People are so fucking stupid! I keep reading comments about Manson getting his ribs taken out to suck his own dick... That could NEVER happen! Probably one of those Christian Bible grippers!
what's weird is that over the years he stopped playing guitar and now when someone hands him a guitar it's as if he could never really play......even though back then someone like him would not just strap on a guitar and pretend to play live...thats what it seems like today, it makes me sad
@solja1011 no, but i jerk off enough to know that touching my own dick doesn't make me gay, and you can bet your ass that if i could blow myself i would never leave my house.
@Flales001 yea according to albums ive obtained there are no words about Manson doing any work with guitars except of course reveling his plans how he would like a tune to sound. He is all about lyrics and general idea.
@Flales001 LMAO!!!!!! You're joking right? Portrait was Trent Reznor and The Spooky Kids. Antichrist to Holywood was Twiggy. Golden Age was John 5. EMDM was Skold. And then The High End Of Low was Twiggy again. Brian Warner himself is a SHITTY musician.
I like this version of a great song. The tempo and anger by MM makes it rock a little more and seem less meloncholy......The orignal version done by Gary Numan was ahead of it's time. Nice post!
I love the original and I love this - in this exact version I feel Manson does a good job. Just shows how Numan's bleak vision still resonates today and will continue - its only fitting that it would spill into the distorted world of metal/rock.
1) I'm sorry but... what the fuck is Manson "singing" (that term is a charitable characterization)?! It bears absolutely no melodic resemblance to the original/real song, i.e., Gary Numan/Tubeway Army. 2) The keyboardist couldn't be bothered to learn anything approximating the actual synth parts. 3) MM: Please refrain from butchering other peoples songs in future and stick to doing whatever the fuck it is you do. Worst...cover...ever. Certified.
Manson turned this song into something the origional by Gary the fag sucked. horrid sounding vocals and the moves from the vid i saw he looks like a fag.
@Eyeslayer lol actualy i have never heard of the man. i just saw a lot of negative toward another artist and had to comment. IF he was being trashed on a manson link i would have trashed manson. people are far too negative.
If Gary Numan came up with this specific remake to Down in the Park, he would have gotten some radio time again. And, NIN version is too much like the original and not near as good. Gary Numan's remake of this song with John Peel was far better than the original as well.
His covers and originals may not appeal to everyone, but you can always accommodate Manson on trying new things. You may not like it,but that doesn't mean someone else won't.It all is a matter of opinion and taste in music.
@arttt225 I agree that it is all a matter of taste. In theory the only people who should care about this video would be the people who wrote the song (or adapted it) or the people that are performing it. Everyone else (us) is participating on a peripheral level. While poetry is great, without the musicians he continually dismisses from the band none of us would be talking about him right now. In this sense Marliyn Manson to many is a case of style trumping substance, image over ability.
is it just me or does Manson look as retarded with a guitar as Madonna does? He is best when he saunters across the stage...the only exception to this is when they perform "Dried Up, Tied And Dead To The World.
@twistedpopart He sounds terrible when he plays it. Listen to the 1995.11.22 show and he's not even playing the right chords! As a bonus throughout this whole tour his guitar on this song was entirely too loud. You could barely hear the guy in the band that could actually play the instrument. I love the SG tho.
Must he cash in on all the cool music from the 80s? Can't he write his own music? He butchers this fantastic song. Gary is soooooooo much better. Listen to the version with NIN. Then listen to the original. It will blow you away.

@reznorfan15: Let's see, Sweet Dreams (Eurythmics), Tainted Love (Soft Cell), Down in the Park (Gary Numan), Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode)...shall I go on??? I'm sorry, fellow NIN fan, he did no favour to those remakes.
@kimmi307 you speak as if doing a cover somehow diminishes his creative abilities. sorry, but sweet dreams is awesome and for every remake he did i could name 10 originals. i mean, he has 7 full length albums under his belt all of which are cover-less.
@reznorfan15 No, I dislike what he did to the original songs. I do not like his version of "Sweet Dreams". It lost all the ethereal, dream-like qualities and turned it into a nightmarish mish-mash of screaming and thrash. It doesn't take talent to destroy a song. I have never been an MM fan. If he has any musical talent, I have not heard it and I have listened. From what I have seen, he is all about the the shock and the make-up and the grossness of his music. Maybe that works for kids, IDK.

@kimmi307 - Manson has some good songs that -aren't- covers, but it mostly depends on what you want. Personally I like his songs like Coma White, Coma Black, Speed of Pain, Dis-associative, The Death Song, Fight Song, Valentines Day, Target Audience, Dope Show, Don't Like The Drugs, Lamb of God, Born Again, Last Day On Earth, Disposable Teens. Back when he was "that cool dark goth dude who hates religion" and not "the old emo drug addict who can't write anything that isn't about an ex wife."
Also... "From what I have seen, he is all about the the shock and the make-up and the grossness of his music. Maybe that works for kids, IDK." By 'kids' did you mean ppl who were young in 94-2000 when Manson was actually still relevent, or did you mean kids -these days?- Cuz I think most of them are too busy buying up My Chemical Romance albums, or maybe they really liked Eat Me Drink Me, and High End of Low, which would not surprise me since it's right up their alley. =p
@reznorfan15, you sure told him. And by the way all this gig footage you got from old Manson and NIN shows, are they all concerts you attended and filmed? Great collection.
@kimmi307 dude what's your point? So many artists do covers. Some good some bad. Manson has written dozens of original songs compared to playing covers. "Must he cash in on all the cool music from the 80s? Can't he write his own music? "...come on man, you must see how misguided and ridiculous that is!?
@kimmi307 and how many has he written himself? fuckin dumbass.... go learn your shit.. almost EVERYONE has done a cover of something, and either made it better or worse... Metallica, Korn, A7X, Limp Bizkit... shall I go on? Manson is just a target, yet he's one of the GREATEST music writers/performers of the 90's
@OZZIEJUGGALO--It doesn't surprise me that you resorted to name-calling to justify your opinion. I don't think MM fans are "fuckin dumbasses". I am not a fan of his music and I don't like his covers, that's all. Yes, a lot of bands do covers, some successfully, most not; I agree. In your opinion, he's one of the greatest writer/performers of his time. I find his "talent" lacking and that's also just an opinion. As for "knowing my shit"? Thanks so much for your suggestion. I do.
@kimmi307 I think he did to Sweet Dreams. He does his own music, unfortunately only the covers are the ones to get the mainstream attention because his own stuff is too sensitive for the mass majority.
@kimmi307 Marilyn didn't adapt Sweet Dreams, Daisy Berkowitz did. Marilyn just sang on it. Daisy AKA Scott Putesky talked about it recently during an interview on The Static Hour over on Blogtalkradio. imo Down in the Park, Sweet Dreams, I Put A Spell on You, People Who Died, and Rock and Roll Nigger are all good but I like Wrapped In Plastic the best.
This is cool because you never get to see Manson playing the guitar. He really doesn't give a crap now he'll just play some crappy riff that really sucks then the crowd is like "you rock Manson!".
@LakeShaman You can find it when you go to Daisy's Wikipedia page. I know that others claim there is a Wiki page giving Manson credit; I guess that shows that Wikipedia isn't the best source. If anyone really doubts that Daisy was the brainchild of the band all they have to do is reference the court case. The reason Daisy still gets royalties from the band is because the court determined and Manson conceded the truth that Daisy came up with the idea, wrote most of the lyrics & music originally
@handofsutekh You're right, I stand corrected. I haven't followed anything Manson related since the nineties, I just remember there being some buzz in the media for the period of time that Twiggy and Marilyn were at odds that speculated Twiggy may sue. He in fact did not.
I miss the days with Daisy and the sound from the first few albums, especially "Portrait of an American Family". It seems like I remember reading that Daisy was getting a little freaked out by the new persona that Manson was leaning towards and all the kids that were being influenced to maybe taking the schtick a little too far. I mean, in the beginning it was weird kids with lunchboxes and chok'lit cows, and then it seemed like Manson got real serious about the power he had over his followers.
Daisy is really cool! Spoke with him many times and if you message him he'll write back to ya. The years when he was involved in MM were some of the bands best! And the era in which I got into the band..No one in MM history could play/write like Mr. Berkowitz!!
The only good years for Marilyn Manson were when Daisy was the creative brainchild of the group. I miss those days; I saw them at least 20 times between 1994 and 1996.
@goodoledad Antichrist Superstar was the only good album and he had a few good songs on prior albums and holy wood but, the rest was dog shit. He is terrible now and his covers are awful he destroys great songs hope he never covers fad gadget.
@JennRighter 100% true, Saw them a bunch of times in 95/96, The Limelite in NYC was one of the best shows i have ever seen. After Daisy it was all down hill.
@Prongful You must not be able to read. All of my comments talk about him sucking. Again, I refer to the person who created the group, Daisy, and the original album that he wrote as good. Not the person Marilyn Manson. I liked them at that time, 1993 to early 1996. I was 13-16 years old. Go look at my Youtube channel if you want to know my interest in music. Speaking of wasting time, that is what I just did by reading and replying to your comment.
@JennRighter you cant fairly say daisy created the group when he was a co-creator. despite what you may think brian wrote most of the spooky kids songs with daisy and im sure thats why it was easy for him to sign the rights over to daisy for those songs. either way, they were partners but manson ultimately was the smarter and more creative of the two and it's obvious by the work he continues to produce to this day. i do miss the 94-95 line up though :(
trolls seem to spread like herpes these days. personally, i do like mansons cover better than numans. but wtf, they are both great artists. haha, fuel for the fire though, the foo fighters also covered this song.

@kimmi307 IS That why GARY NUMAN him self was ON MARILYN'S JOCK during this time?
true NIN & GARY are a TON better but MM is fucking wicked. i do understand if you dont like him.

Not as good as the original. Gary Newman has him on this one

This is cool because you never get to see Manson playing the guitar. He really doesn't give a crap now he'll just play some crappy riff that really sucks then the crowd is like "you rock Manson!".

The murder of a classic.... Oh dear!

OMG Manson with a guitar! that is something you don't se everyday!!!

What an amazing cover!
And who cares if Daisy was the brainchild or not, he's not in the band anymore so get over it?
borman08 1 year ago
manson cannot fucking play guitar lol
wifebeater79 1 year ago
@wifebeater79 he was doing the weird distortion effects and stuff on purpose, dumbshit.
mansonX15 1 year ago
@LakeShaman You can find it when you go to Daisy's Wikipedia page. I know that others claim there is a Wiki page giving Manson credit; I guess that shows that Wikipedia isn't the best source. If anyone really doubts that Daisy was the brainchild of the band all they have to do is reference the court case. The reason Daisy still gets royalties from the band is because the court determined and Manson conceded the truth that Daisy came up with the idea, wrote most of the lyrics & music originally

Sued by 3 band members? I know about Daisy and Pogo. Who is the third?
Justin1040 1 year ago
@Justin1040 The third was Twiggy.
JennRighter 1 year ago
@JennRighter twiggy didn't sue him
handofsutekh 1 year ago
@handofsutekh You're right, I stand corrected. I haven't followed anything Manson related since the nineties, I just remember there being some buzz in the media for the period of time that Twiggy and Marilyn were at odds that speculated Twiggy may sue. He in fact did not.
JennRighter 1 year ago
@JennRighter Aye Twiggy left for 7 years, but he's back now

Manson don't need anybody but himself. He can be a one man band and still be bad ass!!

someone should make a biographical movie about him.

Berkowitz!!
dgenerated 1 year ago 2
@dgenerated yeah berkowitz he was the best
but MM gets all teh credit as if he is a one man band and he treats his best members like temporary replacables
and people wander why he was so much more better back in the day

interesting version but the original by Gary Numan is a classic.

Jiveturkey68 1 year ago
@goodoledad Agreed! All masterminded and written by Daisy Berkowitz, the original guitarist of the band.

@JennRighter 100% true, Saw them a bunch of times in 95/96, The Limelite in NYC was one of the best shows i have ever seen. After Daisy it was all down hill.

@JennRighter My god have you wasted alot of time in your life to shitty nerdy gimmick music. You must be an idiot. His music sucks
Prongful 1 year ago
@Prongful You must not be able to read. All of my comments talk about him sucking. Again, I refer to the person who created the group, Daisy, and the original album that he wrote as good. Not the person Marilyn Manson. I liked them at that time, 1993 to early 1996. I was 13-16 years old. Go look at my Youtube channel if you want to know my interest in music. Speaking of wasting time, that is what I just did by reading and replying to your comment.
JennRighter 1 year ago
@JennRighter you cant fairly say daisy created the group when he was a co-creator. despite what you may think brian wrote most of the spooky kids songs with daisy and im sure thats why it was easy for him to sign the rights over to daisy for those songs. either way, they were partners but manson ultimately was the smarter and more creative of the two and it's obvious by the work he continues to produce to this day. i do miss the 94-95 line up though :(
