Man, oh man......years ago, travelling on Amtrak, going to New York, listening to this song on my walkman, and seeing the ghettos while travellling towards Grand Central Station, WOW, this song HIT ME HARD as to the reality of the words that so lyrically flow in this more than AWESOME song.......LOVE IT!!!!!!!
yeah i agree... this tune is tops! i remember watchin the film 'clockers' and was wonderin what that sick tune in the background durin the drugsearch was called
One of my favorites from my boy Philip Bailey, who did some solo work before rejoining the legendary group Earth Wind & Fire. Great song with a message.
The legendary Philip Bailey is one of the greatest things to happen to music. With so many greats before and after him, Philip Bailey is one of the rare artists that the statement, "The are the epitome of musicianship" can actually be applied to, but taken seriously without the slightest inclination of dismissal. And with Bailey singin treasured consciousness like this... who can really argue with my previous statement???
i don't think it is relevant how people got here really. i came here because when i heard this track when the film came out, it struck me in a way that no other song has ever done. it is easily one of the best pieces of music i have ever heard. i think we all know that this wasn't created for the movie, but we came for this piece instead of other possible garbage that is poisoning kids.
Jesus, I saw Phillip Bailey perform with Earth Wind and Fire back in 2008 in Anaheim, Ca...I can surely tell you that this guy can stay wail like a mother, This dude has a ability to stretch his voice back and forth like an accordion due to him having a 8 octave singing range, quite simply he tore the roof off that night singing some fresh and funky EWF songs, this is one of the smoothest 70s songs
Local, county, state and federal gov-ment created ghettos to keep a lower class lower. Hell somebody's got to be poor so someone can be rich. Ya think i'm wrong...with all the food in the world why some of us are starving to death! Listen to Bob Marley... he was right all along. God said some eyes will not be open....I wonder if HE ment you too.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
@TheSaleking ..Boyz n da hood...personally rated as one of the best films of all times...thank you for bringing back the good memories the film made me feel...it was filled with violence and misery, but it really hit home...i watched the film and cried like a baby after the young man who had his whole life ahead of him was shot towards the end of the film..it could easily have been one of my two brothers..thank you..
@goddessesoflove1 As sad as it may be that it's a reality for many of us that have a chance to make it out not only for African Americans but also us Latinos.
God knows whats going on with the children, for he knows how we got here to this point.I believe he knows we are this way because of being enslaved, deprived, and brainwashed to be so ignorant that we hate on eachother.Todays youth seems to don't respect the struggles before them, since they didn't have to endore the hardship Yet they demand respect, even from grown folks whom been through the fire.(So disrespectful)However,Ghettos isn't about race but about how a race of people are being treated.
@Bkmufucca Yea dis went gud with da movie ''clockers'' showing dem walking selling dope, the life of the project's. I luv where I'm from but i wanna get OUT da projects.
@TheRealestFemale100 are you from there? I respect you! The projects are no joke. Keep your head up my friend. I can't say a whole lot on the subject, as I'm not from there, but have been there to buy dope, when I was a junkie. But I respect what those who do live there go through.
@jmoon219 Yes I am from the projects also know as ''ghetto and hood''.
I live in the ghetto part of Los Angeles CA,called ''South Central L.A.''.
Thanks, because it's not so easy and besides i stay away from all of the drug selling and other negative things in the streets by hanging out with the right peoples and staying nights at home sometimes on the internet it really keeps me from running the streets. I'm so glad the internet is affordable for us here, it's only 60$ a month so that's good.
@TheRealestFemale100 Yeah, it's really something. I used to be afraid of the projects. Then, I became a junkie in my 30's and then I had no problem cruising into the projects, to buy! I recently got clean. I feel awful because I feel like I used the projects because I felt like neither of us would "talk". I could get high and they could keep selling. Nobody won.
Phillip sounds good! I think the music just sits there with very little spirit! The background vocals were good but not used enough! Overall, the song is has potential but at the momentit is severely under developed!
For some reason I was ignorant of this song before I heard it in a play a week or so ago. I have been enthralled ever since. PB's interpretation is by far the best I've heard so far. The arrangement is absolutely spellbinding. And his falsetto...wow! It's interesting to hear it outside the context of EWF, as ever. The man's a beast. He challenges even us soprano singers. I can't believe this was produced by Phil Collins! I've always had time for him anyway.
I heard Trevor Nelson playing this on BBC Radio 2 some weeks back, I was mesmerized. It's always good to look at what came before as there's a lot of quality that many younger people haven't heard.
