  • Who's the little girl imitating Janet?

  • Janet is in this video of course. She's in the limo and she's also the shadow. The joke is that she's everywhere, but doesn't make the appearance on stage. It adds a certain mystique to her. Good concept.

  • @carycomic1 That's Jerome, but that isn't Kadeem.

    I can't recall the actor/comedian's name. Sorry.

  • I loved this era. She did not look like a clone of her brother, Michael at this time.

  • this is the janet i remember...

  • the little girl in the video toward the end is janet's niece one of her brothers daughters.

  • love the song,to bad Jan was never in this video. I think the song would have done even better

  • this my favorite song why cus i do love diamonds, its true diamonds are a girls' bestfriend

  • TOO AWESOME!

  • Wow! The Bunny Hop, It Had To Be The 80's!

  • Wow I forgot about this song!

  • wow I forgat about this sound.

  • you can not even put Janet and Latoya in the same sentence, sorry.

  • Herbie came a long way since his days with the Tiajuana Brass. Plus, it didn't hurt to have Janet Jackson on lead vocals in 1987.

  • I haven't heard this song in a LONG ASS time!! Still as hot as I remember!!

  • it is titled by Herb Alpert with Janet Jackson, Herb Alpert is the "A" in A&M Records, So of it was released on A&M records, Hard one to find.......

  • Also for the people that may piuggy-back off "lilka913", James "Jimmy Jam" harris III & Terry Lewis were from The Time. They played with Prince way back in the day and produced for Human League, Alexander O'Neal, Madonna, and a shit-load of others. they stated that they like to take artists that have bad albums and make thm batter. They did so with Janet & New Edition (when Johnny Gill joined). Not taking from janet, but she doen't deserve ALL the credit.

  • @afrosensuous You are right on everything- except one thing...Jam & Lewis never worked with Madonna.

  • @afrosensuous I WAS JUST SAYING THAT YOU SAID THAT WITHOUT THEM JANET WILL BE GARBAGE AND I DISAGREE BECAUSE SHE HAS MORE TALENT THAN LATOYA IF NOT IN MUSIC SHE WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ELSE

  • @lilka913...I admit she has toins and tons of talent. She went to the same Jr High as I did, so I was able to see her talents while she was still filming Good Times. In an interview with Jam/Lewis/Jackson, the stated her albums vefore control was way below par, so they took on the task of fitting her with the right chemistry, so she helped their careers as well. However, had someone else grab a hold of her, she would not have done as great. That's all I'm saying. They all blessed each other

  • i didnt know they mAde a video to this song that barely see Janet in

  • Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis did te shit outta Janet's music. had she had any other producers/writers, she woulda been in the same box as LaToya....GARBAGE!!!

  • @afrosensuous janet co produced and write or co writed so without janet no tery and jimmy do research before speakin

  • @lilka913...First of all, it's called "co-wrote". Secondly, the album "Control" was her third album and the first collab between Jam & Lewis. I merely stated that Jam & Lewis boosted her career. Her 1st album had multiple producers and the album didn't do well. Her 2nd album did a little better, but not that good. "Making Love In The Rain" was not sung by Janet, but Jam & Lewis wrote it and produced the music. It gave us real listeners a chance to hear the music behind the singer.

  • @afrosensuous "Making Love in the Rain" was sung by Lisa Keith, but Janet WAS singing background on that track.

  • Two great performers, love it.

  • Still going strong for a whole new generation, thats TALENT, A true ARTIST! GO JANET.

  • Luv this!

  • Its Herb Alpert ft. Janet Jackson not J. Jackson ft. H. Alpert.

  • Love the little Janet at the end....LOL

  • whatever judgement you use on anyone you will get it back but much worse stop judging people your lives can't be better than hers everyone goes threw something some people are delusional and believe they are perfect and live a saintly life you can easily hide your hiedeous face and body behind words on youtube take a look at yourself look at the plank in your own eyes and remove it. losers and hater on youtube thats all.

  • Herb Alpert is the coolest guy on the planet!

My dad listened to Herb when he was with the Tijuana Brass. Herb transformed with the times to become Ulta cool with a whole new generation!

  • janet and herb had it going on shows how much class she has in picking her go to guy in this jam

  • nah, janet wasn't in the video. can u believe it? i like the other "unsung" song janet did called 'making love in the rain.' i dont believe she did a video for that one either.

  • so, WHERE IS Janet in this video?!? She's not even in her own vid.

This musta been flimed during her fat phase.

You guys are right, this IS a great tune, nice and wit a beat.

  • @DancingSpiderman Herb Alpert said in an interview years ago that after paying so much for Janet to be on the song, he couldn't afford her for the video. The woman in the limo is a look-a-like.

  • @RockytheBear That gets me wondering now... how much was Janet's SuperBowl tittie worth?

  • @DancingSpiderman Oh, that titty was priceless! Nah, but for real...between 1986 thru 1991, Janet's popularity reached a level that it will never see again. Her and her brother were literally on top of the world! The titty was a cheap publicity stunt for her to get back on top again, hence her sharing the stage with a more current and popular act like Justin Timberlake.

  • @RockytheBear Yep totally gree.

Michael and Janet each recorded some songs that'll outlive History. I'm surprised that sister Rebbie didn't come out with more hits besides that single one, "Centipede". THAT was a ol skoo jamm if there ever was one.

I also noticed back in the 80-90's , quite a few songs were sung by a famous singer who didn't get label credit.

  • @DancingSpiderman Hey Rocky , have you seen the great intentional nipple slip in the music video Sabrina Salerno Boys Boys Boys ?

1 Sabrina Salerno nipple slip = 4 Janet Jackson nipple slips = 3 Sophie Marceau nipple slips

  • @DancingSpiderman In case you didn't know, this video clip of "Diamonds" is edited. About 2 and a half minutes of funny dialogue is missing from the beginning. The full version is also on YouTube, it's about 7 minutes long.

  • @RockytheBear Thanks, bro... I'll check it out

  • This song was in the top 10 in the world charts in 1987

  • OMG i first heard this in the car with my mom!!!

  • And I thought money was a girls best friend! LOL

  • i remember this song!!!

  • Brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for posting.

  • 1987

  • janet had people crying over her in the 80's and 90's!

  • I was 4 years old when the video came out. This is one of my favorite Herb Alpert's songs. I would like to know who is that little girl in the video.

  • the girl was on a show called puttin on the hits and she was doing what have you done for me lately by janet jackson and she won the whole thing, and they saw her on the show and put her in the video

  • can someone please tell me the song where she says "is that the end?"

  • @AshleyOPHS456 Miss You Much

  • "Miss You Much"

  • I think, you're referring to 'Miss You Much' from 'Rhythm Nation' era... She says '... that's the end?!' at the very end of that song.

  • @AshleyOPHS456 i believe the song you're referring to is "miss you much" off her Rhythm Nation 1814 album. MYM went to #1 in the spring/summer of '89.

  • how could you not know that man its miss you much wen at the end she says is that the end but in the video its not the end its a extra dance

  • JEROME!!!

  • This was actually originally written and recorded for The Human League for their Crash album (which Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were producers on), but the head of A&M Records at the time loved the record so much that he felt that Jam & Lewis should keep it for the future. They chose to put it on Herb Alpert's album and Janet loved the song so much that she wanted to sing on it and the rest is history.

  • Janet didn`t show her whole body in this video becus at the time she was really fat.

  • why doesn't janet show her face, she is basically singing the whole song. but i still love this song anyway

  • because janet was sick, she wasn't in the video at all that was a look alike

  • well that makes sense, well they could've made the video another time

  • cause she is not in the video i think..

  • Because she's only a guest vocalist, this is technically Herb Alpert's song. Plus, she was probably busy with her own music she was doing at the time.

  • For those of you looking for this song, it is on Janet's New Number 1's album but you have to buy the whole thing to get it. It's worth it since everything is a hit there!

The song is actually a Herb Alpert song, featuring Janet, that's why it's not on any of her albums, it's on one of his albums.

I remember MTV played the heck out of this during the summer of 1987 after I graduated high school! Now what does MTV play? Oh yeah, no music videos!

  • I can agree about what you said about MTV. Where are the videos?

  • That's why I don't watch it anymore, wasnt it Music Television? now it's not

  • lol.....true it was.

  • I've been trying to find this song for the longest. I really need to get her greatest hits album if this song is on their.

  • the song is on there.

  • Alright thanks.

  • theres an album out now called janet jackson the best and this song is on there

  • I remember this...

    So nostalgic !

    Janet rocks the 80's

    Love her even til today!

  • That is a dumbass lie.

  • I think it's a lie too. "Diamonds" came out the summer after all of Control's albums hits fell off the charts...and she had lost tons of weight by then(as evidenced in the pleasure principle video) her last of songs to chart on the "Control" album. I even remember my dad saying "whoa, she's slimmed down quite a bit" As for the whole pregnancy thing, I had heard she aborted James DeBarge's child but I think that was before Control was put out. Janet wrote this album based on her divorce.

  • actually the control album was still on the charts way up til 1988. with will you be mine and pleasure principle being the last of the hits. this single was out in 87

  • i remember my mom playing this when i was 3 or 4 ,i forgot all about this song

  • i remember this one. great jam from the 80s. janet was on a roll.

  • Wow I remember this song when I was a kid. I never realized it was Janet Jackson.

  • This is gonna be on Janet's new greatest hits CD...I never even heard of this before

  • i don't think that's janet in the liumo. who is the little girl that plasys janet in the club. did tk cartr appear in punky brewster?

  • that is soo not janet in the beginning!

  • i heard dis song b4. dats hot

  • This is a hot jam, luv it

    Go Ms Jackson :)

  • Diamonds are guy's best friend too....

  • LOL!

  • Cool song, cool video! Um, what's with the 2 weirdos at the end?

  • you gotta see the entire 6 min video, they're in the beginning

  • Ah, thanks for filling me in :--)

  • one was Jimmy Jam

  • Those two weirdos at the end are comedien/actor T.K. Carter & Jerome Benton, Morris Day's side kick from Morris Day & The Time. They were just acting silly, that's all. Lol.

  • Thats jerome from morris day crew

  • @sussiQiu The Two Urkels, doing the Bunny Dance

  • hmmm...diammonds are nice. I like shoes!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL - I love you mmy Mmmichael! You are mmmy best friend, lover, husband. Ik hou van jou, mmy sweet yummie love.

  • 80's cheese..I love it! The little "Janet" was so cute!

  • This great song reached #5 in 1987. (Billboard, U.S.)

  • Love it!

  • Lol, that girl's like over 30 now.

  • great song, it should be more famous

  • it was in Europe where the radio stations play the good stuff

  • If not on itunes...it is on Janet's "Design Of A Decade import only..or on Herb Alperts last greatest hits CD along with "Making Love In The Rain" featuring Lisa Keith in the lead, and Janet doing background vocals.

  • Heard this song recently on the radio for the first time in over ten years.

  • yeah this is one of janet 's best but where is she in the video

  • Body double =(

  • She isn't in ti. It says so on Wikipedia.

  • Yes she is, in a silhouette (2.40).

  • Really?..okay. :-)

  • If I remember correctly, Herb Alpert was the chief at A&M records, Janet's label (notice the trumpet in the logo...) and he asked her to sing in this. First she declined, then she agreed but not to a video appearance. The song turned out so good that they had a compromise when she made this sort of an 'appearance'. That's what I recall....correctly or incorrectly.

  • This is one of Janet's most-forgotten songs, but it shouldn't be.

  • OMG!!! I heard this song for the first time in ages yesterday. Can't get it out of my head. Definitely one of Janet's best performances. Thanks for uploading.

  • This song never dates. Some twenty-somethings heard me play it in the office and loved it! iTunes available. Pop music today is awful with exception of a few artists.

  • Hi Oliver. Tried to find in iTunes under Herb Alpert or Janet Jackson. No luck. Help!

    Thanks

  • I miss videos! WTF...MTV!?????

  • uhh...Jerome!

  • Herb Alpert is KICK ASS!! This song is on his album... listen to "pillow" killer!

  • The whole album is just incredible from start for finish.

  • very true!

  • "You gave me some candy, it melted. Nice Try..."

Best line of the song!! XD

  • I was lucky enough to find a used copy of this CD(still in great condition). Love it!

  • and i used to pretend i was the little girl in the video.

  • this has to be one of my fave songs i still sing it!

  • Wow, this takes me back to being 11 years old! haha!! I loved this song back then.....and makes me realize how long Janet has been in the business!

  • why is the video so choppy?

  • my guess, low framerate when encoded

  • Janet needs to bring out an album that showcases her more full and forceful voice like on this song. I gaurantee that she would make a BIG comeback because we are tired of the whispering and wimpering that she's been doing for over twenty years!

  • omg, I agree! I liked Janet earlier, before she started doing the stupid giggles on every album and whispering. Janet, I love you but you need to come up with a new formula.

  • 3:23-3:50 is the best part...

  • i love itttttttttttttttt like duh its the bomb janet like duh u k its hot

  • I wonder why Janet wasn't in the video. Maybe she was ashamed of the 'Material Girl' theme?

  • she had another obligation

  • I believe she had the flu.

  • Jerome hes so funny where morris lol!!!

  • man this song takes me back to my childhood. what is this 86ish?

  • 87ish

  • Album was 1987, I think it reached the charts in 10/1987.

  • This song and Making Love in the rain are my favorite songs by Herb Alpert.

  • I heard this at my friend's house yesterday and I said "wait a minute, I never heard this and it is FUNKY!!!" lol. A collaboration with Janet and The Time would of been sooooo hot!!

  • JIMMY JAM & TERRY LEWIS CLASSIC!

  • I wonder...is the little girl in this video now a famous actor???

  • Straight up club classic !!

  • JEROOOME! ;P

  • why wasnt i born back then? music was MUSIC and not crappy like nowadays!

  • Thank you for memories.

  • This takes me back to 6th grade!!! haha!! I loved this song back then...still do!

  • I like thisss

  • The Legend of Herb Alpert featuring Janet Jackson...........This is still the joint.

  • Now this was a tune!

  • Janet was sick or something that's why she was not in the video..I remember her saying something like that on MTV

  • OMG..I haven't seen this in 20 years!!

  • I love this song and the video is ok and is an excellent example of the time period, however, the end of the video... I don't like the little girl. I guess they thought it was cute? WTF would a little girl be in an adult night club?

  • whatever happend to herb albert is he alive still?

  • Yeah Herb Alpert still alive. He and Janet Jackson did a good job with the song Diamonds. It had a nice funky beat.

  • Oh my God. I forgot about this song!

    Herb was gettin' down!

  • This is just like Diamonds and Pearls By Prince and the New Power Generation in a way. Both songs mention diamonds. So it has to mean something.

  • WHERE THE BEGINING OF IT

  • Great song!

  • because mariah fans know that she is nothing when compared to Janet Jackson. Janet survives on talent. mariah needs payola to survive.

  • Mariah is the superior singer.

  • Never underestimate the talent of Miss Jackson ! Mariah is an egomaniac !

  • pause @ 0:50 scary lol

  • what year is this from??

  • 1987

  • ok thanks

  • My god this makes me feel 15yrs old again.

  • This reminded me of my childhood and how much I love Janet. I can't wait to see her on the Rock Witchu Tour!

  • U got dat VIDEO??

    I GOT DA VIDEO TAYPEEE!

  • then why hasn't herb alpert had a hit since this one? and it was Janet that made this a hit.

  • You asking me like I know ..I have no idea ! read the comments that someone left for me and you see that reason why I said this.

  • This is when Janet could do no wrong!!! I miss her :-)

  • Janet will never be mariah.

    Janet actually has talent.

Janet doesn't have to buy her record sales.
