Not all the anglo/euro immigrant populations that came to America owned slaves - swedes, norwegians, portugese, russians, germans, italians, polish, swiss, are all white and mostly didn't own slaves - you mean WASP mainly - white people differntiate among themselves by ethnicity - think german Catholics vs. Scottish Protestants, Swedes vs Italians - all "white" but with distinct differences - for advice on dealing, ask the Irish-Americans, they were despised for centuries -
Being proud to be white is implied. Of course you would be proud of it because no one ever said or implied it was bad versus black, asian, hispanic, female, jewish, muslim, gay, bi ect.
That mind set is part of the problem with race. Have you heard of the 13th amendment? Ashkenazi Jews, Southern Europeans (Spaniards, Greeks, Italians etc.), Irish Catholics, Eastern Europeans and Germans at some point were not considered white. Early on in the United States, white generally referred to those of British Isles or northwestern European descent. The idea of race changes throughout time.
@GeeLove1212 Well when it ACTUALLY becomes that simplified and everyone is treated like a "human", you let me know......It was whites who came up with the concept of "race" in the first place and whites in the U.S. that came up with the "one-drop rule" that biracial people like to blame Black people for coming up with.
i will join the discussion about white, black, bi-racial and the like ONCE anyone gives me a reason to. human lifespan is about 100 years, that's not long enough for me to include such non-sense talks.

I think the term "biracial" is imperfect as typically used. But I've found it useful for ppl who have two natural parents of different predominantly monoracial heritages since their experiences tend to be fundamentally different from ppl w/ predominantly mono-racial parents. Often - not always - there's also the added dimension of a physical appearance revealing obvious results of two distinct ethnicities. Ppl who are just, say, 1-10% biracial typically won't see/feel the same effects.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This whole thing does get confusing. I say that as someone who also identifies as "biracial". Technically it's true that many people who identify as "Black" in this country are biracial, because Biracial simply means two racial lineages. That means someone can be technically "biracial" if s/he is 99% African and just 1% Caucasian (or vice versa). ... have more to say about it though in a sec ...
@piscesariescusp121 it's a damn diary. do you know what a diary is? it's going to be about yourself donkey (includes the other 20 fockers that thumbed up bleah(input 'slow' face).
in summary, a diary is mostly about yourself, which would include various notes about the world around you as well as SELF-REFLECTION.

I dont think that having a black parent and a white parent is the definition of being bi racial but it is apart of that definition. This is called the Mulatto diaries which means this has to do with people who are mixed with black and white. And I'm very grateful to have this on youtube.

For someone like myself, who's parents are both African-American. I found your jestful approach you being proud of your "whiteness" was very good and entertaining :0)
I have a question for you (and this isn't me tryin' to take a slice at you):
Do you personally feel that, because you are bi-racial, that you did not inherit the full weight of African-American disparity?

In Charleston, South Carolina in 1860 125 free Negroes owned slaves; six of them owning 10 or more. Of the $1.5 million in taxable property owned by free Negroes in Charleston, more than $300,000 represented slave holdings. In North Carolina 69 free Negroes were slave owners.
In 1860 William Ellison was South Carolina's largest Negro slaveowner. In Black Masters. A Free Family of Color in the Old South, authors Michael Johnson and J. Roak write a sympathetic account of Ellison's life.

The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals who owned slaves. Even if all slaveholders had been white, that would amount to only 1.4 % of whites in the country (or 4.8 % of southern whites owning one or more slaves).
According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly 4.5 million Negroes in the US, with fewer than 4 million of them living in the southern slaveholding states. Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The fact is large numbers of free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact, in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large. In 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. According to the U.S. census report for that last year before the Civil War, there were nearly 27 million whites in the country. Some eight million of them lived in the slaveholding states.

Great analysis. I love what you said about the ease of living and high expectations that white ppl. have inherited. Lot's of ppl. try to capture this, but you've put it very well. Not to incite animosity between the races, but to clarify the differences in experience. Just as white ppl. have inherited it, black people have inherited the uneasy mind, the expectation to struggle and work twice as hard. It is good to learn from past generations, but sometimes we inherent their burdens.
I got 25% White in me and it is hard to be proud of it after all the racism my mother and I had to face during growing up in Germany and I grew up around whites they treated me different so I felt different some treated me extremely negative the other side extremely positive, I tried to connect but it was hard my parents raised me black tho so I never had an identity crisis, But one thing I wanna mention is mulattos growing up around blacks dont face such drastic extemes not like I did at least

interesting. I will have to watch that. I know what you mean about hip hop, but there is a ton of great hip hop out there! check out these music labels/artists for example:
syntax records
beat mart
The Procussions (sp)
RedCloud
Man O War
Lucy DIamonds
These are just a few examples of positive hip hop resources.

What do you think is biracial tiffany? do you look at the fact that black people like me have a percent of white blood as you do. And there are alot of white people who are black what is biracal to you im 35%white 15% native 50% African if im right am i not mixed? What do you think about genetic mutation which turn albino blacks with yellow hair and green eyes white there they migrated north now they are white people you did know this?

have you lived with white people? do you genuinely love white people? is the veil of otherness that the history of this country imposes on people been lifted for you personally by the very virtue of your parentage. do you "know" that race is a made-up social construct developed to keep some people on top and others on the bottom. it's about having a black and a white parent. the coming together of these 2 things that most people perceive to be polar opposites that don't mix.

Yes! i do love white people the bible tells you to love those who hate you. And i love them because i am apart of that culture even though they might not exept me as much as my black culture does its still there i dont pretend that i dont have mixed ancestry as some African Americans do.How does it make you feel to know that 50 years ago you would be known as a full black negro because in Africa! that word is pure Afican. Black! people arent pure African just as you arent fully African.

I think you have the wrong idea! i love what you are doing i just dont know if you see that black people as a whole are mixed people just because the blood isnt as close and the hair in some doesnt tell doesnt mean that it isnt there that one reason why they created the one drop rule.

I don't consider "White" to be a race. There are several white races. Nords, scotts, sami, galls, goth, saxons, angles, those are all white races. Come back when you learn some sociology.

The hip hop generation does reach up but then the white capitalist exploit us and promote the negative more than the positve. THEY OWN THE MEDIA AND RECORD COMPANIES. DUH. Black ppl don't want to be poor anymore so they just create the material that the white capitalists will promote. It's what is marketable. The maket wants negative images of black ppl.

hmmm were do I start with this I am to mixed and I understand were you and the other girl are coming from it is ok to say you are proud to be white but white power is a kkk chant so its best not to show your pride that way its like black ppl running around screaming black panthers... Despite what you think racial difference is still out there I see it all the time I am a us soldier and I see it there as well

Nobody talks about whiteness, because whites fear blacks will think you're a racist if you do... blacks can play the race card... it trumps everything, even if used in the wrong situation... so whites have to tread on eggshells, whereas blacks reaffirm there blackness all the time.
At least that's my perception of americans. In england i'm glad we left all that crap behind years ago. We group people by cultures, not by skin, which is far too simplistic.
YOU ARE NOT WHITE...GET OVER YURSELF CUS U LOOK DUMB...YEA UR MIXED BUT SO IS MAJORITY OF BLKS IN THE US..U CAN BE CONSIDERED AS BLK BUT SINCE U DONT LIKE ThAT U ARE A MULATTO COFFEE OR WATEVER U WANT TO CALL UR SELF..BUT U ARE ANNOYING...CUS IT REALLY NOT THAT SERIOUS...& YUO HAVE NOTHING INTERESTING TO TALK ABOUT

Whites people make up 7% of the worlds population. How could 7% of the worlds population control and abuse the other 93%? Some of you are sounding the same about white people as Hitler sounded about the Jews. Black people aside maybe from the 3% that voted for McCain are way more racist than white people, face facts.
power and money and better war tools or weapons. That is all it is needed to control even though it is a minority on the planet (if your numbers are true).
Sometimes in order to feel good we have to make someone else feel bad, if everyone is proud then pride loses it's meaning, if everyone's happy then "happy" loses it's meaning, racism is the ultimate example of this principle in action, for one to be proud of ones own background one has to make others who aren't of that background ashamed, ideally I think everyone should be proud of what they are of course but I can see why it's not easy to have that, it's because it goes against human nature.

Good to hear that biracial people acknowledge both sides and not denying either parent. Its good to be normal. As you said the old racist slave holding one drop rule is so racist it is not funny. Love your videos. You make a lot of good points. I'm not bi-racial, but I am of African-American/Native American/French/English descent, but I identify as Black. I think all people need to be proud of their diversity and ancestry. I'm proud of all my races even though I identify as Black. I am, however, not proud of the fact that my French/English ancestors probably raped my African ancestors, but it is the past. Let's embrace all our heritage and races, the world would be much better.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I applaud your acceptance of your "whiteness"lol.I am not bi-racial at all, I am of african/native american/and white descent, but I claim all. I see no reason why people should feel as though they should condemn one race in order to uplift another. Why can't we uplift all, while still maintaing the point that it may not be as equal as t should be and may never be but still, you know. I get the whole complexity of the race issue but I think you made a vaild point that is not readilt addresed.
I think its fine for her to be proud of both of her ancestries, what makes her the exception? Truthfully I think white people are proud to be white which isn't wrong its just that groups like the KKK have ruined it for you all because if you say you are proud you are scared to be called a racist unless you are really one. Anyone should be able to be proud of their ancestry well until the point you use your ancestry to prove that you are better the someone else.
but what was that point? you said you were proud to be white but yet focused on all the black issues i wanted to hear what being white was like for you and you didnt mention it at all. Most people of duel heritage say they are black but this was an opportuinty for you to dispell this myth and i felt you didnt really explore it.
The point, as was clearly stated above, was to point out to my (largely black) audience that we have an aversion to hearing anything that sounds remotely like "i'm proud to be white" because it is equated with KKK, racism, etc. But it's not the same as "white power" and people should be free to be proud of whatever they are. i explore whiteness in other videos. i made this particular vid to talk about "the black list." The other was just an idea i tossed out in the beginning.

The reason blacks say they are proud to be black is becuse we don't know our ancestral lineage. White ppl know their ancestral so they can say "Irish pride" or "English pride" or "Italian pride" etc. If they used these terms then I don't think anyone would be offended. the term White = colonialism (in ppls mind) It's all marketing.=)

Hi Tiff. Forgive me if I missed it. But could you tell me why you're proud to be white. I didn't hear it in the video.
For instance I can say I'm proud to be black because my ancestors came from being considered less than human to Presidential candidates, demanded the rights due us for HELPING to build the US for free, lead the way in creative social style/music, and a genuinely loving people; unless we are provoked by someone thinking they're better than us based on skin color,etc..thx
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
obama stopped mentioning his white parents because he felt he was ingratiating himself to whites. that could be what's wrong with what your saying. it's not like you should choose sides or anything, but should be more careful so that people wont see you as shifting between when it might be convenient for you. don't - i guess - trap yourself because what people think about you matters and you don't have full control over that. Being black is the best example ever of that lack of control.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think that you may be a few, I guess, wisdom thought points away from knowing why saying "I'm proud to be white" is just unnecessary, along with being politically incorrect and tacky. Yes, your black side is something you should defend, not by compulsion but out of...necessity; it's the side of you that your most likely going to be ostracized for. well, not ostracized, but even seeming peculiar because your blackness should annoy you.
No offense... I'm watching some of your videos but I really don't "get you". If you are an immediate blend of two ethnicities, why would you not be proud to be both? Who are the people you hang around that make you feel that saying you are proud to be white is bad? My grandfather is white and I'm proud of him and the risks he took to be with my grandmother. No offense... I just really don't "get" all your videos. You seem really consumed with being "mixed". Just my opinion.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
exactly!!! which is probably part of the reason i've slowed down on the vids! i truly appreciate your time and attention. i think this stuff is worth evaluating and i do think it's been ignored (as far as honest discussion goes) for years so i really don't see any harm in me talking about it. rest assured tho, that this is not the topic of my daily discussions. you could easily meet me and not hear the words biracial or race or any of that come out of my mouth. if asked about it tho....
whiteness is only relative to blackness. when black folks are out of the picture white people will seperate themselves according to ethnicity. So how are you proud to just be white? What part of whiteness are you so proud of? Are you Italian, Irish or what?
@blk1865: I have to agree with you. Being a multiracial individual I've come to understand that, as you've said, blackness owes itself to whiteness. Originally when they first came to the USA the Irish and Italians were labeled as "black", and in Europe, before the Europeans stumbled into Africa (quite literally), the Irish, Italians, and the Scots were consider, pardon my use of this word please, the "Niggers of Europe". All of this racial stuff was invented by white people as a way to distract
contd.: People from realizing that it was all just some b.s. the ruling elite made up to keep them separated and meek, or, in the cases of "white" individuals, feeling superior even if their own socio-economic status was at, or even bellow, that of those they felt "superior" to.
All of this is just a social construct, unless you count the EXTREMELY minor geneological varations among the THREE somewhat recognized "races". In the end people should just be themselves whether that is "white"
I agree with you transendingtime... it shouldn't matter what someone is... When a person makes a huge deal out of being mixed, it's not "cool" it's just a bit obnoxious. I can understand having pride in a culture or being proud of your two cultures but, it's not really a huge deal... that needs to be discussed over and over.

@EfikZara: lol, I suppose. Although I went through a similar phase a couple of years ago where I would actually stop people in mid-sentence and say, rather obnoxiously, "Actually I'm less than half black, my parents are mixed." Jeez, did I come off as an ass or what? Granted it's kind of irritating being called the "black kid" or "my black friend" all the time but that's just something I've come to understand about "white" people.
Unless my skin was white and my hair was straighish I was
contd.: always going to be considered black, no matter whether or not I "looked" that way. Granted my Latino, and some black, friends always though I was Puerto Rican or Dominican.
It's funny really, and it was at that time that I realized that unless you have the "bi-racial/multiracial look" it really doesn't matter, because what people assume you to be is all they're going to see you as because that's what their culture has taught them. I personally don't see the point in correcting people
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol, I meant to put *thought*, not though. Anyway, I just never saw the point in correcting people because after a while I realized that it really didn't matter, and it caused a lot of problems with both black and white people (meaning they both looked at me as if to say "PLEASE, you're black, get over it").
Now for someone like Tiffany I can understand it's a bit different since one of her parents is actually white and one is black, so it may be different exprience for her. No?

After all, she does have more of a direct link to both her whiteness and blackness, versus my mixed + mixed experience so I can understand why she might be little more interested in expressing her views on being biracial.
Yeah, lol... makes sense. I am sure that my opinion from yesterday stemmed from exasperation. I think admiring your culture is brilliant and it's a wonderful thing but, don't ooooverdo it because then, it wears out its beauty.
@EfikZara: lol, I can understand that. I sometimes get exasperated when other biracial/multiracial people go on, and on, and on, and on, and on...about being biracial/multiracial (especially the "Tragic Mulatto" types). And you're right, after awhile it's just like "Damn, I feel you and all that, but can we move on now?" lol XD

I watch your vids not because of your hair, but because of what you are talking about. Top shelf commentary. "The Black List" was much more relevant to me than the "proud white" comment. We focus so much on the petty things which is why we remain "behind the eight ball." The Black List II is in the works and I can't wait. We should be focusing more on the social commentary of those who are out there achieving--regardless of complexion--rather than the half-satirical comments of Biracial Tiffany.
REALITY IS THAT SUN-LIT WORLD SOME OF US LIVE IN AND WE PRECEIVE IT TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH A TRUTH. HOWEVER WHEN IT COMES TO DEFINITIONS OF A SOCIAL NATURE IT PAYS TO BE CIRCUMSPECT IN that THE GOVERNING DYMAMICS ARE TRANSITORY AT BEST.
i can't argue with you, but everyone should be allowed to feel proud of who they are even if they are white. i think a lot of the "white guilt" comes from the "stigma" attached to whiteness. but that leads to some type of denial of the very real issues of race.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Do you get offended with the term "mulatto"? I do. I think it is such an ignorant, disrespectful term. I too am proud to be white and it feels good to defend my other side for a change. I love being biracial and would not want to be anything else. We truly have the "best of both worlds". I do understand that I am probably portrayed as black by "society", but I will never check white or black. If there's no option for biracial or mixed, I will be left with no other option but to choose "other".

I can't help but be hostile to the notion of "white pride". Too much history there, none of it even remotely good. Not saying you should be ashamed of it quite the opposite (especially concerning your dad and extended family) but proclaiming it like that... gah. I almost unsubscribed.
How should she proclaim it then? By continuing to be hostile about it you are being like so many others who think you have to be one race or the other.

I've never heard this before (proud to be white)... I'm not sure I like this message but I know that it's not neccessarily for my liking... I really love "Black in America". It's a wonderful program and it allows you to have, or take on the, "chill out attitude", and that's because it's encouraging... Obama is the "now what" and I love him for it. I have seen blacks from the Caribean and Africa fight darn harm for the American dream. That's also part of the, "now what".
Yes because it is your ancestry. But to say " I am proud to be white" is very racist.I think she made it clear a long time ago that she proud of her heritage. But why is it neccessary to declare " I am proud of being white".Its not neccessary.Especially since the whole legacy of black oppression in America is just rather insulting.I don't feel she intends it to that way but thats how I take it.I think most people would be put off by that as well.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I agree that alot of people would be put off by it but that is necessary for change. She is black and white so she should be able to say both or neither. I is not right that she should have to say I am proud to be Black and oh yeah I am white too but not so proud because I do not want to step on toes. Black pride can be extremely rapist and so can white but both can be used in a positive. Too me it is empowering to not be afraid of someone who say I am proud to be white, no shame in that.

Rapist?..... I guess you meant racist...LOL I am not afraid of anyone that says they are proud to be white.I just don't agree with stating that because in my view its seen as a negative reaction against non whites. Its one thing to be proud of being biracial and proud of both your black and white ancestry. That is clearly understood by her videos. But, I simply disagree with the statement " I am proud to be white".But, again thats me thats how I feel.

Sorry about the typing mistake, guess i am not as good as I thought at multitasking.
I understand how you feel but I also understand how many biracial people feel. It's just not fair to be able to be freely proud of one race above another. If you are not scared then what are you? If you knew what she meant what is the real problem? I want to work toward equality and someone being proud to be white is part of that.If I said black pride among my friends most of them would be scared.
No, you can just say one parent is white and one is black. But, I just think it sounds very racist to say one is proud to be white. Its hardly ever used except by racist people. But, if it makes her happy then more power to her.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It should not be that way and I commend her for taking a stand and showing that white pride does not have to be racist. The fact of the matter is that it is wrong to be able to say black pride and not say white pride, both can be racist and both can be encouraging. I say neither because my pride is in Christ above everything but that is just me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I agree with Actingdrama that when African Americans say Black Pride it is like a peep talk to build up ones self esteem. We are talking about over 400 years of oppression where African Americans were told they were nothing. So saying I am black and I am proud its like reclaiming pride in ones culture. The oppressed culture. We are all humans regardless of race of course. But, like I said if it makes her happy they hey do what makes you happy.I don't agree but thats just me I guess.
I think that I do not care if someone says they are proud to be white because I want equality and not to let the scares of the past control my ever thought. Now do not get me wrong slavery of the past still does affect America but I refuse to let it oppress me. I know I have alot of confidence and boldness and I do not expect anyone to be like me. Oh and did you know that there is still slavery in America and Africa? No one seems to care about that though.
Really I didn't know that. Thanks for clearing that up for me.:) I know that never disagreed with that I simply disagree with her stating " I am proud to be white".In my view that is a racist statement. But, she is entiled to her view and I can agree or disagree.Thats what this forum is about we don't all think alike luckily.
(rahatlokhoum) That, I can swallow with out having mixed feelings... I understand what she means, it's just that when ever I hear, "white pride" I think of Hitler (and that is b/c of my own personal experience not b/c she said anything wrong).

I dont think that having a black parent and a white parent is the definition of being bi racial but it is apart of that definition. This is called the Mulatto diaries which means this has to do with people who are mixed with black and white. And I'm very grateful to have this on youtube.

What's wrong is people instantly assuming that anyone who say they are proud to be white, is a racist.
It is perfectly fine to be proud of the positive aspects of your racial heritage no matter what race it may belong to.

@tiffdjones:
Sorry -- but -- "having a black and a white
parent" is NOT 'THE' definition' of biracial.
In fact, a good number of biracials (and of

Also -- a mixed-race person does *not*
have to "live with" or "genuinely love" a

Sometimes in order to feel good we have to make someone else feel bad, if everyone is proud then pride loses it's meaning, if everyone's happy then "happy" loses it's meaning, racism is the ultimate example of this principle in action, for one to be proud of ones own background one has to make others who aren't of that background ashamed, ideally I think everyone should be proud of what they are of course but I can see why it's not easy to have that, it's because it goes against human nature.

I think all people need to be proud of their diversity and ancestry. I'm proud of all my races even though I identify as Black.
CaliforniaGuy88 3 years ago 2

Most people of duel heritage say they are black but this was an opportuinty for you to dispell this myth and i felt you didnt really explore it.
dlfunky 3 years ago
The point, as was clearly stated above, was to point out to my (largely black) audience that we have an aversion to hearing anything that sounds remotely like "i'm proud to be white" because it is equated with KKK, racism, etc. But it's not the same as "white power" and people should be free to be proud of whatever they are. i explore whiteness in other videos. i made this particular vid to talk about "the black list." The other was just an idea i tossed out in the beginning.

The reason blacks say they are proud to be black is becuse we don't know our ancestral lineage. obama stopped mentioning his white parents because he felt he was ingratiating himself to whites. that could be what's wrong with what your saying. it's not like you should choose sides or anything, but should be more careful so that people wont see you as shifting between when it might be convenient for you. don't - i guess - trap yourself because what people think about you matters and you don't have full control over that. Being black is the best example ever of that lack of control.

All of this is just a social construct, unless you count the EXTREMELY minor geneological varations among the THREE somewhat recognized "races". In the end people should just be themselves whether that is "white"

Jeez, did I come off as an ass or what? It's funny really, and it was at that time that I realized that unless you have the "bi-racial/multiracial look" it really doesn't matter, because what people assume you to be is all they're going to see you as because that's what their culture has taught them. I personally don't see the point in correcting people

I am so glad that in todays society you can embrace both sides. 30 years ago you would have just had to have been black period. American society is slowly become more open. Very very slowly.

HOWEVER WHEN IT COMES TO DEFINITIONS OF A SOCIAL NATURE IT PAYS TO BE CIRCUMSPECT IN that THE GOVERNING DYMAMICS ARE TRANSITORY AT BEST.
firefox8192 3 years ago
truth is reletive and somtimes illogical. especially when the so-called truth cannot be reconciled to reality.
firefox8192 3 years ago
it seems to me that reality should be reconciled to the truth. i do agree that truth is relative tho.

i can't argue with you, but everyone should be allowed to feel proud of who they are even if they are white. i think a lot of the "white guilt" comes from the "stigma" attached to whiteness. but that leads to some type of denial of the very real issues of race.

If there's no option for biracial or mixed, I will be left with no other option but to choose "other".
marajaynaya 3 years ago
i am offended by the word and if someone called me that i would not take kindly to it. i'm offended by the word "other" too, tho not as deeply.

HMMM. i guess it is because you have a white dad...i cant see that having a white mom, nor living in the south/north, or because the knowledge of myself is so deep that i have no 'pride " issues w/ any of these races...we were created in a race war..though our parents didnt feel they were at war w/ eachother, that doesnt deny the fact that MULATTO'S need their OWN PRIDE....WE ARE DIFFERENT FROM BLACKS AND WHITES....when will we ever see that as x-breeds, zebra's, mules, etc
GRIMELORD 3 years ago
we are different, yes, but then again we are ALL the same

Also I just noticed (and I don't know if this was on purpose or not) but in the picture at the end from your photo shoot, the side of your face that has the curly hair is in shadow so it even looks like your skin is darker on that side. I just thought it was cool I guess lol :)
abberwocky 3 years ago
good eye. it was photoshopped that way so it's like a black half and a white half :) thanks for noticing!

I can't help but be hostile to the notion of "white pride". Too much history there, none of it even remotely good. Not saying you should be ashamed of it quite the opposite (especially concerning your dad and extended family) but proclaiming it like that... gah. I almost unsubscribed.
Craydon 3 years ago
How should she proclaim it then? By continuing to be hostile about it you are being like so many others who think you have to be one race or the other.

I've never heard this before (proud to be white)... I'm not sure I like this message but I know that it's not neccessarily for my liking... I really love "Black in America". It's a wonderful program and it allows you to have, or take on the, "chill out attitude", and that's because it's encouraging... Obama is the "now what" and I love him for it. I have seen blacks from the Caribean and Africa fight darn harm for the American dream. That's also part of the, "now what".
hollyhollyrose 3 years ago
I ment, fight darn hard for the American dream.
hollyhollyrose 3 years ago
Her message is not just being proud to be white but proud to be black and white or whatever race you are for that matter.
sequyas 3 years ago
exactly!!!

I think she was better off just simply saying that she is proud of her ancestry.
rahatlokhoum 3 years ago 17
So if you are of mixed race and one of them happens to be white, you would have to say ancestry? That does not sound better off to me.
sequyas 3 years ago
Yes because it is your ancestry. But to say " I am proud to be white" is very racist.I think she made it clear a long time ago that she proud of her heritage. But why is it neccessary to declare " I am proud of being white".Its not neccessary.Especially since the whole legacy of black oppression in America is just rather insulting.I don't feel she intends it to that way but thats how I take it.I think most people would be put off by that as well.

Too me it is empowering to not be afraid of someone who say I am proud to be white, no shame in that.
sequyas 3 years ago

I want to work toward equality and someone being proud to be white is part of that.If I said black pride among my friends most of them would be scared.
sequyas 3 years ago
No, you can just say one parent is white and one is black. But, I just think it sounds very racist to say one is proud to be white. Its hardly ever used except by racist people. But, if it makes her happy then more power to her.

It should not be that way and I commend her for taking a stand and showing that white pride does not have to be racist. The fact of the matter is that it is wrong to be able to say black pride and not say white pride, both can be racist and both can be encouraging. I say neither because my pride is in Christ above everything but that is just me.

But, like I said if it makes her happy they hey do what makes you happy.I don't agree but thats just me I guess.
rahatlokhoum 3 years ago
I think that I do not care if someone says they are proud to be white because I want equality and not to let the scares of the past control my ever thought. Now do not get me wrong slavery of the past still does affect America but I refuse to let it oppress me. I know I have alot of confidence and boldness and I do not expect anyone to be like me. Oh and did you know that there is still slavery in America and Africa? No one seems to care about that though.

One parent being black and one being white makes her BOTH black and white, hence the term bi-racial. Kudos to her for having the courage to say it.
NapturallyHappy 3 years ago
Really I didn't know that. Thanks for clearing that up for me.:) I know that never disagreed with that I simply disagree with her stating " I am proud to be white".In my view that is a racist statement. But, she is entiled to her view and I can agree or disagree.Thats what this forum is about we don't all think alike luckily.
rahatlokhoum 3 years ago
(rahatlokhoum) That, I can swallow with out having mixed feelings... I understand what she means, it's just that when ever I hear, "white pride" I think of Hitler (and that is b/c of my own personal experience not b/c she said anything wrong).
