@FanatecSystem Karting is where most F1 drivers start their career. All but one of the drivers on the F1 grid in 2011 started in karting (exception being Petrov). Drivers are often keen to use karting to tune up their skills coming out of injury and love to do it for charity (such as in this video). Felipe Massa even hosts an annual karting event.

Besides, these karts are much more powerful than karts we hire out for fun on the weekends. A proper racing kart can get up to 120km/h+

Luca Badoer was doing very well there, especially before the restart. I don't think the criticism he recieved in 2009 was fair, he's a very good driver but is used to racing (not testing) a much older F1 car.

His lack of practice with the modern F1 car meant his racing lines were poor, but he did set the fastest 3rd sector time in Spa by a long way, which showed some underlying potential. I said he was 'very good' in that 1st comment - perhaps not by F1 standards, but if he is as bad as some make out Ferrari wouldn't have used him for 12 years.

When he was with schumi, he always came second. He finished two world championships as 2nd and third. That means that if schumacher wasn't there, he would have been the winner of all those championships.
