  • Delightful - inspired talker too! Great!

  • I've NEVER experienced so many interruptions with anything I've watched or listened to on youtube as with the silk road project related posts. "Bias", I can't help thinking, as always, towards anything that is Iranian.

  • wow! he speaks like a man who live in toronto or new york for 20 years! way to go man. excellent musician. i like combination of Kalhor and Shajarian. they are awesome.

  • I like it more than the violin, and at times it seems to have a vague bagpipe sound.

  • i wish he would wear somthing better not pijama

  • @D484K225 Iran (great nation indeed) survived muslim influence? yeah right! that's why everyone is still zoroastrian there...

  • Wow! Thanks so much for posting this! I could listen to Kalhor forever!!

  • I had the pleasure of see (Maestro Kalhor) play together with Maestro Alizadeh and Maestro Khaladj and were utterly amazed by his talent. His style is unique and very refreshing.

  • Saw them in Chicago, yesterday. These guys are ridiculous. Kalhor and Alizadeh played 55 minutes nonstop improv. Hauntingly amazing.

  • I just saw him at the Disney Hall too. My second Kalhor concert and it was so amazing.

  • I just saw him at the Masters of Persian music concert at Disney hall. He was amazing.

  • Thank you D484K225 for your historical answer! I would also like to thank ahleeshq for sharing the musical info of Mr. Asgha Bahari! I just had a TINY TINY BIT experience of the Kamancheh through the Silkroad Project. I am well aware that there is A LOT MORE about the instrument and the artistry to learn about!!! Once again, thank you.

  • ok, you enjoy him, but it's interesting to know that no traditional musician in Iran considers him as a master of kamancha or an inspired artist. He was just very lucky to live in USA and to find strong suporters who were not much concerned by genuine tradition. Even his kamanche technique is wrong : listen to Asgar Bahari or other masters on Utube. If you don't understand the difference, then enjoy Kalhor, Andre Rieux, Clayderman etc. No problem. Peace

  • well Lotfi doesnt like him. But lotfi is too traditionalist. If you think he is not inspired, listen to "night, silence, desert" again

  • Master Kalhor is THE best kamancheh player...

  • In reference to my previous question, I would like to make clearer that I know Persian music had been existing even before the advent of (orthodox) Muslim. However, I have learned from the musician that the instrument was developed even in later decades (after the advent of Muslim). Once again, many a thanks in advance to any enlightening answer!!!

  • My Friend, what you need to first understand is that, the Persian are the only nation that survived the Muslim/Arab invasion. Persians are warriors, until this very day they are fighting day and night to keep their culture from being destroyed by the Muslim/Arab influence. Hence, their music and their musical instruments are some one the remaings of that ancient culture. Way more ancient than Greeks and Romans...

  • Amazing musician!!! Once again thanks to Silkroad Project I have learned a lot about the wonderful Persian musical world. And once again I would like to ask: I have learned that orthodox Muslim forbids/curses music. How could they develop such a wonderful musical world? Forgive my ignorance if I were wrong. Many a thanks in advance to any enlightening answer!!!

  • He really is among the greatest kurdish musician ever !

Truly a master of the Kamancheh !

  • what a good English you have. I'm impressed!

  • @Spadana83 He has been living in the US for many years

  • E5DIPLOMAT, very well said. I saw Kalhor in Seattle when he was in Ghazal, and it was truly magical. I think their album, "The Rain" is their best.

If one is willing to put aside political differences, all cultures have much to be proud of. It is only politics that drives us apart; art and music bring us back together.

  • Zebde Bad Keyhan Kalhor. He picks apart the very strings of soul, before weaving them back into a tapestry of harmony. I'm proud to be an Iranian because we have people like Keyhan Kalhor.

  • I just saw the Silk Road Ensemble on PBS and am still in a stunned state. They are absolutely amazing. I wish I could see them live. Kayhan is a pure miracle. Thank you!

  • the best presentation

    thanks

  • Thanks a lot. I've seen master Kalhor play live in Vancouver. The videos don't do justice, his Kamancheh is magical.

  • the instrument has such a haunting sound.

  • Hi,

I play Kamancheh, not happy with the strings that are on my instrument, would you be able to tell me what type of sring (what brand) is the best for Kamancheh? thanks.

  • hi

i think if u use pirastro violin string it would help u have a better sond.

  • as you know , BETTER proportional

  • r u living in Iran ? it would be good for u to look around DARVAZEH DOWLAT 's shops in tehran asking for AHAN-ABRISHAM strings which made by hand there , sound of them is perfect .
