I'm sure there's some legitimate reasons teams incorporate black in their uniforms. In the case of the Eagles, the logo would not be legible w/o the black outlines. Black is also the cheapest, easiest and most versatile color to create artwork out of, not to mention uniforms and gear. Television is another factor: For some teams, like Carolina and Detroit, player identifications would be harder w/o @ least black outlines.

What is the deal with the jaguars and lions and bengals and these fashion shows every time they change the stripes on the pants. I could see if it was a major overhaul but, I don't want to see maurice jones-drew walk down a catwalk every year for a new retro, alternate black, new striping on pants.
