  • Jesus John! Yes, yes, yes! We know the U.S. topped Russia and it was a great moment for us...but to remind us 3x's and in only the first rotation...seriously STFU!!!!!!

  • 6:02 looks like rebecca bross

  • Nobody clapped for Roza's beam. God bless the USA.

  • Roza was surely a little doll in Barcelona. I'm so glad she had the chance to be in the AA here.

  • I think most of the fuffs are at the nationals.

  • Do they even do fluffs anymore?

  • Roza and Shannon are good examples of how at 15 you can still hold off puberty, but at 19 you can't. (Although Korkhina tried till she was a lot older than 19 and did a fairly good job of it.)

  • Daws is so bow-legged

  • I think she's more bow-legged here than in the Team Final.

  • I love how they give so much attention to Roza, and just kind of pass by the fact that the exact same thing happened to Marinescu. I know it was legal when it happened to Marinescu, but it's just ridiculous they are saying "oh, it's fine it was ok to replace Marinescu with Amanar, but what happened to Roza was just AWFUL!"

  • Alex and Belu had serious issues.

  • I totally agree.

  • Who was the third USSR competator in '92? Boginskaya, Gutsu - why couldn't Rosa stay in?

  • Tatiana Lysenko!

  • Sad how they screwed Roza over in '92, Shannon Miller would have been champion!

  • Wasn't Milosevic still Olympic champion on vault,

"which is not her strongest piece"

  • 4 years is a long time in gymnastics. An eternity really. Scherbo was Olympic Champion on rings in 1992, it didnt mean it wasnt by far his weakest event in 1996.

  • It was just a typically ridiculous comment by the commentators.

  • I think they were right. I think vault was her weakest event by 1996. Her Phelps was her only 10 vault and it was ugly with a horrible pike in the air. Her bars and beam were solid, and her floor was her best event in 1996. Milo was past her prime by 96 in general anyway and in an AA competition with everyone hitting would have been about 10th or 11th. She really shouldnt have been close to any individual medals in Atlanta. Vault more then any other event though she had been passed by on.

  • Milo was helped to win a medal by Miller, Dawes, Hulien and Khorkina all messing up, all were serious contenders above the Romanians.

  • Amanar made a big mistake on floor, doing a full turn instead of the required double turn Simona was just as much a contender as those, and much more then Gina or Milo. Khorkina was going to come in probably behind Gina and Milo even had she not fallen on bars. Her vault and tumbling on floor sucked in Atlanta and scored low even hit. With everyone hitting the results would been:

    1-2. Lilia vs Mo

3-5. Simona vs the two Dominiques

6-8. Dina vs Shannon vs Roza

    9. Gina

    10. Lavinia

    11. Khorkina

  • If miller had hit her floor like she did at the 1996 nationals i genuinely think she would have been in contention to win. Podkopaeva was a great gymnast, but i just don't think that she would have been able to win had everyone been hitting. I actually think boguinskaya would have had a fair chance for a medal, if you look at her performance at the europeans earlier in the year.

    1. Miller vs Mo

    2. Lilia vs Boguinskaya

    3. Romanians

    4, Dawes moceanu and khorkina

  • LOL! The score Miller would have needed on floor to win over Lilia with her scores on the other 3 events was a 9.925. You add her deductions for her 2 mistakes and she is at most a 9.775. Here in reality would have been how it would have gone if everyone hit:

gold and silver- Huilan vs Podkopayeva

bronze medal battle- Amanar vs Dawes vs Moceanu

battle for 6th to 8th- Kochetkova vs Galieva vs Miller

battle 9th to 12th- Gogean vs Khorkina vs Milo vs Boginskaya

  • Dawes couldn't beat Milo if God AND the devil went down to Georgia.

  • 1992 had more originality and better overall dance and performance. After the Soviet Union fell, gymnastics went down.

  • Miller and Boginskaya and Onodi were the only top gymnasts with any artistry at the 1992 Olympics. In 1996 you had Podkopayeva, Khorkina , Marinsecu, Miller, Dawes (iffy form still but beautiful style by 96), little Mo, Kochetkova, Boginskaya, who all had alot of it. So needless to say I totally disagree with you.

  • there was zmeskal, too...but she choked:(

  • Zmeskal was a great gymnast but she wasnt an artist gymnast.

  • Well I would argue that Galieva, Grudneva, and even Lysenko had quite a bit of artistry and Mitova did, we all. Okino had some brand of artistry (barring her poor active flexibility) and Hadarean was the most graceful, flexible gymnast on the Romanian team.

  • Lysenko had it too...

  • @TuesdayPillow the 92 Olympics was not a stronger field. That Milosovici would have won the AA if she hadnt had a big hop on her AA beam dismount, or perhaps even if she ahdnt had a small hop on her AA bars dismount, already says enough about the 92 field. Here in 96 Milo stuck every landing and was lucky to tie for bronze with all the mistakes whereas in 92 she would have won the AA sticking every landing.

  • Does anyone know where the instrumental music of the galiyeva montage is from?

  • The music is from the movie Henry V . The name is The Day is Yours

  • Thanks. Much Appreciated.

  • so they said Roza Galiyeva had a knee ingure and she didn't!!! wow!!! and then replaced her with Tatiana Gutsu!!! SHE DIDN'T DESERVE THAT!!! btw: where r both of those gymnasts now?

  • Gutsu was the European Champion and was considered a favourite for the title, she feel of the beam during the compulsories.... To be fair to Gutsu the whole thing drove her into a nervous breakdown, so though she took the Gold it cost her far too much.

  • It was like with Judas - he got some money, but look what it ended up doing to him. I think he hung himself or something, so at least Tatiana is still alive.

  • i aggree i was watching that and was like "what is she doing?"

  • "pumping her ribcage" is called breathing....

  • you're kidding me. is that how you breathe?

  • I think rileywatts is referring to when she arches her back and sticks her chest out simultaneously in between skills.

  • You never see four in a row tumbling passes on the beam anymore.

  • or a double back dismount! gymnastics is too hard and not artistic enough anymore.... atlanta was really the peak of gymnastics, with the difficult floor skills, compulsories, and so much talent from almost all the teams....

  • I totally agree, gymnastics needs to go back to combining difficult skills with artistry, I really missed those days. From 1988 to 2000 olympics were great, with 96 being the peak.

  • agreed..very conservative now (meaning low artistry and more precision)

  • and you can generally forget difficult mounts as well...

  • Does anyone else wonder who chose the Russian Jester leotards? They are distracting from their amazing gymnastics.

  • lol omg THANK YOU. it was the 90's-- such awful leos.

  • They have had such low funds since 1990, that the quality of the leotards has suffered badly.. These were also towelling, the Romanians also had cheap nasty leotards

  • i do

  • i do

  • does anyone else thinks that gutsu looks just like shannon miller?

  • Not me.
