  • Reminds me of my family.

    They're Newfies.

  • I'm Newfie and i knows it ;3

  • skidooskidoo!

  • Flat on the back with that.

  • newfoundland is a awesome place, im happy i live dere , hehehe see what i did Dere

  • now that's some grand !

  • hahaha theres some other phrases i wish he woulda used too,

"you dont know noone dat dont want nuttin done do yah?" -- newfie seeking employment

  • This guys is making it harder than it is, LISTEN :/ I get everything he's saying before he needs to explain it. smh

  • I laugh every time I watch it! I don't know how anybody can't understand this. Pshh, it's just logic hahaha xP I say these things like almost everyday... I wonder if I went somewhere else if they'd all look at me like I have three heads..

  • I have a total crush on this guy now.....purrrr!

  • o.o Well, I understood it all... I didn't know we talked like this.

  • @austinnHaa thought should have been spelled Taught!

  • In Wales, we regularly say "I'll do it in a minute now". With a strong Welsh, valleys accent, you should see outsiders trying to make sense of that.. :L

  • I KNO HIS BROTHER HE TOUGHT MY BAND CLASS!!!

  • this makes me laugh cause this is truely how all of us newfoundlanders talk,

  • @25nevershoutnever Some of these sayings i haven't even heard of...

  • To anyone who don't get this language, let me tell you, I am from Newfoundland and living here for over 20 years now and this is how a lot of people speak here :)

  • that is irish he is speaking not New foudlandese. he stole it

  • @ciamcon where do you think we came from? :)

  • @ciamcon Newfoundland was settled by the Irish, so we Newfoundlanders didn't "steal" it, we grew up with it... it's in our ancestry and our communities.

  • the interviewer is an complete idiot for a start so no wonder he doesnt get it and everyone else does

  • "What'you at?" - Isn't that common knowledge? Like something americans says aswell...? I don't get this.

  • @kamratframjandet you have to be a Newfoundlander to get it :) Like me :)

  • @rockonwild I guess so. To me, it seems like he's saying: "You know, in Newfounland, we say 'How do you do?', and that means - believe it or not - something like 'How are you doing?'".

  • @kamratframjandet yea :)

  • @rockonwild Though I am from Sweden, and I understood it.

  • @kamratframjandet Sorta. "What you at" is more commonly used. What Newfoundlanders and a lot of Labradorians say is more along the lines of "Watta-ya-at" :P

  • I'm also from Ireland I was able to understand this fully. The slang in Ireland is very similar to this bar minor differences.

"what's after happening now" is used as everyday conversation

  • As an Irish person, this makes complete sense to me

  • @0to9000 There used to be a language, spoken in Newfoundland, called Newfoundland Irish, but it is now extinct. At least that's what Wikipedia says.

  • @sweiland75 it still exists, it's called "townie" accent lol

  • @Jessaaaaaaaca but it is English?

  • "What's wrong with ya George!"

"...But do you mean physically or do you mean intellectually? I'm on your same page? What do you mean?!"

"...I dunno what's wrong wit you man..." lolol 1:55

  • Yes, By! Wicked ole laugh, bys! I tink yeee're onta sumpin!

  • oh so funny i'm a newfie & I hears those phrases everyday=)

    whatta ya at bys??..haha=P

  • Love it!

  • Hey Allan, dem der mainlanders don't understand we at all. Well dats too bad. Keep up the great work buddy. Maybe we will see a season 4. This is the best show CBC has produced in years.

  • Christy Ring deserves to be treated with respect just as much or more than those who continue to cripple his career. The guy was injured doing Hawcos stunts and they did nothing about it, never even credited or called the guy. True character Hawco! Very sad on Doyle's part. That young fella has been working on his own film for years and now he can't even work. Doyle should be trying to correct this before it goes very sour on them. Don't Doyle have insurance?

  • ....wadda'ya at? how's she goin buddy? dis is it. Yes b'y, brudder. go on. make perfect sense to me luh! =)

  • @Shonstan skip bah whattayat der ol' man! notta ting by, b;out to smoke some trout ! ohhh yees by, big ol feast? yeees

  • Stay where your at till i comes where your too i uses that all the time

  • After watching this many times and its still funny

  • i love whats after happenin now

  • Real Irish would not hang out in an English pub "The Duke of Duckworth" talk about unintelligent... Allan does make a good puppet though. He does not have a clue what he's talking about when it comes to Newfoundland or its dialects. Grow a brain or at least get one of your goons to write it out for you before trying to look like you know what you are talking about Hawco! Where's his wedding ring?!? Don't see that on him.

  • George had it right but Allan said no! It does mean "I'm on my way"

  • This is SO COOL!!! Newfoundland and Labrador are wonderful!

  • i think the east and west coast accents are very different, east being more sterotypical canadian, ya?

  • its confirmed. George is retart

  • I can type DOT-COMS now??? newfie.com

  • The Hour's still on?

  • youtube.com/watch?v=4u2T1RuLYEA

  • We take your jobs because we are good workers and are sought out. I've never heard the term Newfoundlandese but have heard of Newfinese, not afraid of the term Newfie, proud of it!

  • NEWFE

  • kinda nonsensical but w/e

  • Love republic of doyle, just finished the season premiere bout an hr and a half ago

  • niggers

  • who else thinks that allan hawco would be the best nathan drake?

  • only thing I heard was...

"DERK A DURR!" or in other words "They take our jobss"

  • @chromerugur we take your jobs because we work harder, and the employers up there know this. don't get upset, just work hard and someday you might be know as a dependable person too.

  • @chromerugur we "take your jobs" cause we value our jobs and do our best work.

  • eeeh, was not this the guy that went to that exclusive party at Toronto with the tax payer money ?

  • <--- Proud newf!

  • @1234cm1

On a par with Irish Traveler I'd say

  • he should bring up "I'll be dere da once!"

  • 'yeah' on the breath in-take - Yes

Who's you? - What's your name, your mothers and fathers name & where are they from?

  • wadda ya at me son, gettin on da booze tonight or wat byss?

  • Is George retarded? Not very hard to grasp...

  • @severedcinema It is for someone NOT from NL or knows no one from NL.....

  • @swifty3131 Obviously, but "stay where you're at, 'till I comes where you're too" isn't an incomprehensible concept my any means.

  • this guy is my music teachers brother or sumthin like that haha! :P

  • Whale Oil Beef Hooked!

  • My all time favourite is using the opposite for emphasis....

Newfanese: I knows it's not cold!!

English: Man - it's really cold!!

    Advanced:

Newfanese: I knows dere won't be nar beer goin downrange tonight!!

Translation: I am going to drink a lot of beer tonight!!

  • You're welcome Fort Mac...

  • People, This is thousands of years of inbreeding! They were stuck on a rock, give them a break for fooks sake!

  • Luckily, there's an app for that, called "Whaddaya app" think George needs it!

  • A feed of fee and chee? Must be a local thing because it's certainly not part of the province wide lexicon. Never heard it in my life.

  • hit yourself in the head head with a hammer and poof you can speak newfie

  • thumbs up if u live in newfoundland and ur laughing at this soo much!!!!!

  • This is awesome. Plain and simple. I'm not a newf but I have lots of friends who are and I love them so much! The way the newfs talk is so awesome! I could listen to it all day! hahaha :)

  • Ha!...I was wondering how this interview would go...hilarious...Great job Mr Hawco!...and for those of you making comments about him "not sounding like a Newfoundlander"...don't be so foolish..he was born on Bell Island!....and grew up in the goulds/kilbride...thats Newfoundland....no...he's not from shoe cove...or burnt head...but the article isnt entitled "how Baymen speak"...this is a lesson on our funny way of putting things. and he did a great job- using only three phrases.

  • @foxtrap I agree, he did awesome!

  • George Stroumboulopoulos is a worthless turd.

  • donnie dumphy, buddy wasis name and da udder fellars. also should be checked out by anyone interested in nl culture.

  • p.s. if your from town(st johns), you might as well be from tranna(toronto) city wit population of 250000 does not properly represent the small town life true newfoundland people. From da bay and proud of it.

  • daily conversation wit me mudder. Me: whatta ya at now? her: dis and dat, runnin around. Me: waas me fadder at? wass me brudder drivin at da day? her: nuttin much, dis and dat. Me: right on, right on. gooden nuff ill give ya a call again later.

  • this guy doesnt even sound like hes from newfoundland, if he is hes from fucking town!! should be called dumb ass townies trying to tell ya how they talks irish...was kind of funny though wa!!!

  • He forgot, "Slow down orangutan!"

  • @sleazysea That's hilarious. I love Newfies.

  • Buddy only moved back to NFLD cus he couldn't get any work with his crappy acting, Try watching some of his stuff."Love and Crappergy" sucked.. CBC is free TV no wonder they have ratings..most people can't afford cable. way to screen posts strombo! hawco called Newfoundland actors smucks..actors, camera department..directors are all from mainland too. Look what they did to Christy Ring he did hawcos stunts got injured and Allan or ROD never even called him.. then Allan took his credits. Bum!

  • I love Newfoundlanders. They've preserved their own argot and a distinct accent that helps create a unique culture, unlike the majority of us in Southern Ontario who are content to let our identity blend seamlessly into that of Americans, who we constantly criticize.

  • @amonster It is your fault for allowing Canada's birth rate to be superceded by the immigration rate.

  • why didn't he say "how's she gitten on by?"

  • Comment removed

  • @Gwh3n Allan Hawco was so reared up in da Goulds but Allan Doyle was reared up in Petty Harbour.so dere!!

    Got to love Newfoundland!

  • Comment removed

  • @Gwh3n You are wrong Allan Hawco is from Bell Island and was reared up in da Goulds however Alan Doyle is from Petty Hr. so dere take dat!

  • I love that George (my boyfriend) seems genuinely confused. LOL

  • i dont understand...how it doesnt make sense.. haha

  • im from newfoundland and i never say any of these yet i totally understand what he is saying lol

  • Whoever wouldn't have a scoff and quaff with this by don't deserve to wear the white green and pink!

  • I lovvve this!!!! Can't wait till tomorrow!!! :)

  • Newfounese is definitely a 'living language'

  • yes b'y!:3

  • kwitcherbellyaykin b'y.

  • I don't understand how some people can't grasp the concept of Newfoundland Slang, it's not hard to understand :P.

  • I'm sure it was "Stay where you're to, 'til I comes where you're at"!

    Still funny though!

  • @rowetube1 Yes you are correct sir.

  • : ) And they say black people speak incorrectly.

  • My favorite Newfy Phrase "What a goin' on"!!!

    I loves dat one!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I always thought the saying was, "Stay where you're to, 'til I comes where you're at" That's the way it's said where I'm from, maybe it's different once you're in past the overpass?

Still, whatever way it's said, it's great to hear a Newfoundlander try to explain it to a mainlander... too funny! Way to go, Allan!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes by

  • I'm a mainlander (or I used to be) and it's awesome how this crept into my lingo and I don't even think about it for a second. It's automatic! Someone says "whatayat b'y?" and even if i'm performing gall bladder surgery on a great white shark i'm after saying "nuthin much b'y, this is it...".

  • I've actually seen George down on George street!...

  • Someone needs to take George (aka Jarge) down to George Street and give him a good ol' tradition Screech in!

  • I don't know what to tell ya by'

  • nice.

  • I love how all Newfoundlander's responded to this with our language. It seems odd to keep finding people who don't understand this! Seems so simple.

  • by da lard geses, if i ceteches ya in dat shed one more time, ill put me number 9 right up ya arse
