The horns are absolutely epic on this version. They were pushed back so far in the mix in the studio version when this mix here clearly display the power of the horn section. I get chills every time they play. This version is AWESOME!
sorry gotta disagree, who ever was doing sound on Letterman did a terrible job on her vocals, it sounds like she is singing through a megaphone, like the guy put really bad plate reverb on them and turned up the highs, no go. Jools Holland was perfect live recording.
@vanray8022 Its some kind of high pass filter.....and from what I've gathered from interviews and such, the sound is intentional. Takes some getting used to, but its just how she likes the tone on her voice, a touch of modulation. I wouldn't blame the sound engineer.
I heard this band in Dallas last month. Great gig but no trombones or saxophone. I understand the practical reasons for not taking them but they were so missed. Agree with the first commenter, best version on the web my a long way.
unbelievable....I cannot get enough of this performamce. Every moment is magical...such detail to every note...feels like she cannot speak...b/c singing is even more natural...love it!
Her performance of this song on Live on Letterman on 10.04.11 was THE best out of the bunch ... better than the one on Jimmy Kimmel, better than the one on Jools Holland, even better than the studio version in my opinion. For some reason everything sounded incredibly great ... her voice, her guitar, her backup singers, and the band. It was the most powerful of the performances of that song to date that I've heard. Did anyone else get the same feeling? Leslie ... if you read this, you nailed it!
@IAintOverYet@deadnightshinobi i agree... Its up one step from the album version....AM to Bbm but its a much heavier sound. makes it sound awesome! Anyone order a Brass Section lol!
@WithDoubleBass totally! sounds like she's singing into a megaphone in a strange way, that really works for the song. digging these feist blues man...
I think it is in a different key, creates some lovely tension between her and the backup singers at the start. Great live energy, I've just been listening to this non-stop for the last half an hour or so...
I swear this in a different key to the studio version!?? Gives it more lift and makes it less subdued than the studio version - I like both though - the power of this version, and the subtlety of the studio version.
@3:22-3:23 thought the screen froze. Spooky.
