  • I never drank it before either but this just looks completely impractical and silly. I hope no one actually does this. Waste waste waste.

  • @MartyredxMaiden we, who drink absinth drink it simply in 2 steps.. 1. pour into glass, 2. drink it ;) im glad i have never seen any morons ruining it with flame or sugar

  • @Plevell That's how I always imagined it would be. I'm not legal yet, but as soon as I'm legal, I'm jumping on the absinthe bandwagon. It just fascinates me. Everything about it. The lore, the history, the paraphernalia. Any advice?

  • i bet it was hard to wash that sticky mess off the spoon

  • um no, just no.

  • The best way to drink the Absinthe is avoid the sugar cube and just slowly add icy water(drips)until absinthe is cloudy colour and drink it slow to enjoy the best taste in flavour.Cheers

  • U actually burn all of alcohol out...

  • @MrSunglasesatnight only out of the sugar! THe Absinthe itself should not burn!!! This Vid is crap!!!!

On my channel you can see how the preperation according to the bohemian ritual should be!! Libertine Absinthe ritual & louche effect

is the name of my vid!!! This Video here is such crap!!!

  • @MrSunglasesatnight If you dont do it right you do

  • The Bohemian ritual is for pretentious fools.

  • last night i took a shot of it through my eye, not funny.

  • i never drank absinthe before and even i know this looks wrong.

  • i hope you actually drank thagt

  • WOW!

  • at least the music is great... what is it? :)

  • for more information about absinthe please visit: absinthefilm. c o m

  • You poured too much too quickly onto the cube.

  • You poured too much too quickly onto the cube.

  • The sugar must be toasted not Melted into a heap of Nasty burn crap.

  • Nice*! ;-) LoL! Those Who Know-Know! ALANDIA makes a good video-thnx

  • Lol absolute bollocks! That's not how you prepare it, all you did was burn an absinth spoon and ruin a glass of absinth, either you did it thinking it was right = idiot or you did it as a joke = idiot. . .

  • good to see that many didnt get the "joke" behind it...

  • @claudryn

nowadays everybody seems to be dumbass morons for some reason..

  • @Achorafa

    the weakest links at work?

  • carmelize the sugar, you needn't blacken it! you'll ruin it!

  • How many spoons did you waste like this?^^

  • nice way to destroy your absinthe spoon.

  • mmmmmmmmmm absinthe flavoured caramel

  • This is NOT the Bohemian absinthe preparation....this is the MORON absinthe preparation.

  • @EnigmaOnThe5th

    word!

  • @EnigmaOnThe5th Can you not read the title?

  • It's indeed a totally exaggerated view on the czech method (it's a misnomer calling it 'bohemian', since 1. it cannot be called 'bohemian' as it's a modern invention 2. in case of absinthe culture, "bohemian" does NOT stand for "from bohemia").

The real drawback of the method is that it ruins the complexity of real absinthe (no wonder it was invented as a method for imitation absinthes), but I still lfound the video to be funny:)

  • you are suppose to caramelize the the sugar not burn it and the flame is way out of control here.. it should not be in the glass I find that if you: 1) prep the spoon and sugar without the Absinthe in the glass 2) use a few drops of Absinthe to soak the sugar 3) light the sugar and let it caramelize(normally with such a small amount of Absinthe you can let it burn out) 4) add the rest of the Absinthe to the glass(preferably to the side away from the spoon) 5) add water directly onto sugar done
  • Should that horrible thing be drunk?

  • im not drinkin that shit!!!!

  • I have not tried the Bohemian method , but I do believe that rather than allowing the sugar to burn, you're supposed to ignite it and after, a short moment of admiring the flames, drop it i the glass. The absinthe in the glass then may (though not always will) ignite ("burning the Green Fairy") and you then pour a shot of ice water into the glass, extinguishing the flame, cooling the drink, and producing the artful clouding. So in sum, no caramelization and heating of the absinthe is intended.

  • ew...

  • looks cool but these guys are really just a bunch of idiots. You don't want to completely carmelize the sugar or light the absinthe on fire. That's just stupid. Why would you want to burn all the alcohol off? The only good reason for using this method is because czech style "absinth" typically doesn't contain the anise, fennel, or other herbs that cause the absinthe to become louche when you add the cold water. The fire method gives it the illusion of having louche. That shits brown.idiots.

  • Hmm, this never happened to me. Well, I just light the sugar, not the whole absinth...

  • one of the first times i drank absinth i tried the burning sugar cube method but the glass exploded in my hand-- so fuck that playing with fire when drunk stuff !!!

  • Nine Inch Nails bitch!!

  • 1.- You're supposed to light the sugar lump only, if the absinthe lights on fire, you need to blow it off (to avoid tainting the absinthe and the glass to heat up)

2.- The sugar lump is not supposed to burn, when it begins to caramelize, you put immediately the water.

    So, FAIL!!! Mayor pwnage

  • @PXNDXN

this video was supposed to exaggerate the effects of the bohemian ritual, and that's the reason why te title reads 'and why you should avoid it'. Everything you see in the video is supoposed to be the way it is. These guys are absinthe specialists. so your comment fails, and Alandia major pwns you and your 24 thumbs up

  • @Achorafa You're completely wrong! Watch other videos of different barmen and specially, watch the Absitheology channel videos, they explain this, and being logic... how retarded is this?!?! Fire in a glass = heat, ice cold water + heat = broken glass and Epic Fail... lightly melted sugar cube = sweet absinthe FTW!!

  • @PXNDXN

omg dont you get it? the guys from Alandia know exactly how to do it. The only reason they made this video is to show what could happen if you do the bohemian ritual for too long. It is not that hard to understand, is it? dammit

  • @Achorafa Well, it didn't work out, right?? With 23 thumbs up, it seems that the only reason they made this video is to show us that they are dorks...

  • a great vid as i in my ignorance ruined many a wonderful glass of absinthe with this method i much prefer the method which allows the water to slowly drip onto the sugar much much better otherwise the taste goes to crap

  • Nice louche! Never seen a black louche before.

What a perfect way to ruin a good glass of absinthe.

  • Im sorry to report, but you do not caramelize sugar by burning it! It simply burns... To caramelize sugar you must use heat, with no direct flame. So any person who performs this method and excuses it by saying it "caramelizes" the sugar is a moron.

  • Well certainly disaster will occur if you let the sugar cook for such a ridiculously long time. It's only supposed to cook until it just starts to carmelize.

  • omg u burned it too long

  • when i drank it we only burned the sugar till it sarted to caramelize... without turning it into a black blob of charcoal!

  • For curiosity's sake, I tried this method; I'm no pyromaniac, mind you, but I am an empirical person.

Never do this, the end result is disgusting, you end up with lukewarm, non-refreshing swill that has a strong spent Sterno after taste. The caramelized taste of the sugar overrides the subtleties of the anise and other herbal compounds.

I love Absinthe, it's delicious, refreshing, and ultimately tea-like, but after it's been torched, it goes down like cheap bourbon,.

  • Also, the fie burns holes in the finish of the Absinthe spoons, which makes them less nice-looking.

  • Why would it matter what was in the glass? If you do that with any kind of alcohol it would be stupid.

Alcohol is a converted sugar molecule. When mixed with regular (processed or fruit) sugar, that is what causes hangover headache. The method for melting the sugar was particularly idiotic.

  • Black louche?

    gross.

  • Didn't even notice the glass cracking on top of everything until just now!;) Brilliance, perfect example of why this is not a good idea!

  • *sigh* You didn't consider that your hot glass would break if you poured cool water onto it?

  • Great!

  • Excellent. No words are really needed for why it should be avoided, I think the video "speaks" for itself.

  • @TheAbsintheReviewNet You're not supposed to burn it for that long. You should douse it with ice water after it starts to caramelize

  • @darkfire7995 Even if you did that, the heavy presence of smoke in the aroma makes it taste awful. I've tried it, it's bad.

  • gr8 vid, but why should it be avoided??

I made a vid on it from my GS3 channel!!
