Actually, if you make a REASONABLE defense-the conviction rates in traffic court is less than 50%. Plead not guilty and ask for a continuance-that costs the city/county money. Expect to get a call from the DA's office for a deal to settle.

Yesterday I went through a red light intersection. The light turned yellow as I approached. So I was all "oh shit". No one was close behind me, so I slammed on my brakes.  Car did not stop before the intersection despite this. So I had to go through. Probably will get a ticket too despite all my efforts to stop. And traffic court is an illegal, unconstitutional kangaroo court so no defense ever works. Oh but I did cover my face from the cameras once I realized my car didn't stop.

They have installed a bunch around my city, and since our civil engineers don't know which way is up..the cameras take pictures of traffic going through the intersection on a Green light...it's funny because it's the camera that was supposed to take a pic of you running a red instead it's late and takes pictures of the side of your car.....CLASSIC...our courts throw out any tickets sent if you contest.

I have no objection to the cameras. I have been caught once in DC and once in Barcelona. I would object to the overhead crowding out the civil authorities cut.

If the cam companies make the bulk of it then they are no better than cops in a speed trap, or where the speed limit is set absurdly low so police can harvest even the safety conscious. Cops fund their own existence off largely safety conscious drivers.

I don't know about where you are but in colorado i know that if you get one of these tickets in the mail you can completely ignore it and not pay, it has something to do with the way traffic laws are set up that tickets have to be presented in person by a law enfforcment officer, so if you don't pay a traffic camera ticket they can't do anything to punish you

They are abused no doubt and the lack of leeway can be annoying but really the percentage of people being screwed is probably far lower then people who are just a bunch of dicks flooring it through yellows and running reds. I personally have no problem with this. Whenever someone gets dinged with one of these tickets they just complain even though they likely DID run the run the red/yellow. Just because some people got screwed doesn't mean EVERYONE getting a ticket was in the right.

You can just throw them away. They can't legally do anything unless you are personally served the ticket. They would have to prove that the ticket did not get lost in the mail and that's impossible.

You realize you can fight those right? there are suppose to be two photos on the ticket front view and back view (to prove you did go through after the red) Oh and a yellow light means "prepare to stop" not "Floor it". That is another reason you may get a ticket. They trigger on a preset time after it turns red and above a certain speed. But yeah, they are a money maker and there is plenty of corruption(commission based companies) and legal issues involved

As long as you engage the intersection before the light turns red, there should be no ticket (at least that what the state defensive driving program says).

@devilboy742001 In theory; the entirety of your vehicle has to be beyond the white stripe when the light turns red, inversely if any part of your car is beyond the starting point of the white stripe while you're stopped at the red light, you technicaly "ran" said light. At least in Colorado.

Um... the company that makes the cameras only makes money from the sale, installation, and maintenance of the cameras. Your local law enforcement are actually the ones giving you the ticket when they see you on the camera. Only the proper law enforcement can issue traffic tickets, if anyone else was doing it that would be illegal and you wouldn't have any obligation to pay them anything.

Red light Camera's everywhere they are unconstitutional like most things the government ignores the best thing to do if you get a ticket in the mail throw it away since you never signed and you can dispute it if they say something most people I know never paid it and nothing happened! People who pay this are really stupid; because they don't know their rights. If you ever get a follow up summons just say you never received it and challenge in court they will be automatically dismissed!

In my state it is perfectly legal to be in an intersection when the light is red as long as it wasn't red when you entered it. Well, not in every circumstance but there are legitimate reasons to be in an intersection when the light is red that do not involve running a red light.
