@iancameron402 ....and just what is a jazz person? Ask Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, Peter Erskine, Christian McBride, Robert Hurst, Ray Brown/Oscar Peterson (when they were here) if she is a Jazz person (if you know who these people are). The only person completely UNQUALIFIED to have an opinion on this topic is you.
@giguild....Tommy LiPuma has produced many great jazz artists. But really not sure what your point is. Are the other artists he's produced great because he produced them? The great Ray Brown heard her play as a teenager in Nanaimo and took her under his wing. I would imagine it would take a great deal of talent to impress him. Even Oscar Petersen thought she was good. No doubt Tommy L helped, but you have to have the goods to play with the best players in the world.

Just because Google says she's a Jazz person doesn't mean shit! The artists backing Diana are Jazz musicians. Producer Tommy LiPuma crafted her raw talent into something marketable. Without Tommy, Diana would still be doing hotel lounges... Credit to Tommy for molding the greats, Google his name then you will understand why Diana is popular... IMHO she's good, but not good enough, she sings good covers, but she doesn't have the knack to write herself., well nothing worth remembering
Love this version the feeling she puts into her singing and playing, the drums are just perfect, AH HELL they're all simply outstanding ....at the top of their game here.
Hutzjohn , you`ll be telling me next that lady gaga is great because she sells shed loads of records. krall isn`t even a jazz singer, she`s just easy listening M.O.R. mush ! Listen to some proper singers;Della Reese, Ella,Sarah Vaughan ,Billie Holiday,Etta james etc.YOU DIM MUPPET!! Peter Erskine is brilliant though.
@57dogsbody Sorry but you are the DIM MUPPET if you don't know Diana Krall is a Jazz person. All you have to do is type her name in to Google. I do like all of the singers you mentioned and Erskine is good. And as for lady Gaga look up (Rockefeller plan to dumb down population) on Google also, that will explain why she's big today and maybe even your comment. But Krall is big because she has real talent.
peter erskine is a stone genius, what the hell is he thinking of playing with this talentless bimbo? he just manages to drag this above elevator muzak!
@57dogsbody Your not too smart! HE was thinking Gee It would be nice to play with the biggest selling JAZZ musician of the last 10 -15 years-- Diana Krall. And to call her a talentless bimbo makes you an idiot. Please don't respond back I just don't care to talk with stupid people thank-you.
Whoever posted that Erskine doesn't swing : he is a legend and has played with some of musics biggest names - you haven't. Shut the F up. Erskine is a genius.
People who know, that being other musicians, think Diana Krall possesses the best jazz voice in the world AND that her piano playing is nothing short of stellar.
In this cut, she's really feelin' it as are the guys she's playing with. Look at the big ol' Cheshire Cat smiles on all of them about 3/4 of the way through.
With Diana Krall, you get a combination of apparent ease of delivery with massive technical prowess and that is a rare find indeed.
@puppyspud Ignorance is a characteristic that is best jgnored :-) No self-respecting drummer would cast verbal aspersions on Peter's drum playing (I mean finessing). Saying Peter doesn't swing is like saying, Steve Gadd has no groove :-)
Diana Krall, lightweight. What the heck are you on? You would do well to have spent a quarter of the time she has studying her genre. karrowarro02 you should do a little more research on Diana before you spout off and besides these guys wouldn't take her job if they didn't respect her either. They could certainly be doing other things.
The fact is this is blues. It's 12 bars, like jerriwitaj said. However the feel used in this can also be described as swing, as shuffle, hell if you think about it you can easily transform it into reggae. However if this is anything, it's just blues. Krall is very pretty but it's a shame that monster musicians like Erskine or the guitar player are wasted on a lightweight like her.
Dude i was commenting on the fact that you know nothing about either swing or 3/4 time. On that basis, you have no authority to tell nobody nothin about music. So before you embarrass yourself again, lets just get with the quiet time making.
Oh really? How the hell do you know what I know? I know what swing is. Just mind your own business idiot. I know what 3/4, 4/4, or other time sigs mean. Ok dude? Fuck you.
Ha ha that's funny! This is a 12 bar blues and it is also swing! Swing can be played in any time signature. Swing is a feel based on triplets. It has nothing to do with how many beats per bare there are.
You're totally right. My bad, I was for some stupid reason thinking of a waltz (I have NO idea why) which is of course, in 3/4 time. I should know that, just bein' stupid I guess. But it still isnt swing. Not in the strictest sense. 12 bar blues.
Holy god, Erskine's fill at 3:05. What an amazing group...

Outstanding! Also, Mark Colby from Chicago on tenor.
