i definitely woudn't have used hollow points for hunting hog, a regular 230gr fmj would have probably done better with the extra penetration and weight.
Hollow points might not be the right choice for this task; I'd guess that lack of penetration was more of a problem than lack of power (or even shot placement). Soft points (without the hollow) will expand almost as much, if the velocity is sufficient, but won't fragment on the hog's "armor" -- his heavy layer of bristles. Beyond that, however, .45 ACP isn't the round I'd choose for this, either; if a handgun was required, I'd rather have .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, any modern .44, or 10 mm.

I've seen them mushroom WAY too quick and fail to penetrate deep enough to be fatal, I cast 230gr truncated cone bullets from Lee mold # 452-230-TC, loaded to around 900 fps from a 4" S&W 625 revolver in 45 ACP and 45 Auto Rim brass. The 230gr TC's punch deep, cut big holes, shatter any bones in the way, and kill quick. The Lee "230 gr" TC actually weighs 235gr cast in wheel-weight alloy. The big flat-nosed bullet hits very hard.
Hollow point for hog hunting, there's your first mistake. You need hard cast bullets so you can get some penetration. Hollow points are great against two-legged and some four legged predators but for bigger four legged predators you need hard cast.

you know the only way to kill them wild hogs down here is to shoot them in the heart. if you shoot them anywere else it will piss them off or scar them away. hell it dont matter wat caliber gun you use its all on were you hit them. some times i will use a heritage rough rider pistol on hi-point c9 or single shot 12g or the m1 carbine but if you use a higher caliber rifle use soft tip hunting ammo so it will rip the shit out of his heart when it gos in. just alittle brain food for ya

His method may not have been the perfect method, but that is his right to use his own judgement. My first thought about the 45 Hp ammo was " Yes its a big round that is designed to do massive damage for its given caliber " After watching the video I was shocked at how little it slowed the pig down. Perhaps the hollow points were not getting the penetration needed.

@devilpyro420 Broke its jaw on the first shot, couple of meat shots that didn't hit anything vital, broke its back leg on one of the running away shots. (if you look close you can see its back leg flopping.) Final one to the back of the head mushroomed out and didn't kill it, then I cut its throat.... I feel so bad... naaaa it was so funny seeing it live!
