on the song, he couldn't afford her for the video. The woman in the limo is a look-a-like.
@DancingSpiderman Oh, that titty was priceless! Nah, but for real...between 1986 thru 1991, Janet's popularity reached a level that it will never see again. Her and her brother were literally on top of the world! The titty was a cheap publicity stunt for her to get back on top again, hence her sharing the stage with a more current and popular act like Justin Timberlake.
Michael and Janet each recorded some songs that'll outlive History. I'm surprised that sister Rebbie didn't come out with more hits besides that single one, "Centipede". THAT was a ol skoo jamm if there ever was one.
I also noticed back in the 80-90's , quite a few songs were sung by a famous singer who didn't get label credit.
@DancingSpiderman In case you didn't know, this video clip of "Diamonds" is edited. About 2 and a half minutes of funny dialogue is missing from the beginning. The full version is also on YouTube, it's about 7 minutes long.
the girl was on a show called puttin on the hits and she was doing what have you done for me lately by janet jackson and she won the whole thing, and they saw her on the show and put her in the video
@AshleyOPHS456 i believe the song you're referring to is "miss you much" off her Rhythm Nation 1814 album. MYM went to #1 in the spring/summer of '89.
This was actually originally written and recorded for The Human League for their Crash album (which Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were producers on), but the head of A&M Records at the time loved the record so much that he felt that Jam & Lewis should keep it for the future. They chose to put it on Herb Alpert's album and Janet loved the song so much that she wanted to sing on it and the rest is history.
Because she's only a guest vocalist, this is technically Herb Alpert's song. Plus, she was probably busy with her own music she was doing at the time.
For those of you looking for this song, it is on Janet's New Number 1's album but you have to buy the whole thing to get it. It's worth it since everything is a hit there!
The song is actually a Herb Alpert song, featuring Janet, that's why it's not on any of her albums, it's on one of his albums.
I remember MTV played the heck out of this during the summer of 1987 after I graduated high school! Now what does MTV play? Oh yeah, no music videos!
I think it's a lie too. "Diamonds" came out the summer after all of Control's albums hits fell off the charts...and she had lost tons of weight by then(as evidenced in the pleasure principle video) her last of songs to chart on the "Control" album. I even remember my dad saying "whoa, she's slimmed down quite a bit" As for the whole pregnancy thing, I had heard she aborted James DeBarge's child but I think that was before Control was put out. Janet wrote this album based on her divorce.
actually the control album was still on the charts way up til 1988. with will you be mine and pleasure principle being the last of the hits. this single was out in 87
Those two weirdos at the end are comedien/actor T.K. Carter & Jerome Benton, Morris Day's side kick from Morris Day & The Time. They were just acting silly, that's all. Lol.
hmmm...diammonds are nice. I like shoes!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL - I love you mmy Mmmichael! You are mmmy best friend, lover, husband. Ik hou van jou, mmy sweet yummie love.
If not on itunes...it is on Janet's "Design Of A Decade import only..or on Herb Alperts last greatest hits CD along with "Making Love In The Rain" featuring Lisa Keith in the lead, and Janet doing background vocals.
If I remember correctly, Herb Alpert was the chief at A&M records, Janet's label (notice the trumpet in the logo...) and he asked her to sing in this. First she declined, then she agreed but not to a video appearance. The song turned out so good that they had a compromise when she made this sort of an 'appearance'. That's what I recall....correctly or incorrectly.
OMG!!! I heard this song for the first time in ages yesterday. Can't get it out of my head. Definitely one of Janet's best performances. Thanks for uploading.
This song never dates. Some twenty-somethings heard me play it in the office and loved it! iTunes available. Pop music today is awful with exception of a few artists.
Janet needs to bring out an album that showcases her more full and forceful voice like on this song. I gaurantee that she would make a BIG comeback because we are tired of the whispering and wimpering that she's been doing for over twenty years!
omg, I agree! I liked Janet earlier, before she started doing the stupid giggles on every album and whispering. Janet, I love you but you need to come up with a new formula.
I heard this at my friend's house yesterday and I said "wait a minute, I never heard this and it is FUNKY!!!" lol. A collaboration with Janet and The Time would of been sooooo hot!!
