Is it just me or is anyone else notice how guitarists nowadays, such as shown here, seem to be capable of executing amazingly complex and innovative orchestrations, but fail to really hit the sweet notes when it comes to lead and melody, especially pleasant intonation with single note vibrato past the twelfth fret. It's like being an Olympic runner thats a clumst walker, or a swimmer that can't tread water..
As the David Bowie said, it's not who does it first, it's who does it second. This song is no less awesome than Sikth's Skies of Millenium Night, and the rif at 2:06 is spun, flipped and made new. Rock on.
Misha dude. I'm in love with your brown-ness. It'd be swell if you could let me know what seven string/amp I should invest in because the sound of a seven string makes me feel like i can slay dragons with my dong.
@Blader999 I know misha uses Bareknuckle pickups in most of his guitars. and I think i saw a video where he was talking about active pickups saying "batteries are for flashlights!" (referring to how actives are battery powered) haha
@Blader999 Not to speak for him or anything, but he just had a custom Jackson made with basswood body and a bolt-on maple neck that says he really enjoys for all the bite and the tight low end it has, similar to the EBMMJP series specs.
EMGs tend to be very compressed, but with an 18V mod can get a pretty decent sound. Misha uses BKPs and DiMarzios mostly, and almost exclusively uses an Axe-FX now.
I love the pinch harmonics in this song, it just makes me go "METTOLLLLLL!" not even kidding, the air guitar i have at work to this song is immense...
Misha, do you prefer I just look on ebay for an axe fx standard or ultra, or should I save up for the axe fx 2?
And when it comes to the processor, exactly how much more powerful and realistic is it? Enough to just wait and save up for it, or spend less on the older generation axe fx's?
I can't find a well transcribed tab for this song. Does anyone know where I can get them? Bulbs skills has obviously fucked my ears too hard to be able to play this song by ear.
Even if you're used to picking like that after doing it for so long; doesn't your arm get tired from downpicking and tremolopicking when using it for an extensive period of time? Because in the vid it seems like you're picking with your whole damn arm.
@CombatWombat1995 He doesn't know scales, he does it all by ear i belive. the only periphery solo i know is the jetpacks was yes solo and thats just natural minor scale
@CombatWombat1995 I believe the solos you are referring to were played by Nolly, and if I'm not mistaken there mostly diminished arpeggios or a half whole diminished scale (half step whole step, repeat forever)
@CombatWombat1995 it would seem he basis his solos off of chord progressions and groove rather than actual scales. i really want to be able to do that, it sounds killer. but my stuff is mainly different arrangements of scale patterns. got the habit from listening to too much malmsteen... lol
@SUBLIMEDUDESTP dude, I WISH IT WOULD. holy fuck djent this djent that. its not a fucking genre. and when they say they listen to djent theyre always like, after the burial, meshuggah, and maybe animals as leaders and periphery. i hate ATB so anything i say about them is biased, but i really dont think the others should be listed in anything to do with ATB.

I've been listening to Periphery for 2 weeks (love that shit!) and bought the CD yesterday. It's a very good album and I wanna say something regarding Spencer. If you have a problem with Periphery, MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MUSIC!
first off you guys are amazing and should come back to perform in Holland once more! but my real question is how the hell do you get those harmonics all the damn time >.< xD I would like to do that to. any tips?
Just one question/request: Have you guys given any thought to using 8-string guitars in your music? If not, could you? XD I'd love to see what you're capable of with an extra low string for all that extra-djenty-goodness. :P
Oh, and I might post a video of me playing Icarus Lives! on that 8-string. Yeah, I know I don't need that extra string, but the pickups are better than the ones in my RG-7321.
Hey one question Misha what tuning do you use most of the time I heard it was Drop C but I've also heard Drob A flat? Also those pinch harmonics are sooooo tight haha
@XUsernamePendingX its a variant of drop-a. Its AGCFAD low to high. So basically you tune your guitar down a whole step from E Standard and then drop the low string a further 2.5 steps to a low A.
@Freezaen I guess you were wrong haha, it seems that most people disagree with you, and this once again shows why its pointless to do anything other than do what sounds right to us, not to you.
@Freezaen hey man i agree, the dude's vocals are the only reason i don't listen to periphery. And i personally don't think you should be chastised for having or voicing your opinion.
@blackinkguy Agree on all counts. Spencer's voice is not to my tastes but everything else is. The vocal lines are great I just don't like his tone. And voicing your opinion is a great thing. Telling someone their opinion is wrong is not. Basic stuff people.
@blackinkguy Careful, Bulb might come back to rage some more. I'm glad you agree with me though. I so hope I won't get banned or some shit like that . XD
@Freezaen We would never ban anyone or delete their comments for expressing themselves. But we in that same respect, we should be allowed to express ourselves back and voice our side of things as well. If that concept doesnt make sense to you, then you are just being unreasonable!
@Periphery Not at all, I just never felt that my comment was worth an argument. Then again, I find it quite interesting that things have come this far, it's like a long-term debate. Coolios. XD
Hey Misha!
You're just incredibly unique and skilled, I seldomly don't listen to Periphery's music.
I got a question ... Your song quality is top notch.
Could you tell me, what amp you used in like Zylgrox, Ow My Feelings, Icarus Lives and so on?
I'd like to get it when I got the big cash, to make sure that I can trust in the amps dynamics and sound.
And what's your opinion about active EMG's? What pickups do you mostly use in your 7-strings, do you like Mahogany or Alder-wood more?

@Stacy420 Their song "Captain On" is on an 8 string, the 8th string is only used in a few parts though.

Hey one question Misha what tuning do you use most of the time I heard it was Drop C but I've also heard Drob A flat? Also those pinch harmonics are sooooo tight haha

the tapping in the intro is the most inspiring tapping i've ever seen! hands down!

What's the tuning for this song, string by string?
XUsernamePendingX 8 months ago
@XUsernamePendingX its a variant of drop-a. Its AGCFAD low to high. So basically you tune your guitar down a whole step from E Standard and then drop the low string a further 2.5 steps to a low A.

Wow, I had no idea people would take my comments so seriously. Just opinion. Sorry for all the hassle. XD

@Freezaen I guess you were wrong haha, it seems that most people disagree with you, and this once again shows why its pointless to do anything other than do what sounds right to us, not to you.

@Freezaen hey man i agree, the dude's vocals are the only reason i don't listen to periphery. And i personally don't think you should be chastised for having or voicing your opinion.
blackinkguy 6 months ago
@blackinkguy Agree on all counts. Spencer's voice is not to my tastes but everything else is. The vocal lines are great I just don't like his tone. And voicing your opinion is a great thing. Telling someone their opinion is wrong is not. Basic stuff people.

@blackinkguy Careful, Bulb might come back to rage some more. I'm glad you agree with me though. I so hope I won't get banned or some shit like that . XD
Freezaen 6 months ago
@Freezaen We would never ban anyone or delete their comments for expressing themselves. But we in that same respect, we should be allowed to express ourselves back and voice our side of things as well. If that concept doesnt make sense to you, then you are just being unreasonable!
Periphery 6 months ago
@Periphery Not at all, I just never felt that my comment was worth an argument. Then again, I find it quite interesting that things have come this far, it's like a long-term debate. Coolios. XD
