  • she's so freakin cute, omg, and sing so beautiful and play a rick guitar, she needs to be my wife.

  • My kind of music - sung by my kind of girl. Thanks!

  • Michael's vocal version definitely better, especially live.

  • I love Susanna Hoffs. Go Bears.

  • This must have been on the Lillith(sic) Fair tour? 'September' Gurls' was one of my faves from the Different Light record. I prefer Michael's version, her voice had a detachment that always gave the song an errie cool feel, while Susanna can't help but make it sound sexy, which is different. Still, very cool....

  • I actually prefer this version. it has a certain warmth that the bangles didn't have

  • cool version !

  • Always loved the Bangles version of this song and this is a great performance of it. Thanks for keeping this up here. I still come back to listen every so often!

  • one of the sexiest women ever!!

  • wonderful

  • Not bad, but I still prefer Michael's version. Maybe it's because I like Michael or whatever, but I think Michael puts more feeling into the song. It was like she really "lived" the song. And she has an amazing pitch too!

Okay, sorry for going on and on about how amazing Michael is.

No offense to the Susanna lovers, but Susanna sounds a bit... strange here. It's probably it's live though, so don't come after my skin.

  • such a voice

  • Somebody decided that Susanna and Matthew Sweets version of Cinnamon Girl on the Letterman show had to be removed from YouTube. Whoever did that should suffer.

  • Hoffs and that guitarist absolutely kick ass in this version. tight and well timed. They did justice to Chilton's song

  • NO NO NO NO!

  • @BeccaGSD

    :)

  • Susanna Hoffs, what a bright face she has and it is obvious she is enjoying herself at this moment in time.I have been a fan of hers and the Bangles since 1984.I like it when performers like Sue show a smile when they make their music as it tells me that they are genuinely into what they do.Sue like 60s music and has my affection for that ,she has a great ear. Thanks Sue for being you!

  • @1bobair Yeah I love her voice. Some people say she's a lousy singer and I can kind of see where they're coming from but I find her thin voice to be pretty sexy.

  • actually she's nearly 40 here, as this was from 1997.

  • How hot does she look in that short skirt. And she s nearly fifty here?

  • who cares....i bet you do her even if she was 80

  • All I have to say is that if the surviving Beatles were to reunite, Susanna would be a great lead singer...I can sooo hear Beatles influence in her songs!

  • They covered Big Star and Jules Shear. You just don't get any cooler than that.

  • you cant rip on her for trying...shes obviously loved the song for ages...i mean, who the hell COULD do it justice?

  • Good version, but Michael Steele's vocals were much better.

  • Not that great a version. Her vocals are passable, but with no character. Lead break is pretty bad. Rhythm section not holding it together.

  • OMG! No character??? To me Susanna Hoffs has got a voice that will stand out anywhere, you never have a hard time recognizing her voice. That's what character is all about. Her voice is very uniqe and in my opinion very sweet and beautiful.

  • I agree. Her voice is very authentic.

  • I am discovering I am not a Susannah fan, although I am a huge pop fan. Her vocal on Beware of Darkness is similarly w/o effect on me.

  • I agree with the others here- her voice is completely unique. She has the speaking and singing voice tonally of a 10 year old girl, YET she has all this weird vibrato. The two things create something very unusual. If she was 10, she would be a prodigy as 10 year olds tend not to have vibrato. So when we hear her voice, it instantly sounds peculiar to us, yet really sweet. See why the rest of the Bangles became her backing vocalists? Cos their voices were average. Susanna's is most unusual.

  • Susanna Hoffs is amazing

  • She does a nice job with it, especially since its live.

  • Great stuff!

  • Its a cover, but this song belongs to Michael Steele. She lives music, Susanna Hoffs sings music.

  • I think it really 'belongs' to Alex Chilton, but y'know Susanna makes a decent fist of it.

  • yeah but susanna looks a lot better in a mini skirt though.

  • I don't really think so! ;)

  • cute..

  • She shoulda sung, "When she makes love to me." That woulda been hott.

  • When I saw the Bangles live, Michael Steele sung "she". Make of that what you will!

  • Susannah Hoffs, I wanna bear your children!

  • And for so long/ Till we touch? Quit mangling the lyrics, bangle.

  • not bad, the voice from Susanna is one of the best, I've ever heard, but the song is not good for her.

  • not bad but I'm biased. I want Michael singling September Gurls.

  • Great posting. I go back to it frequently!!!!

  • Awesome version. Good posting.

  • She was great in the Bangles and she's still bangin'

  • who the heck is this???

    Damn she sounnds good!

  • The lady has improved with age, no doubt.

Shame, really. A _guy_ can be over fifty and still rock out and be well known but the ladies tend to get relegated to the 'who are they?' circuit.

  • She sings great.

    She looks great.

    She dresses great.

    She is great!

  • Just for info, Alex Chilton wrote this song, and a few others for the Replacements

  • UMMMM, nice try bug guy, but the Replacements were like 7 years old when Big Star recorded September Gurls. GTFO.

  • She's great.

  • This is really good stuff-I love susannah's voice and I have always associated her with the great rickenbacker guitar.

  • any babe playing a ric *and* covering big star..........

  • she's great live. saw her in SF that year (Bottom of the Hill!)

who is the tele guy? he had killer tone!!!

  • Ah, she still has that nice smile and that nice voice...

  • Nah,Its better the Micki's version

  • Id like to have seen a version of this song by either Vicki or Debbie

  • A great track, 'Different light' album

  • sometimes "pop rock" is thebest thing going-like this

  • i think so too. september girls ,boy ~

  • This woman is so fucking wonderful!!!!
