  • I've been "real world" welding for the past 6 years and we clean every piece of metal we weld.

  • This video gave me arc eye

  • Does it seem that maybe the feed is too fast on this or too high amps, cause it sounds like its spuddering?

    Thanks as always,

    Paisano

  • @theflyinwop sounds like low wire speed. and FYI, mig welders have adjustable voltage. adjusting amps is a combination of wire speed and stick out.

  • I miss the part where the metals are cleaned first before any welding is done

  • @hobbyguy In the real world steel has to be welded whatever its condition. Taking time to clean every joint before welding is just not possible or necessary.

  • @muddymike0 "real world" is a pretty vague descriptor. I'm replying only because some people actually read these comments and dont have enough knowledge or training to sort things out for themselves. The need to clean a joint is purely dependent on the quality of weld required. If you're doing general fabrication and have a fair amount of skill, you should be able to weld through paint or rust no problem, but If you're fitting pipe, welding a hydraulic component, food grade.. get the point?

  • @cougar32v You are quite right. My "real world" comment was made in context of what I was demonstrating.

  • Wow i've got an antique welding shield like that, made of fibreglass, my neck thanks me for speed lenses though........

  • glad you covered your eyes now i got arch eye well done usless NOTexpert village

  • This makes me want to go to college for a business degree.

  • @beaman220

No, you don't, because the monitor doesn't display that part of the spectrum, and, if you thought it did, how stupid would you have to be to sit there and stare at it.

  • I guess you can be what ever the fuck you want to be on the internet....

  • wow didnt know they invented a new weld joint... pretty sure the tec. term for this joint is a plug weld :)

  • @satan31337 Or a Puddle Weld if you're not from the southern half of The United States and from say...the rest of the planet.

You see, English is not my first language and I am impeccably poor at speaking the irksome language and in a verbal context, I am hardly dexterous with it...but even I know what "synonymous" means.

  • @dennisj86 Oh you are a machone huh? Thanks for clarifying dipshit!

  • sure beats the heck out of buying a separate spot welder

  • @dennisj86 You are clueless but it is fine to have some clueless people in the world!

  • first of all i agree that its a great idea but you need a helment on your head so you can have both hands to weld you stupid douche

  • Comment removed

  • @memodedonachuy He is wearing Glasses you twat

  • the amps on your welder need to be changed that weld sounded horrable

  • Have to say, After welding for over 25 years you should have A steady sounding weld. Not the spattering sound that this welder made. I always think the sound of the weld should be like eggs frying. But thats just me. Oh the speed setting on his wire feed was too slow. =)

  • A 'welder' is a machine, a' weldor' is the person doing the welding.

  • @3Mudbone1 ...that doesn't make any sense

  • @DLEWIS488 In the English language that is how the two words are spelled.

Do you get it now? There is a difference between the way they are spelled. Most people mispell the one which describes a man who welds. A welding machine is described by the one spelling, and the person who welds is described by the other word.

  • @3Mudbone1 fair enough

  • @3Mudbone1 weldor? HA! would you not mean "power source" and "Welder"?

or, "rectifier/transformer" and "welder"? or even "plant" and "welder"?

  • here is a tip w 40 the area before u weld

  • isnt that called a plug weld???

  • Well I can see that everyone here is a expert So i am not the only one..... there is no doubt his settings are wrong you should not be able to hear it clack like that thats due to the wire melting away so fast that it can't keep a stable filler metal deposit.... And for expert village this is low a monkey can do what that man just did

  • Turn up the amps, dosen't sound right when you are welding

  • @pwl1989 maybe so, but it worked didn't it?

  • @olliekerr sure it did, but if he wants to weld something bigger then 2 dots, then the welding wont hold and it will look terrible.

(I work as a professional welder just fyi.)

  • Holly crap he has it set way to high, only a couple seconds he burnt through, and you could hear the heat eating up the flux core making the weld sound like it's stuttering.

supposed to sound like beacon on the fryer, nice and steady.

  • @L0ver80y It could be the wier feed is set eather to high or to low and thats why its not constent

  • if you didnt know how to do this, you shouldnt be allowed near a welding machine.

  • that sounds like turkey crap

  • Now, if you wanna watch someone weld IN PERSON, never look at the light with the naked eye! I have had flash burn (the result of the light getting to your eyes for a long enough time) and trust me, you dont want it. It gives you the feeling of hot sand, you cant open your eyes, and even with your eyes closed just the light from the tv makes the pain even worse. Its one of the most horrible feelings you will ever have and potatoes dont work.

  • I was a welder for ten years back in the 60s. I burned my eyes a few times and you are 100% correct. Feels like hot sand in your eyes. Any light causes big time pain. I would walk the floor for hours with the pain. I never went to the ER but many people do. Flash is NOT fun.

  • put a natural cream in your eyes that wil work i´am a professional welder if you use wipped cream from cows not that fake veggie cream it will work trust me i have had many many of those burns

  • You can watch any video on welding without any protective gear because all of the lenses filter out all of the ultra violet light and the recording equipment only records what you see. Theres no way that your monitor screen will project out ultra violet light like that. Its like taking a pic of the sun and saying you cant look at the pic.....

  • @8aturner1989

Go see Welding cert Materials at Lulu.Com

  • @8aturner1989 Wait, wait, wait. You mean, I can't turn on a video of the sun and beach and get a tan? DANGIT! ;)

  • fourth; no real welder would weld anything without grinding the rust, burrs, n shit off the material first. fifth; he over heated the material. u can SORT OF get away with it on mild steel but lil else... sixth; u always clamp or tack what your welding 2gether dont jus use the work lead 2 hold it.

  • You seem pretty knowledgeable about welding so i just have a question, i want to watch this vid but i dont have a welding mask and dont wanna burn my retinas, so how do you watch the vid then???? :(

  • whoever the jack off is thats doin the welding in this video is a horrible welder. i dont care who he learned from or how much experience he THINKS he has. first off; the type of weld joint is called a plug weld NOT a "puddle weld". second; no self-repecting welder, especially a good welder, would weld any kind of a weldment with 1 hand. third; the machine isnt even close to bein set properly. the wire feed speed is WAY 2 high.

  • i agree, i mean wtf? there should b like a buzzing smoot sound, and if u dnt want weld on the side of the dam work peice dont weld, get someone who can

  • pretty quiet of a video.. more sound!

  • Thanks !!! These small welding videos are very helpful. I want to buy a welder soon for my rat rod project. Like they say....a picture is worth a thousand words......

  • damn you must of been popular with the ladies.

  • Your 23 and can't spell that is just sad.

  • @ZaoHuZhua Do you mean 'you are' rather than your''. Stones and glasshouses springs to mind.

  • @uraldneprvw Way to bring up a year old post jackass.

  • @ZaoHuZhua Well, don't post then. What has the time interlude to do with you being picky and me pointing out a certain irony in your comment? It was a bit of a tongue in cheek remark. I apologise if I upset you.

  • Seriously? It's pretty sad that you're 23 years old and haven't heard of a synonym before. There are multiple ways to say the same thing in any language. Don't be such a condescending ass clown to the people who take their time to make videos. Jeez.

Oh, and it's too bad that a master welder such as yourself has contributed zero videos on the subject, but seems more than willing to critique everyone else's.

  • just like your daddy. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Tell me, if you know so much about structural steel then tell me how come you so dumb you believed that the fires brought down the twin towers and WTC7?

You DO know about all the molten steel in the rubble dont you? Ooops, did the TeeVee forget to tell you about it?

  • btw - alot of people call it a puddle weld.

  • if you have not studied welding and you dont know about behaveour of metals and also the types of steel available and care to be taken during welding, you are not a welder, because if some body gives you different materiall you can not weld with just one technique which you know weld that material, you should know the material, you should know what type of electrode to be used what current , voltages and the speed of welding , wheather you have to heat the material befor welding and so on...

  • also you should know that if you are professional welder, you should know that all the parameters of welding a piece which is critical, the welding engineer gives the parameters,

  • I was a welder back in the 60s. I went to the Lincoln welding school in OH for my training but worked in Kansas City (MO). Many of the "welders' I worked with just guys off the farm that welded a bit on the farm. I was a certified welder. I was a member of the boilermakers union and the UAW. Most of the welding I did was re-building old rail cars and building truck bodies for KW Dart Truck Company.

  • A part of welding one can call it as art, but it doesnt mean that any body who welds just simple steel, it doesnt mean he is profesional, to be a profesional welder, one needs to know lots of thing about materials and so one. to be a profesional one has to attend the training school for each types of welding technique, such as mig , Tig, simple arc, gas welding, plasma there are moore than 80 technology in welding and one can be exxpert just in few of them.. u must be a profesional welder

  • Well I worked hospital security for 30 years so not sure now I could do much of anything. When I did weld it was pipe welding and heavy carbon steel. We used Mig (CO2 and other) but I never had in schooling on it. I never did TIG it was sort of new. When I worked at KW Dart Truck truck they did a lot of that in booths in the Kenworth building. Those were good jobs then. I was a welder for about 10 years. I enjoyed it and we were in demand then and the pay was pretty good.

  • i started when i was 5, ppl dont give a toss what its called because it differs so much between country.

  • Love that helmet use.

  • He didnt want to mess up his hair..haha

  • any body noticed the machine screames out for wire feed

  • no, how did you tell?

  • why do they call it expert village this guy cant even set his wire speed

  • trying to help people.....instead of sitting there slagging the whole thing off!!!!

  • learn your facts befor u come in like an Idiot

  • i also call them plug welds.

wire speed deff needs to be turned up.

  • bad example of safe work, did not put on welding helmet

  • He had a Shild instead of a helmet

  • 1. clean rusty ass metal

    2. Set welder properly

    3. get a real welding helmet

  • look we can all fuckin greef him rite but at least he's showing you what a puddle weld is, i've done loads of those before and just called it joining some plate by drilling a hole one piece n welding them tgetha by filling the hole up hahaha now i'm ganna call them puddle welds! so he tought me that! I'm the best fuckin welder on here and i say he's ok! ok! come on give me some shit n reply!

  • yeah, welder deff sounds a bit off.

not hard to get set a welder when your doing thin shit, and fuck it sounds good when its set well.

hate the sound of a hot welder, spewin that i only really do heavy fab ay.

  • ye u can tell wen it sounds good, does sound pretty good

  • more like moronvillage... these videos should be taken down so somebody doesnt kill themself

  • aaaaaa! i got a flash! hahaha!

  • my thoughts exactly. if you hate "expertvillage" please say so on my channel!!!!

  • sigh...onto related videos

  • if your going to be teaching welding dont you think it would be a good idea to wear some proper safety equipment .......i know its a simple small weld but come on ....and grind that shit metal BEFORE you weld it

  • wire speed sounded too fast?? welder not set up correct? did you not see the rusted piece of shit metal he was welding? lol

  • Its called scrap metal genious, and he was using it as an example to help all you ignorant assholes who think hes stupid.

  • if this is expert village hes the village idoit..lol

  • LMFAO!

    Good one! :)

  • 30 years of welding experince... duno about that

  • the setting does not "sound" right

  • tune u welding gear before you start explaining people ''how to do it''

  • yea pretty much useless if u cant see the molten metal thru the lens. if yer tryin to learn.

  • its kind of an easy explanation. you want to fill the hole with your filler metal. oops. i used a different term. you want to fill the hole with your weld. so you want it to bond to both parent metals. oops. the surface you are welding to. so any one withcommon sense SHOULD know hat you need to do in order for this to happen

  • Why cant you guys when doing these videos about welding set up another handy cam viewing through a welding lens with a close up of the job instead of just setting the camera 5 meters away and showing people nothing at all?

  • yeah come to work with me you can do it with 25mm smart ass lol

  • wire speed sounded a bit fast 2 me!

  • you can weld rust i do it all the time its just a bitch to get a ground

  • He's gonna sunburn his face.....warning, don't do this.....

  • easy to knock it,,, harder to upload better...

  • does expert village pull random people off the street to do these videos?... i think so hahaha its a plug weld!

  • He should of done this in a C3PO outfit.

  • LOL! It musta been at the detailers that day.

  • HOLY FUCK THESE GUYS ARE FUCKED LOL. its a PLUG weld.ffs that weld sounded like shit and clean that rust off or ill wipe that smurk off your face rogers

  • r u retarded man..... theirs more then one way to skin a cat, or he's a pom your a yank, of course he will call it something different you dumm SEPPO

  • Guess no one taught him to remove the rust.......Half Asser.........

  • I have always heard it called a plug weld, this term is new to me.

  • it all dependson where you are. it can be called a plug weld or a puddle weld..here in the south i eat grits. up north, they eat cream of wheat. or tey put sigar on their grits. whats the difference in calling it a plug or a puddle. it all means the same thing. another example is this. TIG welding.. also called Heli-Arc welding by the welders that have been doing this for a long time. and as far as the rust goes, it was just a demonstration on how to do something. we all know to remove the rust.

  • I have heard this weld referred to as a "plug weld." is that incorrect, or a

    name not commonly used.

  • Comment removed

  • That sounded terrible, perhaps turn down your voltage or increase your wirespeed. Welding light steel, you want it to sound like frying bacon (nice crisp high pitch poping). Welding heavy steel, make it sound like a waterfall. Also, if your a good welder, arc or mig will do the same job light or heavy steel. It all boils down to the cost of the machine.

  • Hi can somebody give me some info about welding. Whats the strongest type of welder a mig or arc? and does an arc welder need gas like the mig does? it would be anoying getting the gas for it. I want to eventually build a motorbike carrier for the towbar of my truck. any help appreciated thanks

  • Arc you get more penetration. But, mig is alot more pratical. I would suggest using mig for what you are building. Arc gets way too hot.

  • yah but now the industry is using dual shield its faster and produces a purer weld. this is for structural though

  • Watch my video. you could do what you want with that little stick welder and it's really cheap. mig welding penetrates less than stick but you could use special wires to make up for that. (flux core)

  • you would want to use arc because it would penitrate more it also depends on the type of metal

  • This guy is a geek, if there is as much crap stuffed under his "welding table" as there is over it, his gonna burn down his expert house

  • i hate all this expert village crap. all it is used for by them is advertising to subscribe to their service. LAME.

  • Theres no AWS symbol for a puddle joint. LMAO

  • this looks like a regular old plug or slot weld to me

  • It's just a difference in vernacular. He's obviously English. Just like we don't call it the "earthing clamp" we call it a "ground" or "grounding clamp".

  • i took a grade 10 metal shop class 2 years ago and even i know that this welder has horrible contact.

  • that might be part or most of it but he never grinded the welding area so i think thats part of the problam

  • The sound of welding against rust <3

If you gonna learn someone weld..begin to teach the basics like:take away all rust around the welding area, support you weldingarm by leaning to something or useing your other hand, can be hard with a lowbudget helm that needs to be caried maybe ^^

  • the guy in the video couldnt lay a 3G weld if he tried. he prolly burn the snot out of the metal and put a huge hole in it lmao. i love the sound of his welder too. sounds like shit LOL. welder should sound like eggs or bacon fryin.

  • or like a buzz if your really good

  • the actual term is plug weld even though this has been gone over that is not Stainless, and the sound generated while the weld is being produced is very important it should sound as if bacon is frying, and mig is the slang term is "GMAW Gas Metal Arc Welding" and "mig Metal Inert Gas" and can be used for steel,Stainless,Aluminum and "TIG Tungsten Inert Gas or GTAW or Heli-Arc for the oldtimers, can be used on the same

  • That aint MIG, its MAG. With MIG you weld stainless steel. Why didnt he clean away the rust?

  • You are a moron... You weld stainless with TIG!

  • omg, MIG = Metal Inactive Gas, you weld stainless with both MIG and TIG asshole. I've just weld stainless with MIG so dont come and argue with me...

  • MIG Metal Inert Gas TIG Tungsten Inert Gas But the guy above you is a moron, stainless is commonly welded with a the MIG process. Stainless wire and co2 or preferable tri mix is all you need

  • how do you know its mag and not mig he doesnt tell you the gas he uses. u can mig tig and stick weld stainless btw. and mig is metal INERT gas. and yes hes wire speed sounds too slow but so what. it doesnt look like its going to be untrasonically tested or bombed its welded and it aint goin nowere. its just a demonstration dont criticise so much. by the looks of his workshop he doesnt have a £8000 weld set and doesnt look like its going to be holding a 100 tonne weight

  • this guy is right its metal inert gas and oyu can weld stainless with mig and tig and stick damn im in high school for welding and i knew that DUMBASSES well all except oioi1988

  • is it me or does his plant sound like a bag of shit turn up the wire speed

  • Damn, sorry about the multiple comments was trying to get the url in should be plug-weld too, not p lug-weld.

  • Give the guy a break, puddle-plug, tomahto-tomaeto, no one's being marked on it and we all found it. MIG weld sound is a poor indicator of weld technique. Different jobs need different techniques, different setups and thus different sounds. Just because a weld doesn't sound like sizzling bacon or whatever doesn't mean its bad. One thing, though plug welds should start from the centre and go out NOT as someone here commented the other way round

  • Your teaching method could use alittle tweaking and refining, however thank you for putting forth the effort to instruct newer welders.

  • im learning, thanks for the video

  • a puddle weld ?? i think your wire speed was a little to high as well

  • A puddle joint. Never heard of such a thing in 20 years of welding. Its called a plug weld. A puddle joint, isnt that cute.

  • Old Man Style..

old ppl stil say Co2 welding.

    i say Mig..

  • Hey..give the guy a break. He's only twenty three years old and can't have too much experience. I know he looks much older but thats because his skin has turned into a leather-like substance from welding without proper protection. LoL

  • Man, you must enjoy "sun"burns, in this case, First degree burns, Hope you at least wear your helmet when chipping the slag!

  • i do better plug welds than him

  • What he did was actually called a Plug weld. This video was just to give tips for the inexperienced welders who want to do cosmetic welding on something.

  • Stupid, all welding is done by puddles.

  • Jesus Christ! Running a little cold there, champ?

  • not even good for an ad

  • Didn't show sh*t. Just theory and poor video quality. wtf was that?

  • lol this guys forehead the next day was burnt

put on the welding mask and use a reperator expert? i think not

  • yeah it didnt sound very crisp

  • this is called a PLUG weld.

  • speed of wire is slightly slow should sound like a egg frying on a pan

  • omg, expert has over 70k vids =O thats a shit load lol. i dont think it sounded right, was like the wire was bouncing off the metal.

  • Is that B PRESSURE?

  • and there is a reason why you have to be mean, This guy is just trying to help. I understood everything he said perfectly and was nice to learn something for free.

  • and there is a reason why you have to be mean, This guy is just trying to help. I understood everything he said perfectly and was nice to learn something for free.

  • It would be nice if some Americans learnt English. I understood him perfectly but I would being English and being able to speak the language!

  • LOL cos you are from the USA you cant understand. Nice one on the comment, he is easy to understand.

  • he is speaking english dumbass!! it's called an accent, you fucking moron!

  • @mudknuckles Excuse me, I am English, I dont have an accent :-) Mike.

  • Yep, youre a retard. End of story. Dont argue, you cant win. Fail.

  • ...he is English, asshole

  • dumbass yanks no wonder clarkson hates you lot

  • i think what the americans are trying to say (since i am american as well) is that they want him to speak AMERICAN. see, we spoke english a long time ago here in america, but we screwed the pooch so bad and changed words around so much, it is now called american. wow. leave it to us americans to really F it up huh.

  • its called a plug weld your welder should be pretty hot in order to get the proper penatration. clean the base metal good as possible

  • that helmet isnt really stoping him from getting ray burn on the face.imonly a 2nd yearand i learned the hard way. e.g. not holding helmet in front of fave. i got a miller helmet. electronic lense. does the job

  • Dont know if this will help anyone really.....But when using mig, it should sound like bacon frying. If you set your volts at 20 for example, set your wire at 200ipm an tweak it from there. Always push mig. I use the "lazy L" technique. Wire "stick out" should be around 1/4 inch

  • ok when you do this you are spose to go in a circle im not sure how to explain it but you go around the outside first then go to the center making the circle smaller to hard to explain

  • you would go around the edges of the hole to tie it in with the base metal. then go to the middle to fill in and once its full one time around the top to tie in to the top on of the plate.

  • What?

Proper English, and grammar would be welcome.

  • shut it, go learn english

  • what exactly is grinding for?

  • removes any oxides and dirt so the weld is a nicer finish and strength

  • ohh i see thanks! :D
