From Peru, thanks to THEmotownboy to reach us this gem. I admired the Carpenters from about 1973 when I heard for the first time, the song "Sing", but their LPs I began to buy (second hand) since eighty gradually throughout the decade until the mid 90. "Now and Then" probably I got it from the early nineties
“Now and Then” debo haberlo adquirido más a o menos el año noventa.
A shame this never had a chance at single release - I guess maybe it was too long to be a single back in the halcyon days of pop. One of the finest vocals ever by the finest female voice ever. Motownboy really does us proud with all his work.
I remember the day Karen died like it was yesterday. I was at work and "Top Of The World" came on the radio (which was odd because it was a rock station). The announcer came on after the song and said "there's a sad note attached to that song today" and went on to say that Karen had died. I just couldn't believe it. I still can't. She was and remains my favourite singer of all time. Thank you for posting these songs. I can tell a lot of love went into making the videos.
As it has been said, this is 100% ear candy and he and Karen were the finest confectioners in the business. Man do I miss Karen. I was stuck in Spain and didn't get word of her passing for almost a month. I cried for a week literally....
This is one of my very favorite Carpenters tracks. As others have said, you did an absolutely masterful job with the visuals. What a beautiful tribute to the artists. I can't believe how many people still don't appreciate the quality of their recordings - their loss. The Carpenters were my childhood and they are still the benchmark for me in terms of great music.
Simply awesome, THEmotownboy!! I've been a fan forever. I'm crying right now, thinking that although we still have her music, it was such a tragic loss.
I live in New Jersey and the biggest regret that I have was when I passed on an offer for tickets to see Karen and Richard at the Garden State (now PNC) Arts Center - just because I didn't have a boyfriend at the time - my mother even offered to go with me!
I too have nearly all their vinyl recordings and 45's as well.
I was driving home from work on the 101 one day in 1983, and all the radio stations were playing Carpenter songs (which was not normal), then I noticed everyone had their car headlights on - I got the most terrible sinking feeling and began to cry.....I knew something terrible happened; and it did....saddest day of my life.....thank you for respecting and immortalizing her in this beautiful video and song....and all the other songs I journeyed through last night.....sublime. :)
@ronnie8604 - Thank you for sharing that with us. Karen touched so many of us and continues to do so today...For those of us who live in L.A, it was especially heartfelt because she was also a local girl...
@THEmotownboy - You're welcome! I am one of their biggest fans! I echo all others, by saying I have all their vinyl and memorabilia (in storage), and even a picture of her I took after a concert - she was wearing the yellow dress w/the black and white checks. I now have all the CD's (I think). I was living in Los Feliz when she died and missed the funeral; but put flowers at A&M studios that night. Thank you for all you do....I will share more later...ron
@ronnie8604 Thanks for sharing your story. I had no idea when Karen C. died since I was living abroad and didn't realize this tragedy at the time. It is such a shock to know that she has gone from us soo early in life and what a shame. It was such a gift for the world to be able to hear her beautiful voice though. :)
@ronnie8604 I remember that day so well. Someone at work literally burst into our office and yelled out that Karen had died. Almost everyone in my office, including myself, began to cry. I, too, remember everyone with their headlights on and we're in Massachusetts. We love Karen so very much and will always remember what joy and celebration she brought us with her beautiful voice.
@ronnie8604 - No fair Ronnie8604 to have been there and known so quickly that Karen had left us. As most of the planet I too was a wreck but only found out 3 weeks later while living in Spain. I had 5 C's cassettes with me including Made in America and I found out through a letter in the mail that she was gone. I have never cried so hard in my life. The people around me could not understand why I was so upset. She touched my soul from day one in 1970. I was 10 years old. God I miss her......
Great job, Motownboy! I have all of their LPs and this is one of my Carpenters' favourites. I've never heard it with such a clear and brilliant sound! Thank you very much for uploading this!
As a teen, I would play this LP in my darkened bedroom, singing along with Karen, floating away in the moment. That was over 35 years ago, and I still do this now. The lovely lady and her sound still haunt me. Thank you motown for a beautiful visual to accompany this.
wow, karen's voice is powerful here. the montage is beautiful. It's strange seeing the pictures of rich older while karen looks young in all her pictures, frozen in time. the whole thing is enough to make me cry.
Wow! Stunning; the sound quality, the picture montage...everything. This is one of my absolute favourite Carpenters tracks. It doesn't crop up on compliations so it's a bit of an unappreciated gem. Thank you so much for loading this. Now where can I get the Quad LP from ?!
It would have been great if one could rip these LPs at highest quality (24bit/192Khz) because I could hear the difference between a CD and vinyl rip on some other artists and the difference is quite big (at least for me) and a quadraphonic mix would definately be better than standard CD. I have the SACD with 5.1 sound which is almost brilliant, but it contains only 21 tracks of Carpenters and, for example, this one is not included.
The quad mix really makes it sound as if Karen is in the room, it's like hearing the song for the first time again, thank you so much for uploading, I can tell you put in a lot of time and effort on the video as well, thank you :-)

I love your quad mix, motownboy. Richard tried to remix this track in the 90s or 2000s and it had too much reverb. This version is far superior.
