well i ran across something that mindblasted me. so the stock settings on the 6970 are 880Mhzcore/1375MHzmem/1.175V. So i was just doing stress tests and i found two funny things. at 990MHzcore and 1000MHz stock mem @ 1.210V i get about 65FPS on furmark 800x600 but when i increase core clock by 5 it goes up to 71FPS and i heard this could be mem error checking but i didnt touch the memory nor does overvolting/increasing the memory help.
i find the easiest way to overclock my 6970 is to run furmark in windowed mode and increase clocks/ voltage/mem over a 5 minute period each 5 minutes i increase core clock by 5mhz cause 6970 suck at overclocking and it's hard to tell were instability comes from this was if i increase a slider and it starts to artifact i know exactley what it is.
I have MSI Afterburner Beta 12 and for voltage its at 0 and when i move the bar it goes +1,+2, etc. Is there a way where i can see what volts its being set to? I am using a MSI GTX 570.
Whats the stock memory clock (mhz) for the R6850 cyclone GD5 because on the specs it says 4400mhz but on the afterburner its 1100mhz, can anyone help me?

My Asus 6670 (GD5) with E7200 @ 3,2 OC, base gpu 810 and 1000 memory, on The Run max settings, I get about 25 fps, but with OC, fps has increased to 40fps (880 core and 1300 memory, 47C... MSI Afterburner rulzzzz :X

I bought a preclocked GTX 560. It appears that I'm getting horizontal flickering when i turn on video games, and I think I should clock it down... How do I do that?
@nikoletina1994 You do the exact thing he does in the video, just the other way around. Basically you just push the slider to the left instead of sliding it to the right.
for those of you with the voltage issues, not all cards support unlocked voltage bullshit whatevers so you may have to do this through bios (im probably wrong (but not about the unlocked voltage cards))
Ahh, can someone help me, while doing this all of a sudden my GPU will not run any after than the minimum speed! it now runs at 405mhz even though i set msi afterburner to 750, and it wont go anywhere. Someone help please!
@kubaa19 Its pointless overclocking entry level GPUs. The performance gain is so minuscule that it is not worth it. I am pretty positive it is just for NVIDIA and AMD.
@zZNinjaAssassinZz got to settings and on all the tab up top there will be capture or somehting like that havent used in a while but very good dosent kill ur pc like fraps etc try it out
@Games4LifeSWE Yes that is true. You need to be really careful overclocking your computer. If you are getting 50fps+ and no freezes there is no need to overclock :)
@Games4LifeSWE Yes it is definitely possible to kill your graphics card. That is why when you are overclocking you need to use your head and be careful.

Is there a way to make the shader unlock and i have a msi 6970 lightning edition which is fast as balls i should add but it keeps shiting out on games even with the stock over clock and fucking msi
Kombuster wont work and it is made for over clocking and core Clock is 1000 mhz
here are some real good overclocking specs: i got these numbers directly from msi afterburner from my gtx 550 ti. stock clock speed: 1075mv-900mhz core clock-1800mhz shader-memory clock 2052. dont forget to go into settings and set your fan curve. i bring my fans up to 100% by 50 degrees. the yellow lines represent the lower and upper fan limits set by the bios in the card.
@MrSofoklis12 Yep I talk about that in the video. Watch it right through and you will find out what to do. You need to be more careful and on most cards you don't have memory voltage to adjust so you cant go as far.
Hey man, thank's heaps for the tutorial, I really appreciate the clear instruction. I have a question, though I know you are a busy man.
I'm running a GTX 570 and followed your guide to overclock significantly without a major heat increase, but the OC is unstable in games. I have tried using both MSI afterburner and Gigabytes own OC program, but I haven't been able to change the voltage manually to try and stabilise it.
The card is OC'd to begin with, any ideas on how to increase voltage? :)
@FlyHigh773 No I wouldn't bother over-clocking anything less than a GTX 550 or 6870. Just because the difference it will make is not worth the risk or the effort.
@SingularityComputers um what do you mean i have a processor that is 2007 the intel 2 quad core that was 2.83ghz i clocked to 3.4 ghz so just becuse it is old that dont mean much
@disturbed4everluke Sometimes it can get worse. The newer the chip the better it will OC in general. So a GPU that old will probably OC maybe 20-30mhz max. From that OC you will only get about a 5-10% performance increase if you're lucky, but run the risks of overclocking. In the scheme of things that is an almost negligible increase. Unless you are playing ancient games on Windows XP. It depends what you are using it for.
@TheeHardstyleRavers There is not much point because its an entry level GPU, but you can give it a go as long as OC isn't disabled completely. Be careful of heat though, watch the temps carefully.
@SingularityComputers i used amd overdrive to overclock my hd 4200 (intergraded but you still can overclock) i get BSOD i clock only 200mhz BSOD then i gave up of gpu i overclocked my phennom ii x6 2.9ghz- ooverclocked all 6 cores 3 ghz then BSOD why?
@microsoftflightfan1 It depends on the manufacturer and it also depends on how you kill the card. If you kill the card from overclocking it can sometimes be quite obvious and in that case they may not cover it. From my experience manufactures usually dont put much time into investigating how the card died and they just go ahead and replace it.
@SingularityComputers Hi, me again, I tried adjusting the fan speed and nothing seems to be happening, even though the msi afterburner reads that the fan speed goes up, the temperatures don´t drop at all. do you think you could help? if so , that would be great, please reply.
@microsoftflightfan1 If you increase the fan speed it will make hardly any difference to your idle temps, but it will make a noticable difference to your load temps. I would just leave your fan speed on auto and focus on overclocking.
Hi,I have a GTX 560M 1.5gb with 192 mem. bus. Default settings are graphic/processor/memory : 775/1550/1250.
Someone on the net overclocked a GTX 560m 2gb with 128 mem.bus, I followed their settings of 920/1840/1550. (link: bestgaminglaptop[dot]net/general/gtx-560m-overclocking-128-bit-version/)
Is this safe?
I also cant adjust the voltage and fan speed with this gfx. Is this normal?
@microsoftflightfan1 I wouldn't be pushing it too far. Probably about 20-30Mhz to be safe. It just depends how much experience you have had with overclocking. Every chip is different, so you just have to find its limits for yourself.
@grand433 You just need to enable it in MSI Afterburners settings. If that doesn't work then come back here and ask me how to unlock voltage control and I will talk you through it. Another possibility is that your graphics card has it locked, if its a bit older or entry level.
great video. i bought the msi 580 twin frozr II. im hopeing to overclock it just before new batman and battlefield 3 comes out. that vid u made was great. il overclock them 50 Mhz at a time with the core voltage aswell. iv got a 750 watt power supply so power not an issue. could i just turn up the voltage up fully and then bring everything up 50 at a time?? the card itself cost me 437 euro so im terrified of breaking it. AMD overdrive was so much easier cos program did everything. Thanks
I'm tweaking my card right now and i see that you have your Core Voltage bar fairly high, mine how ever is just zero. I'm just wondering if i should increase it for any reason. I have a gtx 470 btw. thanks
@MrDaisyJuice You must have skipped through the video. I said to OC the memory in in the same way that you did the core clock. This might sound bad in a single sentence but its explained properly in the video. People please don't comment unless you have watched the entire video. Otherwise I have to continue to explain things that are already covered in the video.
@leonborodaty Maybe today is your fools day, because you are one... This is how you overclock. Except that a higher core clock doesn´t always give better performance. So try to test you performance with benchmarks.
@teringikbengoed Increasing your core clock always gives you better performance (except in some anomalous situations) until you reach a certain point where increasing the clocks further does nothing for performance and most of the time decreases it. Most often heat will stop you before you get to this point though. Its not worth mentioning in a beginners guide, there are thousands of details like this which cant be covered all the time. But I agree, always test your performance with benchmarks.
@UziForEver You can try going into your Afterburner installation folder and editing the MSIAfterburner.cfg file. You need to change 'UnofficialOverclockingMode=0' to =1. This might give you some more overclocking headroom. Otherwise you could try some other overclocking apps. Your card might be locked, so if none of the above works then 775 is it for you.
@ZOXA77 Go into the MSI Afterburner settings. On the first page is an option called 'Unlock Voltage Control', enable it. If you have already done this then make sure you have the latest version of Afterburner. Which graphics card do you have??
@SingularityComputers yeah i did changed the setting and i tried more than one version the last one from the msi site and the beta and an older one and nothing unlocked the voltage :(
Would this be more dangerous to do on a laptop? I have a 5470 hd AMD card.

Someone on the net overclocked a GTX 560m 2gb with 128 mem.bus, I followed their settings of 920/1840/1550. (link: bestgaminglaptop[dot]net/general/gtx-560m-overclocking-128-bit-version/)
Is this safe?
I also cant adjust the voltage and fan speed with this gfx. Is this normal?
Thanks.

i have a Club nvidia gts 450, how much should i overclock it?
microsoftflightfan1 4 months ago
@microsoftflightfan1 I wouldn't be pushing it too far. Probably about 20-30Mhz to be safe. It just depends how much experience you have had with overclocking. Every chip is different, so you just have to find its limits for yourself.

@SingularityComputers thanks :)

@SingularityComputers oh, one more thing, should i increase the fan speed?
microsoftflightfan1 4 months ago
@microsoftflightfan1 If it gets hot, then increase the fan speed. Hot as in getting close to, or up over 70C.

how high can i go on Celsius on overclocking
grand433 5 months ago
@grand433 Don't go any higher than 85C.
SingularityComputers 5 months ago
is it bad that i cant adjust my voltage?
grand433 5 months ago

Thanks
Pelor188 5 months ago
@Pelor188 Do not DO NOT turn the voltage to max. Dont touch it until you have stability issues and your gpu needs more voltage

I'm tweaking my card right now and i see that you have your Core Voltage bar fairly high, mine how ever is just zero. I'm just wondering if i should increase it for any reason. I have a gtx 470 btw. thanks

Is there a reason why you didn't over clock the memory clock?
MrDaisyJuice 8 months ago
@MrDaisyJuice You must have skipped through the video. I said to OC the memory in in the same way that you did the core clock. This might sound bad in a single sentence but its explained properly in the video. People please don't comment unless you have watched the entire video. Otherwise I have to continue to explain things that are already covered in the video.
SingularityComputers 8 months ago
@SingularityComputers I watched the whole video-no skipping. Just misunderstood you. Thank you for clearing that up.

People, noticed the date. April fools day! nice try dude
leonborodaty 8 months ago
@leonborodaty Maybe today is your fools day, because you are one... This is how you overclock. Except that a higher core clock doesn´t always give better performance. So try to test you performance with benchmarks.
teringikbengoed 7 months ago
@teringikbengoed Increasing your core clock always gives you better performance (except in some anomalous situations) until you reach a certain point where increasing the clocks further does nothing for performance and most of the time decreases it. Most often heat will stop you before you get to this point though. Its not worth mentioning in a beginners guide, there are thousands of details like this which cant be covered all the time. But I agree, always test your performance with benchmarks.

I got an ati 5850 and i cant amp up my coreclock mhz speed thingym more than 775, is that normal? + my shader clock i locked :/
Please answer fast ^^
UziForEver 9 months ago
@UziForEver You can try going into your Afterburner installation folder and editing the MSIAfterburner.cfg file. You need to change 'UnofficialOverclockingMode=0' to =1. This might give you some more overclocking headroom. Otherwise you could try some other overclocking apps. Your card might be locked, so if none of the above works then 775 is it for you.
SingularityComputers 9 months ago
@UziForEver AMD cards dont have an shader chip
so what do you need to overclock?

my voltage in locked !! how i can unlock it ? i tried some methods and nothing worked
ZOXA77 10 months ago
@ZOXA77 Go into the MSI Afterburner settings. On the first page is an option called 'Unlock Voltage Control', enable it. If you have already done this then make sure you have the latest version of Afterburner. Which graphics card do you have??
SingularityComputers 10 months ago
@SingularityComputers yeah i did changed the setting and i tried more than one version the last one from the msi site and the beta and an older one and nothing unlocked the voltage :(
ZOXA77 10 months ago
@ZOXA77 Yeah it depends on your card, some cards you cant.
SingularityComputers 10 months ago
@SingularityComputers i have ASUS GTX 570 DirectCU i don't know if it support or not
anyway thanks i will try to change the volt by another way
