  • gaming's citizen cane

  • That's a LOT of build up. O.O

  • @Wiseman108 They make the music tracks seperately, so that they can be seemlessly integrated between cutscenes and combat. Drums kick in when you need to dodge a giant hadouken, drums and strings cut out when people talk, etc.

    It really is extremely neat.

  • The combat was kinda boring, and the graphics were a touch bellow terrible. However what Cavia did right was some phenomenal music and amazing character development (even though they just filled the jrpg niche.)

  • @Conciet253

    Honestly, I'd prefer NieR 2 to FF13-2.

  • @Conciet253 You forgot to include the amazing plot.

  • @Conciet253 I don't know why everyone calls the graphics "terrible." Is it because it had Square Enix on the box? It's pretty average - as in, not bad - compared to a lot of PS3/360 games, and it's really not so bad you'd ever notice it and exclaim how awful it is (except maybe the Shades but that's design choice, not graphics). I honestly have never been turned away by bad graphics since the PS1 era ended.

  • this is a song to the most epic boss fight ever

  • @Lonewulf321 Why, NIER of course.

  • A father who would do anything to protect his dying daughter, even at the cost of his life and even the fate of the world itself.....

Now which character in Nier am I referring too?

  • @Lonewulf321 you can name him whutever you want

  • @Lonewulf321 Jackie Chan?

  • @Lonewulf321 You're referring to two characters indeed... :)

  • @endhalf Thats because mass effect is too straight forward with their characters to the point, that when people die you kinda dont care too much because it was like who the heck were they and why should I care? but nier emphasised characters and built a relationship with them so when things happened the impact was much more emotional, glad that someone else notices these kind of things though lol (remember kids story is important but the characters are the people who make the story happen) :)

  • Absolutely loved the game! I don't know why, but for some reason it had bigger emotional effect on me than for example Mass Effect, or others RPGs... God I love Nier...

  • farewell Cavia. May a flight of space babies sing you to thine resting place.

  • Ear rape starting at 0:00

    Eargasm starting at 2:16

  • @xXOnlineProdigyXx Ear rape?

  • @xXOnlineProdigyXx Wrong.

  • This is from Wiki: Square Enix executive producer Yosuke Saito has since commented that "a number of things" related to Nier are in progress, and that an announcement could be due in 2011.

So yes people, a sequel (or at least an announcement) will be due out by this year or next year.... FUCK YES!

  • this game needs a sequel

  • I usually don't play through games to get multiple endings, hopefully i don't lose interest cause i want to see the other endings.

  • @Etrian2 You don't have to start over to get the multiple endings. You get dropped in at the halfway mark, and the revelations during gameplay leading up to the other endings are what make it worth it.

  • The game is fantastic and has multiple endings, fantastic if you love to collect all of the items as they carry over from the last game. The soundtrack is so fantastic it brings me to tears. I feel blessed to have played this game.

  • @Sephirothreincarnate I see you like using the word "fantastic".

  • @Charliem1994 It is a dexterous word, no? I think that in itself, is pretty fucking fantastic.

  • why...why is this game so amazing? Easy!! Nier is underrated! And this song... man ff and all the rest of rpg's can go away. No game has this amazing soundtrack. Maybe just maybe FF versus 13 might best it.

  • One of my favourite video game theme, and my favourite boss theme, FUCKING EPIC

  • BEST.FINAL.BOSS.THEME.EVER!!

ESPECIALLY NEAR THE END WHEN THE SONG PLAYS LIKE A MUSIC BOX. I ALMOST BURSTED TO TEARS!

GOD BLESS YOU, CAVIA. REST IN PEACE.

  • gonna get this game when after my birthday and christmas (together with el sahddai, and folklore^^). well the first time i saw a game review i had to laugh a bit because of the graphic and the castlevania 2D- style... but after seeing the intro and some other gameplays i just want this game *o* and the osts are really epic!

  • @Whitewyvernkiller I just bought the game last night because I remember being interested in it when I saw the previews. I am digging it so far, I like the music, the characters and just the way everything looks so far.

    Definitely pretty fun so far.

  • @Sanious I'm guessing you're a bit farther by now. Don't forget to do a new game + and actually play through it. Don't just youtube ending b, the experience is in the second playthrough. It will completely change your perception of the game's story.

  • @Kiro0 Yeah, I haven't. I just started my New Game+ today and I have to say I already know what you're talking about. I love that they went about telling you more of the story this way.

    I really love this game.

  • @Kiro0 wait, if I play it a second time, the only difference is the ending, isn't it?? Or is the deal SWEETER than that?

  • @FieryRedDonkeyOfHell the story changes in a good way making the game soooo much better i wont tell you more cuz it would spoil it but you gotta play it more than 1 or2 or 3 times hahaha trust me it´s worth it...just one tip...you might cry so get a loooot of tissues :3

  • Best OST ever to one of the best games ever.

  • This and Gods bound by rules are totally awesome pieces of music.

  • one of the best songs i ever heard... i actually listen to metal but this masterpiece leaves me dewy-eyed... an amazing game deserves an amazing soundtrack and they did everything right... i'll appreciate this soundtrack forever, thanks to the great composers

  • This soundtrack helped me discover an amazing game.

  • How awesome can this get?

  • @galvenize2 its also being shown live on their ustream

  • WONDERFUL, NITISH !!! :)

  • @galvenize2 it breaks my heart they r in japan and i live in england ive just found this music and it is the most beautiful i have ever heard i would love to go....

  • Never heard of Nier until someone I watch on devART made fanart of it. Is this supposed to be a boss theme? Not many songs give me a music high, but this one does :D

  • @TheChronicler90 It is supposed to be THE boss theme of NIER ;)

(btw my personal favorite right behind "Gods Bound By Rules")

  • I never play at Nier but this music is really perfect the first part is just beautifull and sad, the second part is really dynamique and awesome for a battle, this music have all I love when I listen a music.

  • J'adore cette Musique *_*

  • @galvenize2 :( I hope it gets an album or DVD release because the music in Nier is just wonderful.

  • I don't know what she is singing about but I like it.

  • ... whoever's comparing this to ff6, stop. They have literally nothing in common.

  • This song is freaking magical! You can get the complete OST in iTunes for $15.99!

  • what a wonderful song, fabulous *-*

  • This song makes me think about... Harmageddon!

  • pls, dont argue about FF at this vid. enjoy the wonderfull song, nyuu^^

  • Oh my god, spare me your pathetic mocking and grow up. It was clearly not intended to argue and believe it or not, writing with a PS III is difficult on youtube. And yet logical thinking would have helped to understand that I wanted to avoid an arguement.

And yes, your description shows that you follow the stream and don't understand the story. It is by far more than just an "FF VI-2".

  • And oh my god, JameNeko - not another "overrrated" comment. Final Fantasy VII harvests so much hatred, you just prove yourself wrong. That is because of the Anti-Hype-Hype nowadays.

  • @Cetra29 I don't even, what did you just say? If you're trying to argue for something, perhaps you should learn how to properly phrase yourself first? Lol.

FF7 is pretty much a 3D FF6 (with a far worse story, that revolves around a momma's boy..) as far as I'm concerned ~

Also, at your previous comment, what is there not to understand about the story? Subliminal messages that only you seem to catch?~

  • @JAMiEneko You understood his entire point really; your wild generalizations of Final Fantasy VII are mildy retarded at best sir. The only thing that would even remotely become anything subliminal about VII's story is the emotions involvled in the music. As far as I am concerned....your "momma's boy" comment groups you with the ignorant, stereotypical incompetents who think VII is overated because they fail to grasp the evident art of it's themes.

  • @UltimaStrife19 Umm.. O K UltimaStrife19.

The story is far from difficult to grasp, especially the "art of it's themes".

To believe it is more then what meets the eye one must be incredibly dense.

Also, it holds an incredibly weak ending. Fitting, maybe, but it lacked the emotion to turn the game into something greater (some might say a "masterpiece"). Hastily explains what happens to the planet and hardly tells you what happens to the characters on a personal level.

  • Lol, "how moronic it was". That can only be from another one who didn't understand the story and believes internet theories. I love Final Fantasy VII's story more thsn Nier's, but Nier comes directly after it.

  • @Lynxyss How is this anything like Lilium?

  • Hmm this songs rather nice...not really much going on..hmm 2:50 in I guess it's not gonna get any better tha----WHOOOOOOOOA

  • As much as the game itself is flawed, the character development, story, and music are exceptional. Grimoire Weiss alone is one of my all-time favorite characters.

  • @appledozeLeonTaz I agreed, the fight between Kaine et Weiss always make me smile. The story ( and the newgame+ ) make me want to cry.. The music? No need to talk about it. Just awesome.

  • I don't know why, since I'm pretty sure the language in this game's soundtrack is mostly conlang, but this sounds vaguely French to me.

  • @Rimethurse the language in this game is made up, its a mix of frence galic and japanese.

  • so epic at 2:50 when yonah leaves the body and the shadowlord yells and turns slowly toward you with this face of just pure and complete hatred (i get shivers). i love when games can convey true emotions from a character

  • *Tear*

  • Ultimate COME AT ME BRO theme

  • so is the game rly as epic as the ost? i yearn for an epic story, like the final fantasy ones =/

  • @huhndaking777 Nier blows any FF game's plot out of the water. The characterization and general writing is less like a J-RPG (see: blatant archetypes in a simple good vs evil setting) and more like a really, really good book. And yes, it is constantly epic.

  • @Shinkada k i will buy it :D

  • @Shinkada Wouldn't say ANY, 6 and 9 both have extremely strong plots.

The rest.. Yeah, most likely. *cough*ff10*cough*

  • @JAMiEneko Square titles are always black and white. They never go in-depth into any of the issues they present, assuming they present issues at all. They never present actual challenging topics like Nier does. The characterization spends five minutes when the character is first introduced setting up their archetype, the next 60+ hours using their dialogue for nothing but exposition, and then they get a 5-minute end or post-game event that reaffirms their archetype. tl;dr: they're awful.

  • @Shinkada Obvious hater is obvious. I still find 6 and 9 to have some of the best plot I've ever seen, rivaling that of Nier.

What you described is more along the lines of the incredibly overhyped FF7.

  • @JAMiEneko What were your first FF games?

Any money 6 and 9 were among the first. Nostalgia mixed with the fact that all Square games are extremely similar in plot and characterization. 9 especially had a nearly nonexistant plot up until the last hour, and among the worst characterization in the series, with a few characters who didn't even have their usual 10 minutes of archetype setup.

I'm not telling you to hate it, personally I love FF6, but I can still admit it's got bad writing.

  • @Shinkada how did 9 not have a plot until the last hour? You always knew what you were doing, and why you were doing it, it's just that a lot of stuff gave you always new main goals, but that doesn't mean it didn't have a plot.

  • @danw91 So, "You knew what you were doing and why you were doing it" makes for a good plot? Square sure has lowered peoples' standards over the years. Admittedly I haven't played 9 in years so I can barely remember it, but that kind of illustrates my point. It's been longer since I played 7 but I still (unfortunately) remember a fair chunk of that, even if it's probably because of how moronic it was. 9 was just... Unmemorable except for the clone bs, which again, I remember because it was dumb.

  • @Shinkada your comment would mean something if Nier wasn't made by Square-Enix

  • @Bake749 Sigh... The game was developed by a now-bankrupt company named Cavia. Square just published it, and printed their disgusting name all over it.

  • @Shinkada o, my bad then xD

  • @Bake749 No problem. Square's fault, not yours. >:|

  • so beautiful! ^o^ music play list for this one!

  • Eargasm.

  • I don't own this game. Yet, I'm already in love with it.

  • @Luxferre7 thats good

  • Is it bad that, during the final-final fight with the Shadowlord (where you have to him him three times), when the music changed to this song in music-box for the final hit I actually cried?

I'm a freaking 25 year old man who has never cried in a game ever. This game is so, SO good.

  • @TheUselessGod Did you do it on newgame+? with the dialogue of the shadows, it's even more touching...

  • @TheUselessGod and underrated, but atleast it got released (thanks sony), check out NoA's decision on not releasing Xenoblade, last story and pandora's tower

as for Nier: i loved the story, and its emotional value at the end, and the soundtrack, simply dazzling

  • This is definately a game worth playing! Great story and awesome soundtrack!! The only thing I found a little boring was the fact that most of the sidequests are just collecting materials/ grinding. But that is just a minor flaw in this otherwise great game.

  • This game is a beautiful masterpiece in both soundtrack and story. I really have no qualms with the game.

  • xHanataroYamadax ok you got a point

  • i still expected the shadowlord to be more of a challenge

  • @SoulReaper461 I dare you to say that on New Game + On the hardest setting. Go on, i dare you. That crap is HARD, specially if your aiming for No item use.

  • I KICK SHADOWLORD ASS!!!!

  • 2 and a half minutes of buildup and its so completely worth it

  • @galvenize2 What? Why won't the developper indicate so? gosh i miss sth good

  • One of the saddest games out there.

  • wtf th

  • can someone please send me a link to see the sheet music for song??? please i'd like to learn how to actually sing this song rather than just try and figure out what they're trying to say

  • @SHINIGAMISAMA1000 It's in a made-up language.

  • I finished listening to the entire OST in a playlist, I'm a little sad that it's over but I will say that it was very repetitive. I'm happy that this soundtrack exists but it could've benefited a ton from more variation.

  • 175 peoples think this game is made of : EPIC WIN SAUCE OF DOOMZ THAT WIN ANY OTHER RPG ONLY WITH IT OST

  • @Dahosfan Hey, when you've got over 180 likes and 0 dislikes so far, the numbers don't lie.

It really is all that, and more.

  • @GUNDAMURX73 Alerdy 195 like, 0 dislikes, 46241 views... Number never lie indeed.

  • @galvenize2 well i played drakengard one and two but sadly i never completely finished both of them. Still I must say I didnt expect that at all.

  • As Kainé would say "That tune is fucking good"

  • That's truly beautiful ...

  • I like the part from 0:00 till about 5:26. After that, it's really not all that great.

  • @SycrosD4 I agree. That's why I hit replay immediately after it ends. =D

  • Call me weird but this game reminds me of Drakengard wich by the way happens to be a square Enix's project too

  • @BigDrawMan

    Same developer and publisher.

  • @BigDrawMan

That's because Nier is a sequel to Drakenguard.

  • @verterdegete it is the sequel to one of the endings to drakenguard

  • @BigDrawMan You remember the second time you go to the forest of myth? It has references to Drakengard in the story you read from the tree, when it talks about the woman and the dragon falling from the sky.

  • @BigDrawMan This story is long years after the events of Drakengard if you finished it completely the last ending when you go to Tokyo and they kill the dragon it releases a virus in the world then comes this.

  • @BigDrawMan actually, this is a direct sequel to Drakengard 1 from its Ending E, where Angelus and Caim appeared in tokyo and were shot down, in which resulting the white chlorination plague, and thus the story of nier hath begun

  • @BigDrawMan This game is a direct sequel to Drakengard's fifth ending. Close!

  • Underrated game.

  • Resident Evil 5 Mercenaries ^^

  • The best piece of music in a game since Ace Combat's Megalith.

  • The epic kicks in right at 2:55 O_o

  • NieR was a realy good game. Would it has a little bit better graphic and more secret thinks it would get 95/100

  • Possibly the best storyline I have ever seen in a videogame, possibly the best graphics I've seen in a videogame, DEFINITELY the best soundtrack I've ever heard.

  • @Sinagrom I will disagree with the graphics part but but! this was supposed to be a low budget project so the grafics are more than great considering that fact alone! I just hated fishing and farming :P aaand a tiny bit of bug where if you had a main quest there was no way to track the sidequests and it would ONLY track down the main quest

  • oh my god:D i belive in heaven!:D

  • Possibly one of the most amazing tracks I have ever heard from a video game.

  • This may be my favorite track from the game, coming in 2nd is the music box version.

  • My first playthrough clocked in at almost 50 hours because I didn't want the story to come to an end. But then the Shadowlord's Castle was kinda easy...

  • Absolutely loved this game... I was gutted when it ended, and its a shame we wont be seeing anything like this again...

  • Mother of god

  • The first thing that struck me about the game was the soundtrack. The next thing I did was youtube it. Thank you for putting it up

  • very gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!

  • Its a shame many people don't know the prequels to this game. they are much the same in many ways. it only hints to it very little in the game, i hear.

music took a step up in both the original sequel and now in this cast off X3

    i like this song.

  • @UnmercyfulDeath There were prequels? Oh, do tell. I only knew about Nier.

  • @FlameHasChannel well, sorta. their not full prequels, but Neir extends from one of them supposedly. not much traveled from them to this game though.

Drakengard for the ps2 is the one where this game extends from, the fifth ending. the first ending of Drakengard goes into Drakengard 2, the other three are dead ends. well, maybe, the fifth was too before Neir came out.

their gameplay is tedious, but i like the stories. worth a try at least.

  • Never played the game but here I am sitting through this whole soundtrack. It's hard to imagine as many epic moments in a game as there are epic tracks.

  • Don't like the game, but this soundtrack...

    ...HOLY...

  • @SycrosD4 Really? I loved the game to bits!

  • @Charliem1994

It grew on me after a while. Now I love it.

  • @SycrosD4 Oh, good :)

  • Magnifique OST !

  • Nier has the best soundtrack out of any RPG out there :D

  • This theme is like a big win-cake, filled with win and served on a win-plate.

  • manly tears

  • i.......i think i just jizzed.

  • @dirtyred7450 in your socks? finish the sentence man!

  • Beat Ending A yesterday. The ShadowLord's castle is amazingly fun and the music is mind-blowing. Working on the DLC and Ending B now. Also, although not many people seem to like the "Forest of Myth" area I find it to be very fun and entertaining. Like I can immerse myself into the story, this truly is an underrated game.

  • @sumowow

Can it be put in any better words?

The game is a lot of fun and i LOVE the forest of myth. I like the stories and the music is simply amazing. Of all the games I've ever played this 1 has me the most caught up in the story of them all and has the best music. NieR is THE best to me.

  • @sumowow forest of myth is a good place but in the second dream if you make a mistake it's game over and you have to spam circle/B button to go through all the text

  • @Aquaferis Yeah, its one of the more annoying things in the game.

  • Best OST ever

  • Nier spoke of a story that will let you get in touch with. Spoke of a story that talked about Love, Surviving, Determination and why people do things. Even the evil ones have their profound reason of doing what they do. Taught us to hear the other side first before attacking. The OST helps to achieve the epicness of this storyline.

I wish other companies would see this game for what it really is about and try to make a game at least half as good.

  • @Syuusuke5 True. I went through game A striking down Shades without a second thought, but mid-way through game B I felt I was the villain.

  • @FlameHasChannel Felt the same way :/ I kept thinking for several days after I finished B and how amazing the game let me open my mind into looking more into stories to hear the two parts(if they were 100% true that is :P)

  • What's sad is that Nier is a better FFXIII than FFXIII.......................Nier is worlds above every single RPG on PS3. Screw you if you disagree.

  • @trancedsailor I know it's just so beautiful. Shame many other people can't see that.

  • Most underrated game ever.

  • 2:50 for Yonah!

  • So depressing lol.

  • Nier to Shadow Nier: "...I'll kll you!"

  • Never played this game, but this soundtrack is just breath taking and makes you wonder about things..

  • @gunnarkaka game - 2.5/5.0 but music is wonderful

  • This sia awesome and epic song. Nier is way better than many games out now.

  • Great song. Nier is way better than many games out now.
