@TheDonotron39 Luigi has his own Star count. When you begin Luigi's quest, you begin with 0 Stars.

@TheDonotron39 What do you not get? Luigi's Star counter is independent of Mario's. When you unlock Luigi, he has a second quest--you start from Gateway Galaxy's "Grand Star Rescue" and play through the game a second time.

Of course you can. Sometimes, gravity is in only one direction, like the "!" blocks toward the end of this mission. Some galaxies, like the Sea Slide Galaxy, have only one direction of gravity throughout the whole place. And there are black holes (those sinister-looking black circles you sometimes see), which suck Mario in if you get too close, much like a bottomless pit.

As for switching between Mario and Luigi, you do that at the file select screen. Luigi has a different Star counter than Mario, however. It's more like a "second quest" than a new character.
