  • Would this be more dangerous to do on a laptop? I have a 5470 hd AMD card.

  • well i ran across something that mindblasted me. so the stock settings on the 6970 are 880Mhzcore/1375MHzmem/1.175V. So i was just doing stress tests and i found two funny things. at 990MHzcore and 1000MHz stock mem @ 1.210V i get about 65FPS on furmark 800x600 but when i increase core clock by 5 it goes up to 71FPS and i heard this could be mem error checking but i didnt touch the memory nor does overvolting/increasing the memory help.

  • i find the easiest way to overclock my 6970 is to run furmark in windowed mode and increase clocks/ voltage/mem over a 5 minute period each 5 minutes i increase core clock by 5mhz cause 6970 suck at overclocking and it's hard to tell were instability comes from this was if i increase a slider and it starts to artifact i know exactley what it is.

  • I clocked my memory to 1.2ghz and it started going nuts! im glad it didn't save those settings!

    i've set it to 1ghz now :|

  • over cocking sounds nice

  • I have MSI Afterburner Beta 12 and for voltage its at 0 and when i move the bar it goes +1,+2, etc. Is there a way where i can see what volts its being set to? I am using a MSI GTX 570.

  • msi won't let me go past my default clock speed, I have a and 6750m 1gb can any one help?

  • Whats the stock memory clock (mhz) for the R6850 cyclone GD5 because on the specs it says 4400mhz but on the afterburner its 1100mhz, can anyone help me?

  • my default clocks on geforce 560 ---- special edition, is on 2004 core clock mhz. and 1640 mhz on shader clock and 840 mhz on memory speed. i get a yellow line on the core clock, i downgrade it to the lowest i can wich is 1500 and its still yellow. i think these yellow and green lines mean thats its ok-too high settings dont know. but its getting a few problems

  • @92Cope And i did MSI kombustor... 12 fps 15 is max in all .... my score is i think 1300 or lower cant remember :S

  • I bought a preclocked GTX 560. It appears that I'm getting horizontal flickering when i turn on video games, and I think I should clock it down... How do I do that?

  • @nikoletina1994 You do the exact thing he does in the video, just the other way around. Basically you just push the slider to the left instead of sliding it to the right.

  • ahh yeah im a noob. but when i move the slider on msi afterburner it resets back to the original position

  • What will be the best stats for me? I7 2600k - gtx 560´. Please help!!!

  • @Juhl1337 dude you have to tell more abouth your gtx 560 like brand, clocks, voltage use gpuz and msi to find out the speed of your card

  • @metalmarx123 where can i find this info? I really sucks at this :)

  • How do you know when you have reached your maximum memory clock?

  • faster* not after

  • Ahh, can someone help me, while doing this all of a sudden my GPU will not run any after than the minimum speed! it now runs at 405mhz even though i set msi afterburner to 750, and it wont go anywhere. Someone help please!

  • My core voltage on my card is like grey and I can't adjust it my card is a 6850 HD radeon is there something wrong?

  • i cant change my core voltage or shader clock and my other settings are maxed how do i fix this

  • i have nvidia 6100 geforce nforce 405 can i do it???

  • Does it work on a Intel Hd Graphics ?

  • @kubaa19 Its pointless overclocking entry level GPUs. The performance gain is so minuscule that it is not worth it. I am pretty positive it is just for NVIDIA and AMD.

  • @SingularityComputers Noob question xD-->AMD is ATI right? So It's a good idea to overclock an ATI mobilty radeon 5870?

  • @cgDominion Yeah but i got Vaio VPCEB3F4E,is it possible to change the graphic card .. i heard the possibility of doing it on laptops its very small

  • @kubaa19 probably cannot with a computer you bought from a brand like sony or toshiba or samsung

  • @kubaa19 only nvidia.

  • @kubaa19 do you have the intel graphics media accelerator? no you cant overclock cuz its an onboard gpu

  • Do you have to have an ATI Radeon? I have an Intel Chipset Family, so will that work?

  • GTX 460 1gb Here's my overclocked settings: Core voltage = 1025 (mV) Core clock = 900 (Mhz) Shader clock = 1800 (Mhz) Memory Clock = 2000 (Mhz) Original settings: Core Voltage = 950 (mV) Core Clock = 680 (Mhz) Shader Clock = 1360 (Mhz) Memory Clock = 1700 (Mhz)
  • What would happen if you increase fan speed quite a bit???

  • @opklnm88 I think it would make more noise but... tempature will lower...

  • wats the limit for ibm i have a 1.5 ghz i want a 1.7 ghz so i can play tf2 is that ok??

  • hmm

  • MSI IS ALSO GOOD TO RECORD GAME FOOTAGE

  • @fabz881 how ?

  • Comment removed

  • @zZNinjaAssassinZz got to settings and on all the tab up top there will be capture or somehting like that havent used in a while but very good dosent kill ur pc like fraps etc try it out

  • @fabz881 Thank you :D

  • i hava an ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series so is it safe if a increase like 5 or 3 more % then defualt because i dont wanna kill my computer :(

  • My shader clock is not there to be slided? You know why, cant change any thing to the shader clock

  • wow you guys note that you could be fooled becuz ths is from apr1st XD

  • Thank you for a great tutorial. Now i can actually do it correctly thanks again man.

  • This is so intimidating for me xD Is it able to fuck this up so badly that you instantly kill your graphics card?:O

  • @Games4LifeSWE Yes that is true. You need to be really careful overclocking your computer. If you are getting 50fps+ and no freezes there is no need to overclock :)

  • @Games4LifeSWE Yes it is definitely possible to kill your graphics card. That is why when you are overclocking you need to use your head and be careful.

  • i proly have worst fucking G-card in world -.-

ati 4350.. i can every game with damn screen freezing, not full but for example i run in wow and go normaly than slow than speed up then slow then normal etc... i dont even wanna start on it performace in SWTOR... i am pissed and try everything and nothing help gcard was pice of shit since the day i bought it.... i am going Gforce for good FUCK OFF ATI!!!!

  • @sakaranubie ATI really isnt that bad. If you know the right graphics cards to get. right now i have ATI Radeon x800 and its pretty good.

  • is that safe??? O__O

  • Is there a way to make the shader unlock and i have a msi 6970 lightning edition which is fast as balls i should add but it keeps shiting out on games even with the stock over clock and fucking msi

Kombuster wont work and it is made for over clocking and core Clock is 1000 mhz

  • After i installed it, i opned it and it said "Fail to initialize display driver wrapper!" Help pls

  • here are some real good overclocking specs: i got these numbers directly from msi afterburner from my gtx 550 ti. stock clock speed: 1075mv-900mhz core clock-1800mhz shader-memory clock 2052. dont forget to go into settings and set your fan curve. i bring my fans up to 100% by 50 degrees. the yellow lines represent the lower and upper fan limits set by the bios in the card.

  • NVM I am an idiot. Settings> GPU 2

    Doh!

  • I have 2 GTX560s but MSI AB is only overclocking 1. How do I change that?

  • @toxicfarts911 idk.. try taking out 1 card and overclock them separately?

  • @toxicfarts911 msi afterburner is for monitoring and overclocking.

  • and the fan speed too

  • my shader clock is 0 ...is that normal!!!

  • @JABRANE4 i think amd video cards don't have a shader clock

  • @JABRANE4 u probably have an ati radeon card.. i think only nvidia cards can adjust their shader clock

  • @don2xify i have a nivada card!!!

  • @Vypa1997 - Yep I have the option ticked on MSI Afterburner, yet it still isn't available.

@MsPart01 - It's not that the card won't run any games, I just want a better framerate.

    @SingularityComputers - Any ideas, man?

  • hey what about mempry clock? should i touch it?

  • @MrSofoklis12 Yep I talk about that in the video. Watch it right through and you will find out what to do. You need to be more careful and on most cards you don't have memory voltage to adjust so you cant go as far.

  • @SingularityComputers when you say degrees at 1:42...you mean fahrenheit right?

  • @SingularityComputers why wont kombustor run on my pc....any help?

  • Hey man, thank's heaps for the tutorial, I really appreciate the clear instruction. I have a question, though I know you are a busy man.

I'm running a GTX 570 and followed your guide to overclock significantly without a major heat increase, but the OC is unstable in games. I have tried using both MSI afterburner and Gigabytes own OC program, but I haven't been able to change the voltage manually to try and stabilise it.

The card is OC'd to begin with, any ideas on how to increase voltage? :)

  • @PhatHakk Why would you overclock a Gtx 570? :OO Which game cant it run?

  • @PhatHakk did you watch the hole video near the end he says how to unblock voltage control so you can increase the voltage

  • @FlyHigh773 No I wouldn't bother over-clocking anything less than a GTX 550 or 6870. Just because the difference it will make is not worth the risk or the effort.

  • can i overlock ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series?

  • @ROPZKAH Its not worth it, the performance gain would be minuscule in the scheme of things.

  • dude hi i really wont to play my games so does this work for intel graphics card??

  • @TehMcBasics No its not worth overclocking entry level graphics. The difference it will make will be unnoticeable.

  • @SingularityComputers Okay :( but thanks anyway it helped alot tho :D

  • lol i kept minimizing this and looking at my taskbar for a steam message xD

  • 01:15

    steam :D

  • would nvidia card work ?

  • should i do it with a amd radeon 6750m?

  • @TiagoAppreviews No I wouldn't overclock any entry level or laptop GPUs.

  • @SingularityComputers ok its the standard imac graphic card

  • @SingularityComputers should i overclock my geforce 9800?

  • @disturbed4everluke You can give it a go if. Its not going to make much of a difference though. Not on a GPU that old.

  • @SingularityComputers um what do you mean i have a processor that is 2007 the intel 2 quad core that was 2.83ghz i clocked to 3.4 ghz so just becuse it is old that dont mean much

  • @disturbed4everluke This is about GPUs not CPUs.

  • @SingularityComputers yea but it still will get better right?

  • @disturbed4everluke Sometimes it can get worse. The newer the chip the better it will OC in general. So a GPU that old will probably OC maybe 20-30mhz max. From that OC you will only get about a 5-10% performance increase if you're lucky, but run the risks of overclocking. In the scheme of things that is an almost negligible increase. Unless you are playing ancient games on Windows XP. It depends what you are using it for.

  • If I am using an ATI 4350 and I just want to change fan speed to 50% will it affect anything in a negative way?

  • can i increase the speed of my zotac geforce gtx 580?

  • So can i overclock my Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5470?

  • @TheeHardstyleRavers There is not much point because its an entry level GPU, but you can give it a go as long as OC isn't disabled completely. Be careful of heat though, watch the temps carefully.

  • @SingularityComputers i used amd overdrive to overclock my hd 4200 (intergraded but you still can overclock) i get BSOD i clock only 200mhz BSOD then i gave up of gpu i overclocked my phennom ii x6 2.9ghz- ooverclocked all 6 cores 3 ghz then BSOD why?

  • Heya, how do i unlock core voltage?

Got a N570GTX Twin Frozr III Power Editon, Overclock edition

The core voltage thing is grayed out in afterburner.. so how do i unlock it?

    Thanks.

  • how to unlink the shader clock/core clock on my afterburner?

  • @Crawlerz2468 Theres a little link tab right next to them both. It actually links them in the UI.

  • will overclocking ruin my warranty?

  • @microsoftflightfan1 It depends on the manufacturer and it also depends on how you kill the card. If you kill the card from overclocking it can sometimes be quite obvious and in that case they may not cover it. From my experience manufactures usually dont put much time into investigating how the card died and they just go ahead and replace it.

  • @SingularityComputers Hi, me again, I tried adjusting the fan speed and nothing seems to be happening, even though the msi afterburner reads that the fan speed goes up, the temperatures don´t drop at all. do you think you could help? if so , that would be great, please reply.

  • @microsoftflightfan1 If you increase the fan speed it will make hardly any difference to your idle temps, but it will make a noticable difference to your load temps. I would just leave your fan speed on auto and focus on overclocking.

  • @SingularityComputers thanks :)

  • Hi,I have a GTX 560M 1.5gb with 192 mem. bus. Default settings are graphic/processor/memory : 775/1550/1250.

Someone on the net overclocked a GTX 560m 2gb with 128 mem.bus, I followed their settings of 920/1840/1550. (link: bestgaminglaptop[dot]net/general/gtx-560m-overclocking-128-bit-version/)

    Is this safe?

I also cant adjust the voltage and fan speed with this gfx. Is this normal?

    Thanks.

  • i have a Club nvidia gts 450, how much should i overclock it?

  • @microsoftflightfan1 I wouldn't be pushing it too far. Probably about 20-30Mhz to be safe. It just depends how much experience you have had with overclocking. Every chip is different, so you just have to find its limits for yourself.

  • @SingularityComputers thanks :)

  • @SingularityComputers oh, one more thing, should i increase the fan speed?

  • @microsoftflightfan1 If it gets hot, then increase the fan speed. Hot as in getting close to, or up over 70C.

  • @SingularityComputers thanks :)

  • I swear his max degrees was at 97

  • Why can't edit my core voltage? i can't adjust it.

  • how high can i go on Celsius on overclocking

  • @grand433 Don't go any higher than 85C.

  • is it bad that i cant adjust my voltage?

  • @grand433 You just need to enable it in MSI Afterburners settings. If that doesn't work then come back here and ask me how to unlock voltage control and I will talk you through it. Another possibility is that your graphics card has it locked, if its a bit older or entry level.

  • love the progams

  • what are your specs?

  • @grand433 For full details on my systems and specs, hardware reviews and a whole lot more, check out my channel.

  • great thanks

  • great video. i bought the msi 580 twin frozr II. im hopeing to overclock it just before new batman and battlefield 3 comes out. that vid u made was great. il overclock them 50 Mhz at a time with the core voltage aswell. iv got a 750 watt power supply so power not an issue. could i just turn up the voltage up fully and then bring everything up 50 at a time?? the card itself cost me 437 euro so im terrified of breaking it. AMD overdrive was so much easier cos program did everything. Thanks

  • @Pelor188 Do not DO NOT turn the voltage to max. Dont touch it until you have stability issues and your gpu needs more voltage

  • great video, alot of help thanks

  • i have a laptop. should i change anything?

im using it for editing and minecraft

also my laptop is extremely hot all the time 95-103c, it has always been like that but i cant change the fan speed

  • @pivertoxx That's very hot, I would be getting a laptop cooler and running it on the cooler as much as possible.

  • @pivertoxx clean ur air radiator i had same prob

  • Whats your steam account name :D ?

  • I'm tweaking my card right now and i see that you have your Core Voltage bar fairly high, mine how ever is just zero. I'm just wondering if i should increase it for any reason. I have a gtx 470 btw. thanks

  • @xXJoveXx or rather I can't change my Core Voltage At all.

  • @xXJoveXx Unlock voltage control in the settings.

  • @SingularityComputers Settings of my computer or Afterburner?

  • @xXJoveXx Afterburner.

  • Is there a reason why you didn't over clock the memory clock?

  • @MrDaisyJuice You must have skipped through the video. I said to OC the memory in in the same way that you did the core clock. This might sound bad in a single sentence but its explained properly in the video. People please don't comment unless you have watched the entire video. Otherwise I have to continue to explain things that are already covered in the video.

  • @SingularityComputers I watched the whole video-no skipping. Just misunderstood you. Thank you for clearing that up.

  • People, noticed the date. April fools day! nice try dude

  • @leonborodaty Maybe today is your fools day, because you are one... This is how you overclock. Except that a higher core clock doesn´t always give better performance. So try to test you performance with benchmarks.

  • @teringikbengoed Increasing your core clock always gives you better performance (except in some anomalous situations) until you reach a certain point where increasing the clocks further does nothing for performance and most of the time decreases it. Most often heat will stop you before you get to this point though. Its not worth mentioning in a beginners guide, there are thousands of details like this which cant be covered all the time. But I agree, always test your performance with benchmarks.

  • I got an ati 5850 and i cant amp up my coreclock mhz speed thingym more than 775, is that normal? + my shader clock i locked :/

    Please answer fast ^^

  • @UziForEver You can try going into your Afterburner installation folder and editing the MSIAfterburner.cfg file. You need to change 'UnofficialOverclockingMode=0' to =1. This might give you some more overclocking headroom. Otherwise you could try some other overclocking apps. Your card might be locked, so if none of the above works then 775 is it for you.

  • @UziForEver AMD cards dont have an shader chip

so what do you need to overclock?

  • @SuperPowerPatty Core and Memory.

  • my voltage in locked !! how i can unlock it ? i tried some methods and nothing worked

  • @ZOXA77 Go into the MSI Afterburner settings. On the first page is an option called 'Unlock Voltage Control', enable it. If you have already done this then make sure you have the latest version of Afterburner. Which graphics card do you have??

  • @SingularityComputers yeah i did changed the setting and i tried more than one version the last one from the msi site and the beta and an older one and nothing unlocked the voltage :(

  • @ZOXA77 Yeah it depends on your card, some cards you cant.

  • @SingularityComputers i have ASUS GTX 570 DirectCU i don't know if it support or not

anyway thanks i will try to change the volt by another way

  • This was really helpful. Thank you!

  • nice
