F22 is amazing aircraft and it has some advantages over SU-37 (it's pretty) and it comes with 100K miles wing to wing warranty. For those who ignores specs on SU-37 that it's faster, more maneuverable, now equipped with two radars to detect F22 and controlled by the best pilots in the world, i have sad news for you. Sure F22 is 'stealthy'. But there is one thing that is unavoidable. Any aircraft, including F22, that is traveling at supersonic speeds has its skin heated. And it gets REALLY hot.
New IR based anti air weapons are capable of detecting this heat, including any supersonic Raptor going by. The B2 Spirit achieves a lot of its stealth via mission planning and superb instruments that detect radar radiation, and so it avoids radar, rather than being invisible to it. This might be the same for F22.
why people keep talking about cancelled and grounded planes like the ones in usa??? Sukhoi's PAK FA T-50 beats the F22 in all aspects. I used to admire the F22 but then I realized that it's a failure, it even can fly in rain, need maintenance and minor reparation after each flight. Also the avionics and radar systems is inferior than T-50, it has longer ranges and is faster. The most amazing is that T-50 cost less than F22. :(

It took the rest of the world more than 30 years to get an aircraft that could compete with the F-15 variations. Even now that thing is one of the best fighters/multirole jets out there. All they did was upgrade the software, the F-15 can now go stealth.

I'd give the Su-33 the edge inside 2 km for more precise gun aiming, the F-22 the edge from 7 km out for less radar and infrared observability. Pilot-quality differences could easily counterbalance these advantages, however.

The F-22 is still by far the most technologically advanced fighter jet used on current warfare. Stealth technology makes it near impossible to find on radar, which means engagement against one is limited to sight range, and with the AIM-120s that the Raptor carries, the chances of a dogfight even beginning are nil. You have to see it to know it's there, and the onboard radar system of the Raptor plus the AMRAAM's capabilities means B.V.R. engagement. To put it politely, goodbye Sukhois.

And they are being used for testing not combat capable. In addition the USAF has way more legacy fighters than russia does.

@natsplit you need to go read a book kid. you will find that the 2D TV is far superior to the 3D vectoring. Look at the throw value for each. 2D is around 30 degrees. 3D is only around 16 degrees. 2D provides vectoring in the 2 axis that count and are used in combat. Pitch and Roll. Vectoring in yaw is not necessary. Plus, 2D Nozzle has stealth characteristics. Educate yourself so you do not look foolish when you post here.

The 3d vectoring is however published to be 15 degrees. The nozzles are offset by 32 degrees in the horizontal plane. but that is not their deflection rather their placement. The 3d nozzle deflection is 15 degrees. A full 5 degrees less than the F-22. So my point is still valid. And, yes sukhoi is thinking of upgrading to 2d nozzel.
You wikipedia information might be wrong. From the official website of the Indian air force:

@natsplit I see the article you are referring to, yet if you go to Saturns official web site you will see they state the nozzles only move 15 degrees. maybe they are adding the deflection of the 2 engines. In either case, it does not matter because the 2D nozzle provides pitch(both nozzles deflecting in same direction). 2D provides roll(each nozzle deflecting in opposite directions). And differential engine thrust plus large vertical rudders on F-22 provide yaw control. TV is not needed for yaw.

This may help: The thrust vectoring engines on some Su-30 variants have nozzles with turn axes positioned at 32-deg angle to each other. The differential ±15-degree deflection of the engines' asymmetric nozzles enables pitch/yaw thrust vectoring control. Depending on the manoeuvre to be performed, nozzles deflections can be synchronised with or differ from the deflections of horizontal tail planes.

I knew about the theories about inducing plasma ahead of the aircraft with the end of reducing drag and increasing speed but never heard about the stealth properties of plasma, I imagine that the electric nature of plasma could interfere with the radio signals from radar but the disturbance caused by so much electric activity could be detected by itself. Is there some study about it?
that is out of the question, my point is to determine in a close range dogfight one to one with well trained pilots (same skill level) which has the advantage? and I wouldn´t match the F22 to the old SU27 I would do that with the new T50. That would be really interesting dogfight
@Nefariusi Yes, you see su27-su37 at air show doing stall maneuvers, which they do very well. This is low speed maneuverability. At high speed the same aircraft su27-su37 have poor maneuverability. LOL, you do not see this at the air show. This is one reason pak fa is a departure from basic airframe plan of su27. Problem with su27 family is to much tail lift. Typical dogfight: Long range radar detection, maneuver at high speed for advantage, get into missile range, lock on and fire (cont)
@eag11e Of course, this lock on gives away your position. But, if all goes well missiles will be impacting enemy before he can react. If this does not work, then planes continue to maneuver as they merge. Still at high speed but bleeding speed as they seek advantage. Short range missiles employed, and electronic counter measures, chaff, flares. If this fails, still speeding towards each other for merge. Planes merge using cannons and tactics. Maybe friendly plane in trail is now engaging...:)
at high speeds any aircraft looses maneuverability cause of the high Gs (even if the plane can take it the pilot can´t). Hi tail lift will result in high vertical stability but vector thrust and setting the hinge next to the aerodynamic center of the lifting surface would solve the problem easily. Anyway super-maneuverability I believe it would only be useful at the end of high energy consuming maneuvers. Crossing the plane at 300 knots would tear it apart
@Nefariusi Yeh, the canards on the su37 were an attempt to fix this aft CL problem of su27. But, they caused other problems. Notice they removed canards from production su35. Canards on su37 were a bandaid fix that didn't play out. pak fat50 does not employ canards, but has similar plane form as F-22. However, pakfat50 uses moveable lerxes above intakes. Agian, I believe this is a bandaid fix for an aerodynamic problem. Because the lerxes pretty much make the plane non-stealth.
the radar cross section from behind might have been compromised by the vector thrust system I don´t know about the thermal track on the T50 (I know they design F22´s nozzles to minimize thermal track) but it must still be pretty agile in close combat and hard to get in a radar. Remember Russians dominated super-maneuverability long before the US and they are the best in the world in Aerodynamics (I have studied a lot of Aerodynamics in my career) so I think the T50 must have good characteristics
@Nefariusi Oh, of course don't get me wrong. The T50 I'm sure will have fantastic characteristics. I was just pointing out some things i had noticed. But, yes Sukhoi and Russia would not be investing in T50 if they felt it would not be a winner. Plus allot of knowledge was gained from su37 and su47 airframes that have been incorporated into the T-50. I do like the weapons bay in between the engines, allot of pluses there. @Nefariusi I read allot from different sources, most information on internet is biased one way or other. It is best to read Defense Publications, both Russian and American. I read that a flat stealth 2D Nozzle will be tested for pak fa. Do not be caught in the misconception that 3D nozzle is better. It is not. 3D Nozzle has less throw than 2D Nozzle and of course is not stealth. I am interested in Plasma Stealth. I am not able to find much information, but I know tests have been done.
All of this is true, but that is the way you design Air Forces, small countries who can´t support such a mega-air force must rely more on the capabilities of the individual aircraft (and of course pilots skills) to increase pilots surviving chances and mission success, if we isolate the factors to only the fighters in question it´s the dogfight that defines the better aircraft (and pilot which makes it even harder to finally tell about the aircraft) in air-forces none can match the US

For those who ignores specs on SU-37 that it's faster, more maneuverable, now equipped with two radars to detect F22 and controlled by the best pilots in the world, i have sad news for you. Sure F22 is 'stealthy'. But there is one thing that is unavoidable. Any aircraft, including F22, that is traveling at supersonic speeds has its skin heated. And it gets REALLY hot.
New IR based anti air weapons are capable of detecting this heat, including any supersonic Raptor going by. The B2 Spirit achieves a lot of its stealth via mission planning and superb instruments that detect radar radiation, and so it avoids radar, rather than being invisible to it. This might be the same for F22.

Sukhoi's PAK FA T-50 beats the F22 in all aspects. I used to admire the F22 but then I realized that it's a failure, it even can fly in rain, need maintenance and minor reparation after each flight. Also the avionics and radar systems is inferior than T-50, it has longer ranges and is faster. The most amazing is that T-50 cost less than F22. :(

It took the rest of the world more than 30 years to get an aircraft that could compete with the F-15 variations. Even now that thing is one of the best fighters/multirole jets out there. All they did was upgrade the software, the F-15 can now go stealth.

The F-22 is still by far the most technologically advanced fighter jet used on current warfare. Stealth technology makes it near impossible to find on radar, which means engagement against one is limited to sight range, and with the AIM-120s that the Raptor carries, the chances of a dogfight even beginning are nil. You have to see it to know it's there, and the onboard radar system of the Raptor plus the AMRAAM's capabilities means B.V.R. engagement. To put it politely, goodbye Sukhois.

@natsplit you need to go read a book kid. you will find that the 2D TV is far superior to the 3D vectoring. Look at the throw value for each. 2D is around 30 degrees. 3D is only around 16 degrees. 2D provides vectoring in the 2 axis that count and are used in combat. Pitch and Roll. Vectoring in yaw is not necessary. Plus, 2D Nozzle has stealth characteristics. Educate yourself so you do not look foolish when you post here.

The 3d vectoring is however published to be 15 degrees. The nozzles are offset by 32 degrees in the horizontal plane. but that is not their deflection rather their placement. The 3d nozzle deflection is 15 degrees. A full 5 degrees less than the F-22. So my point is still valid. And, yes sukhoi is thinking of upgrading to 2d nozzel.

@natsplit I see the article you are referring to, yet if you go to Saturns official web site you will see they state the nozzles only move 15 degrees. maybe they are adding the deflection of the 2 engines. In either case, it does not matter because the 2D nozzle provides pitch(both nozzles deflecting in same direction). 2D provides roll(each nozzle deflecting in opposite directions). And differential engine thrust plus large vertical rudders on F-22 provide yaw control. TV is not needed for yaw.

This may help: The thrust vectoring engines on some Su-30 variants have nozzles with turn axes positioned at 32-deg angle to each other. The differential ±15-degree deflection of the engines' asymmetric nozzles enables pitch/yaw thrust vectoring control. Depending on the manoeuvre to be performed, nozzles deflections can be synchronised with or differ from the deflections of horizontal tail planes.

Do you realize it was never equipped for combat, only testing. su47 was never put into production! The old flanker is a gen 4 legacy fighter. F-15, F-16, and F-18 are more than a match for it. All of these aircraft are flying all over sky in mid east. Why does russia not fly it's flanker against American legacy fighters? Because, it can't!

I knew about the theories about inducing plasma ahead of the aircraft with the end of reducing drag and increasing speed but never heard about the stealth properties of plasma, I imagine that the electric nature of plasma could interfere with the radio signals from radar but the disturbance caused by so much electric activity could be detected by itself. Is there some study about it?

that is out of the question, my point is to determine in a close range dogfight one to one with well trained pilots (same skill level) which has the advantage? and I wouldn´t match the F22 to the old SU27 I would do that with the new T50. That would be really interesting dogfight

@Nefariusi Yes, you see su27-su37 at air show doing stall maneuvers, which they do very well. This is low speed maneuverability. At high speed the same aircraft su27-su37 have poor maneuverability. LOL, you do not see this at the air show. This is one reason pak fa is a departure from basic airframe plan of su27. Problem with su27 family is to much tail lift. Typical dogfight: Long range radar detection, maneuver at high speed for advantage, get into missile range, lock on and fire (cont)

@eag11e Of course, this lock on gives away your position. But, if all goes well missiles will be impacting enemy before he can react. If this does not work, then planes continue to maneuver as they merge. Still at high speed but bleeding speed as they seek advantage. Short range missiles employed, and electronic counter measures, chaff, flares. If this fails, still speeding towards each other for merge. Planes merge using cannons and tactics. Maybe friendly plane in trail is now engaging...:)

at high speeds any aircraft looses maneuverability cause of the high Gs (even if the plane can take it the pilot can´t). Hi tail lift will result in high vertical stability but vector thrust and setting the hinge next to the aerodynamic center of the lifting surface would solve the problem easily. Anyway super-maneuverability I believe it would only be useful at the end of high energy consuming maneuvers. Crossing the plane at 300 knots would tear it apart

@Nefariusi Yeh, the canards on the su37 were an attempt to fix this aft CL problem of su27. But, they caused other problems. Notice they removed canards from production su35. Canards on su37 were a bandaid fix that didn't play out. pak fat50 does not employ canards, but has similar plane form as F-22. However, pakfat50 uses moveable lerxes above intakes. Agian, I believe this is a bandaid fix for an aerodynamic problem. Because the lerxes pretty much make the plane non-stealth.

the radar cross section from behind might have been compromised by the vector thrust system I don´t know about the thermal track on the T50 (I know they design F22´s nozzles to minimize thermal track) but it must still be pretty agile in close combat and hard to get in a radar. Remember Russians dominated super-maneuverability long before the US and they are the best in the world in Aerodynamics (I have studied a lot of Aerodynamics in my career) so I think the T50 must have good characteristics

@Nefariusi Oh, of course don't get me wrong. The T50 I'm sure will have fantastic characteristics. I was just pointing out some things i had noticed. But, yes Sukhoi and Russia would not be investing in T50 if they felt it would not be a winner. Plus allot of knowledge was gained from su37 and su47 airframes that have been incorporated into the T-50. I do like the weapons bay in between the engines, allot of pluses there. The only draw back would be that it would hurt IR signature. (cont)

@Nefariusi I read allot from different sources, most information on internet is biased one way or other. It is best to read Defense Publications, both Russian and American. I read that a flat stealth 2D Nozzle will be tested for pak fa. Do not be caught in the misconception that 3D nozzle is better. It is not. 3D Nozzle has less throw than 2D Nozzle and of course is not stealth. I am interested in Plasma Stealth. I am not able to find much information, but I know tests have been done.

All of this is true, but that is the way you design Air Forces, small countries who can´t support such a mega-air force must rely more on the capabilities of the individual aircraft (and of course pilots skills) to increase pilots surviving chances and mission success, if we isolate the factors to only the fighters in question it´s the dogfight that defines the better aircraft (and pilot which makes it even harder to finally tell about the aircraft) in air-forces none can match the US

Watch the blinding light as it explodes, feel the heat of the fireball of which you are a part, watch for brief second as your body flies apart and splatters everywhere. @eag11e the mighty of the F22... ok, first I´m not questioning the aircraft or your postulate about it being better than a SU 27 or an experimental Berkut, to do that you need to make an extensive study to get the N-V charts and at least the iso-Energy-Altitude vs V to get an idea of which one is really better (that I´m sure you not only didn´t make them but also you wouldn´t know how to). I´m just saying... where is the dogfight???

To be specific, I worked on the "ring laser gyro" imu. Not that you would have any idea what that even is or what it does. And, I have clearly stated that the F-22 is at least ten years ahead of anything that sukhoi has ever produced. As far as a Dogfight goes. You don't have the balls for it. So you will never see one!

@eag11e interesting, wouldn´t that be part of the gyroscopic system of the aircraft that instead of being mechanic is laser? that only makes you a simple (so far) electronic technician which means I was right, you only fastened the screws of the F22´s gyro, nice life and great accomplishments that of yours. And that also means you can´t perform the flight envelope curve and Energy--Altitude curve of the aircraft, so ask your friends with a real career as Aeronautic Engineers to do it for you

@eag11e I don´t look for stuff in the wiki, it just sucks when it comes to real knowledge, I learned about aircraft electronic systems in the specific subject it is in the aeronautical engineering career. And yes I want meaningful response from you but you reacted bad to my question. I really wonder about the outcome of a dogfight between an F22 and a Su27 (not say a Berkut or T50). Missiles efficiency will be worse due to stealth technology forcing the dogfight.
