I remember the stir in country circles that Eddy caused when he recorded this with a full orchestra. And yet that version was more country than most of what is called country today. Shows how times changed.
I hold this song quite dearly because of my grandpa, he hasnt passed like some of the people's love ones here but he loves this song. Everytime I hear it i cant help but think of him and that's a wonderful thing. I love you grandpa and this one is for you.
OH MY GOODNESS. i just heard this on radio. i LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG. I was a little kid when this was popular and i would go nuts when it came on the radio. THANK YOU for posting this. Really - thank you. I may even have a 45 around here somewhere.... must search. thanks.
Thanks for posting this song. My Momma, raised me on a regular diet of Hank, Patsy, many others and of course Eddie. I listen to all kinds of music, but my heart will always be country.
i work in a nursing home. this one resident has this song, i have grown to LOVE it!! Every morning i tell him to play my song. i am only 34 and he has turned me on to so many songs i really sould not know!!
I saw him in person one time. There are entertainers and then there are great showmen. Eddy was one of the latter. He held the audience in the palm of his hand!
@pegcage I say the same thing about Dwight Yoakum. I am not trying to compare them, mind you, but as far as being able to play to, captivate, and hold an audience, Dwight is great. One of the last truly talented country singers in this day and age.
Did you know that Eddy Arnold with Little Roy Wiggins on the steel guitar sold 75,000,000 records. That sets the record for the highest records sold in the 20th century.
I seem to remember this being the theme for his radio show. I loved that show when I was little. My mom used to say that if I missed it I'd cry. When I finally saw him on TV I was SO disillusioned. He didn't look anything like what I'd imagined. I still loved him, tho'. When he was on TV I'd just keep my eyes closed. :D
I really love this version the most. The opening sounds like a western angel orchestra, while Eddy croons it. Even during the middle part where the choir joins in, to the very last lonesome sounding yodel at the very end. So majestic and angelic; This was truly made in Heaven was it not, folks?
Eddie I have loved you since I was 11 and Now I am 72..There will never be another you..Thank you for so many years and so many great songs..You are and always will be the best..RIP
This is the version he recorded in the mid fifties with an orchestra. It stirred a lot of controversy in country music circles at that time. Country music purists blasted it. I loved it! Today it sounds real country compared to modern "country" music!
LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sign should say "Country at its finest", not "it's"! "It's" is short for "it is"!
