I honestly thought I'd found Barbershop heaven when I stumbled across 4Voices. Without a shadow of a doubt Ringmasters are their equal. I LOVE this stuff. It's like a drug. Even if my world was crashing down around me, a song from these guys would cheer me up. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you!
Just got this arrangement and can't wait to start working on it with my group, Mr. Wright does wonderful work and hopefully we can sound remotely like the Ringmasters :P
are you serious ??? The add9 is waaay better and they ring it so well...I prefer add9 to the too much used dominant7Th (in my opinion...) and I prefer add9 without using the min7th...well their version rocks !!
It sounds cool, but it doesn't sound quite barbershopy enough to me. It sounds kinda like Whitacre or something. Lol we should post multitracks of it both ways, and let people vote!
hmmm The 7th dominant on the chord you wrote sounds wierd to me...if you want a 7th it should be more a Maj7 ^^but anyway you're right the add9 doesn't sounds barbershop at all BUT in that case it sounds great because it is not expected !
My vote is add9. Barbershop songs are very dominant 7th heavy( which is fine) but it's nice to change it up a bit. Adding a nine is hardly Whitacre-esque.
i feel like the last chord they could slide up to a different voicing or something. That would be really cool. Like Tim Warick in the song "I Wanna Be Like You"
It was a privilege and an honor to lose to you guys in Nashville! Lol. You really are amazing! 17th doesn't sound as bad when the winner sounds as awesome as you guys do. Keep rockin it!
definitely going to be champs in the near future, just awesome! how can I sheet music for this song cause I don't think they sell this version in the bhs catalogue. Can anyone help me out?
there's not overtones really (well, there are but that's not what you're hearing), it's just the chord. it's not barbershop one, you can hear the dissonance between the bari and the lead. it's some 9th or 11th chord or something.
I saw and sang with these guys at the LABBS convention last autumn. A really friendly quartet, as well as a really good one!! :)

man, when they hit that 9th chord, i'm hearing the bass note up an octave and i don't think it's being sung by any of the other guys. overtone much?

Need a better recording device for these guys.

2:13-2:17 is SICK! Love it!

The chord progression at 2:10 is
A/D/F#/C (D7)
A/E/B/C# (A add9)
G#/E#/B/C# (C#7)
Bass sings A-A-G#
Bari sings D-B-B
Lead sings F#-E-E#
Tenor sings C-C#-C#
enjoy !!!
Again : who arranged this one ??
jibcraip 3 years ago 2
David Wright, with a few tweaks.
mWahlgren 3 years ago
Man, that's neat. I would've tried to put the
bari as D-G-B
lead as F#-E-E#
so you can throw in a seventh.
or vice versa:
Bari D-E-B
Lead F#-G-E#
The add nine, as cool as it sounds, doesn't seem as cool as the old 7th. Maybe a (real) nine, with a dom7th would be cool, too.

yes, does anyone know which arrangement this is?
blynk23 3 years ago
their lead, Rasmus Krigström does alot of their own arranging... Highly educated musician.

hmm...no doubt...but this is almost the exact same arrangement that Four Voices sings except for a few different chords...
blynk23 2 years ago
This is a David Wright arrangement. But with a few tweaks ;)
