so you really think the crutchfield solution for an FM modulator will be worth it? where do you live? do you think that FM modulator will have alot of interferance.. cause i live in LA and it's pretty radio frequency busy here.. jw please reply :x!
Email me, (sparky3489 at yahoo) I know another place to get one...and they're not just stuck on one frequency. You can chose from several. I wanted to add that when the unit is on, the antenna is bypassed so no interference can get in.
A modulator differs from a transmitter because it usues a direct connect approach. It actually wires in between the stereo and the antenna so the steroe gets no other interference no matter how close.
is it possible, by your knowledge to run an amp too cold? as my system involves running two amps in close proximity, over heating has been some what of a worry, enough though there is ample space around the amps, roughly 3/4 of a cubic foot. it seems like a good idea to mount fans, but i was wondering if they actually need to be thermally controlled, or if they could just function constantly, but this may cause over cooling. many thanks
hey sparky, just wanted to say thanks. found your website and it , was, and still is of great help while putting together my first install. many thanks, should have it all up and running soon.
I say this because yesterday I heard my uncle's sound system 2 15 inch kicker L7 and a hifonics 2000 watt amp with a ported box. his setup sounds WAY louder and its not double what mine. I found your site today and ill see if I can get it to go louder lots of great info there.
thats funny how you dare to question his setup check his website if anyone knows what they are talking aobut its him. I had a question I also have a 1200 watt xplod amp but mine is a newer one it has the light up circle and two audiobahn alum12q subs rated at 1000 rms each in a sealed box. It is loud but I know its not as loud as it can be is it the box or the power.
You could have gotten alot more bang for your buck with a properly tuned ported box rather than a bandpass box as this? I assume by the looks. Probably too little foot^3 in the front section as usuall. Not bad sound though, sounds like your hitting everything proportionally. You would do alot better with a good HU with reasonable EQ as well. Look into a better amp, say something from US AMPS. Their ax series is amazing.
It's a sealed enclosure, not bandpass. An EQ is a device that amplifies all frequencies then you adjust it (remove sound) to make it sound better. I hate removing sound.
You do realize Sony is CEA-2006 compliant right? <0.1% THD at rated power, 98dB S/N. Sounds like a top contender to me.

Hey, sparky. I know you get a lot of people questioning you do to your bass know-how, but I have a small question. Your blog touched vented box's tuning frequencies, but you never went into detail on how to go about picking the right tunning frequency to use. What is the box in this video tuned at? I listen to just about every genre(rap, blues, rock, classical, metal, psychedelic), which tuning frequency would be my best bet for a flat response? Thanks a lot, man. Your blog is very helpful.
Most subs come with information on recommended tuning frequencies. I didn't touch on the matter simply because most people don't understand the math involved to calculate box tuning. I do cover port tuning calculations under the heading "Formulas and other tips".
Hey Spark I'm starting yet another system from scratch, I've a 1200watt Sony Xplod amp and I'm considering using a band pass box with 2 12" 500W in my SUV. what do you think about this, your input would be greatly appreciated.
Just so you know that bandpass boxes are extremely hard to design and get right. They often become one note wonders in the end. Also, be sure the subs can tolerate being put in a bandpass, not all can.
Sparky, I have two JL W6's 12" along with a fosgate 1800 watt amp that was converted to 2400 watts. The system hits but not as loud as I would like it to. I was wondering should I go with 15's like Memphis? Are the RE's any good?
hey man, I got 2- 12" Alpine Type S(900 watt) .. just bought it from my brother.. also have an Alpine V12 300 mono amp with it.. I was thinking of boosting it up, would a Volphenhag 2000 watt 2ch amp be two much for these subs? Also could I wire six speakers with the Alpine mono amp? What is my best choice? O a Boss 18 Farad Capacitor to much?
sparky, i know these two subs are not even comparable, but i need help choosing between single 12 JL W1 or 12 Alpine Type R. The amp will be Cadence TX-750d 600 RMS. I want SQ and not spl. Also, I know that JL W1 has lower RMS, but does it really perform well and pick up the lows as possible? Thanks...
sounds good man, i got 2 1000 watt max input subs, 12 inchers, the rated power is 200 watts and they have 4 ohms each, wut kind of amp(s) should i use.
your audio guidance is second to none. The true car-audio enthusiasts like yourself are scarce and your webpage is unselfishly informative. thanks from me and keep it up! people learn...eventually.
sparky next time u put a video on i recomend u to put one of these two songs oxy cotton from lil wyte or late night tip from three six mafia that would get all the juise out of those subs its me tavo from yahoo questions dont get offened
Not offended at all. The problem I have found with trying to record heavy bass songs is the distortion. I see too many systems that you can't really judge because of this. So I put something on that you can listen to through a home theater system or the like and REALLY hear the lows.

The same one I have is a perfect match. Sony XM-2200GTX or the newer model. Both are the same. It's 200 watts RMS X 2 @ 4 ohm.
